LFD tools are great for cramming people into content, but quality > quantity.
I am, usually on the sandbox .. more "hardcore" side of things, but I also do just want to have fun. So lighten up already

It's most certainly not lazy. Would you have said that about the numerous Asian dime-a-dozen quest grinders out there, then I would agree. The amount of time it took Carbine to make WildStar, as well as them taking the time to completely revamp the entire game for the F2P switch is the complete opposite of lazy.
As far as badly designed I suppose that's subjective. I think it's just fine, aside from perhaps the combat, which is still a bit too "over-the-top" for me, but it's been a nice change of pace when I get burned out on my other main MMOs.
Honestly, they had the wrong attitude from day one, and being an arsehole is fine if you are a success, but you look like a prize tool when you are not.
If when an expansion comes I might jump in on this...but right now. I don't know.

I love my dogs more than any man should
Unfortunately 1st impressions stick.
EDIT the new malarchy buggered up. The post I responded to inexplicably stops where the poster said "I love my dogs more than any man should".

Personally I would love a good reason to try wildstar again. I seem to have had different issues than most when I was put off from the game. From the get go so much of it just did not feel good. I wasn't a huge fan of combat (it was passable but slightly off-putting), the questing was dryer for me than a desert (I questioned if I was just spoiled by other modern mmos voiced quests but time has shown that to not be the case, I just didn't like how it was done), and the insane spam of quests and misc junk activities at you completely drained me so badly that I lost all ability to log back in (I think they really needed to pace that better and not just spam you with bland unimportant stuff by the truck load).
It was really a bizarre experience, never had something sucked all the fun out of play for me like that in the 13 or so years I have been playing MMORPGs.
Sadly I think this is one of the aspects of the game that probably was not altered. I really like a lot of the features the game offers but that is/was a barrier that is too significant to get past.
