Apocalypse (WOD werewolf) would have made the better action MMO with built in grouping and a common enemy... it is unfortunate the things that could have been. Thanks for nothing CCP.
But these guys I wish the best of luck... I am still sure CCP will try to sue, because for some reason they think they own "vampires" in every shape and form. I heard they were looking to dig Brahm Stoker up and drag him to court for writing Dracula.
Also... I do not like the name... I get that it is (Russian ?), but all English speakers are going to associate it with is the mat you put down to catch puppy piddles.

The name grows on you. It looks like they mentioned it's pronounced Dogma in English. And associated the spelling of the brand the same way to how products such as Pepsi, Xbox, Levi's, etc when they're being made and shipped to other countries, the brand doesn't change. Also, World of Warcraft is sold worldwide in every country and the name is always in English. Same difference here.
What bothers me about all games in general is the ideas are just ideas on paper but never much effort put into those ideas inside the game.
Example the whole idea of Vampires. How much effort goes into them actually playing like a Vampire? Are they just simple models with fangs and the typical dark haired look of a Vampire?
What kind of mechanics go into their combat, are they as tough to kill or in case of You the player Vampire,is your ability to fight off injury and death as a Vampire should be or just plays like any other character in a game?
I ask all this because my gut feeling is this will be nothing more than dark alleys, black haired characters with fangs but everything else plays like a normal game of any kind.
My final point is more on the title. What WOD could have been?No doubt in my mind what so ever,CCP imo is a second rate developer not capable of a triple A game quality.Point being these guys could not possibly do any worse.
ESO vampires were well done, they still had to get around to fixing the passives but they were a very playable race with a nice quest to obtain vampirism. The problem came in pvp when combined with other classes allowed vampires to take on entire groups and win. So rather then nerf those combinations in pvp they just nerfed everything across the board, pvp and pve. Now you can use them in some ways with the champion system as you can buff some nerfs, but not as much fun in pve as they use to be.
Skyrim vampires are currently the best, as you can have what-ever you want with mods. Day-walkers, hybrids, multi shape-shifters, vampire lords, it's all there.
There's one mmo that has vampires that carry a cross on their backs which goes against all kinds of lore. Oh, well. That's the only one I know of that has them as a class.

I'm a little concerned about the lack of any experienced developers, but I'm very excited about the potential of the project. This is a VERY underutilized genre.
Maybe that is a good thing, the MMO industry has gotten stale since the release of WoW with a lot of new games trying to copy its format. (Wildstar, SWTOR, SWG and many more).
They will have to be careful though because CCP will be watching them like hawks. Just a shame CCP can't seem to finish projects themselves.
I'm all for a different game, we certainly need some different genres, but, Vampire lore is...lame. Maybe CCP realised how fast people would grow bored of blood sucking parasites.
Kudos for the efforts though.
Really depends on what type of "vampire lore" you're talking about.
For example in the Necroscope book series vampires were actually from another world which was only accessible via 2 portals on our world. 1 (which has bee around for centuries) located deep underground in Romania and the other and the other created much more recently by meltdown at a nuclear research facility in Chernobyl.
In this alternate world (referred to as Sunside Starside) night and day occur in much longer cycles and is filled with a nomadic gypsy like people. The reason thy have never advanced beyond that and settled down into large cities is because the vampires, who pretty much dominate this world, are constantly hunting them and they need to stay on the move to try to hide.
The vampires themselves are made up of a large number of vampire lords who rule over their own separate massive towers, with hordes of lesser vampires (as well as lieutenants) serving under them. The towers are largely organic and made up of and powered by flesh creatures which they have engineered to serve different purposes. They also manufacture flying creatures which resemble giant manta rays to ride around the world on, and various other creatures of war that they have created.
Each lord has their own unique powers / specialties (aside from some of what we have come to know as standard vampire abilities).
The lords, in between raiding the humans, are also perpetually at war with eachother for the most part. There are some alliances, but for the most part they are constantly bickering and attacking eachother.
Lots more aside from that including of course werewolves as well as secret government branches in our world which utilize "ESPers" (people with various psychic abilities mind control, precognition, communicating with the dead, teleportation, etc ) to fight the supernatural in our world as well as begin making expeditions into Sunside / Starside, and constantly battle eachother. The main players in our world are E-branch (Englands ESPer faction of the goverment) and the KGB. Think of it as something along the lines of James Bond meets X-men.
Anyway.... short summary of some of the series, but there is so much more. Just using it as an example of "vampire" lore that isn't Dracula-ish, Twilight-ish, or some boring crap in between. Personally I would LOVE to see someone make an MMO out of the Necroscope series with all the different factions and archetypes. If they were to make a game which revolved around vampires, an was based on the type of stuff used in the Necroscope series, that would be awesome to me.
Vampires with unique abilities and their various creatures of war vs humans with psychic powers and modern technology as well as the Sunside / Starside gypsies and our own military & mercenary forces.
Interesting setting and approach, I'll be keeping an eye out for the KS. But. But... Wtf with the name? Dog. Mat. Please, lol. If it's pronounced dogma why make it so it reads dog-mat so naturally??
It would be cool if you can have different prey on mortals. Better yet, use a free flight in the form of a bat. Even if it was only that, it would be worth to play this game.
ESO vampires were not well done. They run around and there are 1000s of them. [mod edit] Vampires should be few in number and powerful, and have perm death. The master vampire who can turn others into a vampire should be paid gm controlled. The quests to be a vampire should change each time a new vampire makes it. It will just be garbage.......other than that.

Excuse me while I laugh. lol. I don't trust them. They can say anything they want, but I don't trust a word out of any of their mouths. They need to prove it before I will trust anything these game companies say.
MMORPG: What other projects have your team members worked on?
AiryKai: Well... we still haven't had any major game projects. For some team members this is the first experience of such activities. Others participated in the development of many small games for mobile platforms.
My first reaction was less than excited. This seems a little concerning if you're trying to make a MMO of any kind.
This is the pedigree of most people making an mmo today. If you have any prior experience in development you are put in charge of a team of fresh meat straight out of school. Eventually you will hire someone truly experienced to come in for a month and clean up the mess the kids made. Then let them go before they start demanding profit sharing and credit as lead developer. Their name will never appear in the credits.
Pardon any spelling errors
Konfess your cyns and some maybe forgiven Boy: Why can't I talk to Him? Mom: We don't talk to Priests. As if it could exist, without being payed for. F2P means you get what you paid for. Pay nothing, get nothing. Even telemarketers wouldn't think that. It costs money to play. Therefore P2W.

Great description @kaiser3282. But book IP is just as protected as software IP. I am really impressed at how fast some of these IP holders are at swooping in putting the kibosh on any infringement upon their IP. Little known fact, both DC & Marvel own the phrase "superhero". You can't call something a "superhero" game or movie without their permission.

The only popular games I know of with vampires are the Elder Scroll series. Have I missed some others?
The Secret World, Vampire The Masquerade and VTM bloodlines, Baldurs Gate 2, The Witcher, The Witcher 3, Van Helsing, Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, Neverwinter the MMO. Age of Wonders 3, Skyrim, Shadowrun.
And thats just off the top of my head.
Every game during development could have been..... or was gonna be something but never was.
Yeah, so it will have Vampires.......I know a few games that have Elves too. Doesn't mean they will ever be what some other game with Elves could have been. If that even means anything.

It means wild card. Imagine how great a game "could be" and that is what it could be. Warning: Not all imaginations are the same, your imagined "could be" can vary from other people's "could be". Results will not match what you imagine it "could be" unless you imagined it might not release. Some people imagining what this game "could be" may experience frustration or disappointment if the game is released. If these feelings last more than a day, consult a doctor.

the game mechanics that define the MMORPG genre, then why are you
playing an MMORPG?"
You really don't know what anything is going to be like till it's released, and playable. Wildstar was supposed to be what WoW should have been, Archeage is what every game should have been ect. These hype posts don't do anything to help the game. Especially if you don't know what the features, pay system, and play-ability will be. It could turn out to have any number of undesirable traits. Only prepay for games, and companies you truly believe in, and don't expect other people to enjoy what you do. Don't be mad when other people don't enjoy the game, that you thought was going to be the next big thing; in turn don't hate that game just because you prepaid and others don't enjoy it. All that counts is that, YOU enjoy it.

it's not nearly as worn out as zombies!
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
Don't get me started on Zombies!!!!
