Returning to SWTOR with my kid and trying to work out subs/F2P

Hey All,

I used to subscribe and play SWTOR. I recently started a new duo with my kid, with him playing from a F2P account and me playing F2P but with the subscriber benefits (like earlier sprint, pilot licence, cargo hold, mailbox access etc).

Problem is that this is making it a bit difficult to play together as a duo to some degree. For example, when I get my Longspur Stap at level 15, he'll have to wait until level 25... which means we have to run everywhere super slowly. It would also be really useful if we could trade/mail each other items for companions to equip and stuff.

What's the best way to get his account up to about the same benefits as mine, so that we can play better together? Can I buy him access to certain rights in the store somehow? Or if he were subbed for a period would he then get access to the same stuff as me?

Or is the only way to get us up to about the same speed to actually sub for us both... which I'm really not that willing to do.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

It's been quite a while since I played but if I recall correctly a 5 dollar purchase of currency was all it took to change from f2p to prefered status.
I may not be remembering correctly though.

Oh and to add. After you buy the 5 dollars worth of currency you can spend it on a minor thing or 2 to help as well.

I would say, buy a months sub, use your refer a friend link on your kids account after (adding an extra week on and giving you 600 coins), then when the sub runs out have them use the preferred friends bundle they get on each char.

WIth the coins from the sub, unlock stuff like cargo bay access, improved speeder piloting 1 and so on.

The only way to enjoy SWToR is subscription, there is no way around that. Only subscribers can learn Riding skills early. Or you could send credits to your son's character so that he can buy legacy character riding skill unlock, if you go for credits option note that free players can only keep up to 200000 credits, rest get locked.

This is the best advice you could get.  Preferred is very playable don't listen to Jest who says otherwise.

For new accounts theres cheap "starter" pack which gives 30 days sub for around 5$. Can be found on net or in retail.

    Like this:

    http://www.kinguin.net/category/117/star-wars-the-old-republic-ea-origin-key-30-days-included/

Or if youre in NA, there is great amazon bundle that gives 90 days of sub+SoR+ccs for 40$:

    http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Old-Republic-PC/dp/B001CWXAP2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1443597869&sr=1-1&keywords=star+wars+the+old+republic

This can be applied once/account. If you plan to play for a while (3 months at lesast) this is best option imo.

But just to mention that for same leveling speed you will both either have to be subbed or not since non sub get lower xp.
