3 days on and its still unplayable , ive had my share of bad launches but nothing like this.
with every patch they make things worst if you get past one hurdle another one pops up /facepalm

its got to the point where i find it hilarious now and sad at the same time as no doubt this will lose carbine alot of potential players
too bad really they should have better prepared its not like the game wasnt released already 2 years ago..
i wonder if  its something more sinister like an hardware fault on their end.

i think this is a contender for the worst launch in past decade and its still ungoing so it could get much worst before it gets better lol ...so sad :9

  • rush1984rush1984 Member UncommonPosts: 371

It's on par with WoD so far. Nothing new and to be expected.

Kinda sad my sub is burning while I can't play, but I'm giving them till Monday before I complain.

    The locusts, though, seem angry.

    I'm a MUDder. I play MUDs.

    Current: Dragonrealms

First MMO ever? The wildstar launch went very smoothly truth be told.

If you want a new idea, go read an old book.

In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

You're right, this launch is even worse than the official launch one year ago.
Well I guess not everybody can be FFXIV

You obviously didn't play Vangaurd on launch

Well it's not even a launch it is just a change of business model, but clearly they did absolutely nothing to prepare for it. They know most of the people who start playing are only trying it because it is free. They didn't want to invest in new hardware after they just downsized from what they had last year. Obviously they are not all that confident that going F2P is going to really bring that many players who will actually stick around and support the game. Ncsoft will eventually just shut the game down if it doesn't do well enough. They are probably more focused on the blade and soul release than a dead game like wildstar.

With all due respect, I think it's time to lay the AO debacle to rest in these discussions, it was during the infancy of MMORPGs (new tech/ideas, different expectations) and it was funcom, not exactly the same thing as a company as resourceful as Ncsoft/Carbine. Not to say anything about the WS launch as I haven't experienced it. But AO was a very different situation.

I'm not sure you remember FFXIV's re-launch very well... There was nearly a week where you could not play on an NA server due to the queues. The devs had failed to put in an AFK timer, so people would just leave their character on all day. Pretty sure Square gave everyone a free week of subscription because of it.

There isn't a company who'd have the competence to release their online game which wouldn't have issues, greater or lesser, for a certain period of time. These things are really complex to setup and run but this is no excuse for what's happening. Of course proper testing is required however no amount of it will catch and account for all deadly scenarios where when they happen bring the entire system down for most if not all players.

I don't know how many people remember WoW at release and their looting problem under heavy load where you character got locked down in looting animation. Blizzard took almost half a year and needed to hire DB admins to help them setup their backend properly. So what did that taught them? When they release Diablo 3 so many years later remember famous error?

Do not expect these products can just be rolled out in their flawless state no matter what we think or want.

When someone claims something is the worst "Ever" there is nothing wrong with educating them with the truth.
Regardless of if you or others are tired of hearing it, no one has come close to beating the launch of AO, and this is coming from someone who has carried multiple year subs to AO and still views it as their favorite mmorpg of all times.

tera, ffxiv arr had really good launches i thought :S and  rift just had long queues all the games you just mentione di played on day 1, and world of warcraft people always say that was really really bad but for me it wasnt i played with hardly any problem   and the only problems i had were rubber banding, server restarts and server roll backs and queues and lag thats all i can remember but atleast i was able to play !!!

this isnt even a launch its a re-launch not many  games get a second chance to impress  like they did ... and failed

Also, this is not even remotely close to the worst launch of all time. Not. Even. Close.

Yah, Vanguard was not good either.
Seemed like every time the server tried to hand my character position off from one server to another when I crossed a zone line it was time to fall through the earth and die. Then send in a petition for help. Lord forbid you made the mistake of trying to rez cuz it just auto killed you...repeatedly every time you tried to rez. You were trapped there until a live support person answered your ticket...and that was not a short wait.

Not sure what you're talking about... I've logged in twice after work and had no problems.

While they have dropped the ball, they are not even close to Vanguard/WoW/AOC levels of launch problems.

Worst of the year, sure, but worst in history, not even close.

I get that, I really do, the point I'm making though is that AO's launch was a first try, with all new tech, a different situation.

It comes down to degree of mistakes made in the sense of worst, does it not? While AO was a catastrophe, it comes down to:
A: a much smaller scale project, not nearly as many people experienced it.
B: MMORPG devs didn't have the years of experience in delivering launches, or in this case relaunches... they do now..

That creates a different situation IMO.

Like I said earlier though.. in this case, I have no idea how bad it is.

you did't play on alot of mmos launches yet, did you?
this is a normal mmo start. actually, i have seen worse, way worse.

your precious primus for example had 30 minutes lag on day one.

it's not about the game or the netcode, it's about technology.
