This will ruffle some feathers. The staff at MMORPG.com, from President Craig McGregor and CTO Ben Krueger, to our wonderful list of reviewers, columnists, and community managers, all the way down to your humble and lowly Managing Editor (me) have voted. We took the top player-rated games from our Game List, including those that have been closed after launch, and we ranked them. Each of us filing up our own top 35 list from greatest to least great.

    A little surprised to see Vanguard this low in the list. I know it had issues and bugs, but during it's time it was one of the most innovative MMO on the market.

    I'm always a bit confused, when people say that games like Path of Exile are MMOs. I mean, MMO = massive multiplayer online. In Path of Exile, you are either alone or in a small group. You never share a world with masses of other people at the same time. If you consider Path of Exile as MMO, then so is Chess.

    please don't tell me WOW is no.1 cause its an average game that is overpriced with their dumb subscription model!

    The game very much resolve around massive amount of players because of trading and drop rates.

    Jesus christ, that game launched the single largest MMO to date. While the modern version now is a horrific cluster-fuck of half finished ideas and poor planning, Vanilla, BC and even stretching to say LK had some of the best gameplay for their time. I would rather shocked if it wasnt in the top 3 for all time.

    How is Planetside 2 higher than Planetside 1? PS2 is utter garbage, it lacks the depth, strategy and progression. PS2 is 24/7 domination with no strategy required just zergs and more numbers winning. The Cert system is garbage since everyone can do everything all the time rather than having specialist roles to fill adding depth to the game.

    All these people complaining about subscription fees. Really you would rather there be no cost for gold farmers.

    Looks, good. Will disagree depending on what the rest of the list consists of. But purely for the ones listed, I think they are in order.

    Shadowbane should be MUCH higher up. You get points for having it on the list but...behind Wizards 101 and AOC??? C'mon man.....that's a little...well...just delusional. Oh no *gasp*...are you off your meds again??! I'm sorry..... \m/\m/ Shadowbane introduced many people to wonderful and innovative ideas that are JUST NOW beginning to come to fruition in MMO game play. Hell, some of them still just cannot seem to be properly implemented. Having unconventional races, siege warfare and the now ubiquitous "sandbox" in a persistent, non instanced, open world PvP server is STILL a VERY VERY tough rode to hoe. Some might even call it an IMPOSSIBLE task in fact. I say impossible because it has YET to be done flawlessly or even NEAR flawlessly. Too many small details. Too many variables. Shadowbane was my first (and STILL most enjoyable) foray into the bottomless pit of MMO games we so love to hate. Perhaps this nostalgia ridden place in my heart has me wearing rose colored lenses concerning Shadowbane's flaws (there were many) but it still deserves kinder treatment. You have made arrangements for a hide out to stay in for a few years when you place WoW on this list, right?? :) Nothing to fear from me but....the people may just rise up over THAT particular line item when/if it appears....God won't even be able to save you if it steps into the light in the coveted #1 spot.... Might want to give that one a LOT of thought. Just friendly advice :) All joking aside, great job...I can't wait to see the next pass....I think..... HURRY THE HELL UP ***CROWFALL*** WE'RE DYING HERE!!! Wizard's 101.....*sigh*...what's next? Pirate's 101? ......*GASP* \m/ Uncle Topher \m/

    I remember myself and three guilds farming the 1.5 mil gold to buy our tree of life 3 days after shadowbane released. Then I remember a week later carnage server having like 50 guild cities from dupers and no rollbacks. I then remember getting logging out to sleep one night and half our protected buildings being destroyed by cheaters. I'd not even put shadowbane on the list because Wolfpack was about as dumb as devs can be for fixing things and balancing out their game

    My all time favorites were Vindictus, The Secret World, and Age of Conan. The only problem is, because of my crappy computer and internet connection I can hardly run any of them...

    It won't be overlooked, but it's not "officially released" so it's not included. But fear not, we plan to revisit this ranking every couple of years.

    A bug with Vanilla because of having two separate sites for mobile and regular browsing. Won't be an issue with the new site.

    Yeah I think of all of them PS2 and PoE didn't belong....I had no problem with Vanguard where it was....IT was great in theory, poor in execution.
