Topic says it all. Let's take the spotlight away from free to play for a moment. I see different mmorpg's here and there that may not advertise on this site, and I honestly don't know much about them. I'm curious what people are paying to play.
Normally they charge you for other things like server transfers, have some other promotion items that you buy as part of other products/seperately, charge you for the boxes, have some kind of cross promotion, or do something clever as a way to get more money from you.
Even EvE has cosmetics now... The most 'sucessful' sandbox game where such a feature could have made outstanding sandbox content where they could have crossed different games within their one game(IE: requiring content from Anomoly/site/questing drops, crossing production and research, and whatever else)... Was wasted so they could lazily draw some extra cash in, in an uncreative way.

I can only think of three Sub based MMO's WOW, FFXIV and EVE all are not sub only, as they have some type of alternate pay scheme(EVE) or cashshops (WOW, FF).

I suppose you can add Everquest II TLE server, you need a sub to play that. The items on the cash shop are pretty limited too (much less than EQ2 live).
I think even Darkfall has a f2p weekend every once in awhile.

There is not any true MMORPG anymore, even EQ is Pay to Win.
That is why there are 5 million people in limbo waiting for these new games in development. Of coarse everyone is going to keep trying these free games... and may even dump a tad of cash out of boredom. But these current games have no future, because they offer nothing worth paying for.
Whoa, this hadn't occurred to me. What a change in times.

This is such a false statement. Neither EQ or EQ2 are pay to win, Please exit stage left.
There aren't 5 sub only based MMOs left in existance. Ryzom comes to mind - and it has a low population.
Ryzom has been F2P with optional sub for a years or 2 already...
And as stated above, are there even 5 MMORPGs left that are subscription only? Perhaps the coming (EU only) Lineage II Classic would be #5 to the list ;-)
There is not any true MMORPG anymore, even EQ is Pay to Win.
EQ isn't pay to win, not even close. Yes you can buy a character to lvl 85, but from lvl 85 newbee to respectable raid guild, will not be easy if no one knows who you are. It's more about contacts, playtime and your name than your gear or AA.
It's not a game like other MMO where you can just leech from an open raid, there's no freebies. If no one know who you are, you won't get into a guild and won't raid, you can have the best gear on the server, no one will let you join if you're an unknown.
It has always been about that, gear has always been a bit irrelevant in EQ, it's important within the gameplay context of the game, but having lots of gear when no one knows who you are, won't get you far. You can get anyone gear, but you can't get someone playtime or intelligence.
We'll take any newbee willing to learn, with 0 gear who can play 4 hours 6 days / week ..over someone who is geared but is stubborn and doesn't log in every night. Gear is irrelevant in the long run.

At least 2 i would love to keep playing, one is Eve Online the other is FFXVI, but since the dollar on my country os 4x the price it would be normaly then im out of sub games.

wait ... buying a higher toon is not p2w? Good to know. Then i guess xp potion and anything that accelerates leveling is not either (nothing is faster than just buying the levels though).

In other games it is P2W, but not in EQ. You can be lvl 105 and have all the best gear in the game, if no one knows who "Narius" is, you won't get accepted into any respectable guild.
There's no "open raids" where you can just leach like in WoW, the only way to access the higher level content is to show you can play and build a name for yourself. Joining lower tier guilds, grouping, building contacts, and showing you have decent playtime and are able to log in every night, will eventually get you into higher tier guilds.

What 5M people? Do you actually have data, or just pull that out of thin air?
Yes, I have data.
Months ago, I had already made the claim that in the United States alone, there are some 5 million disgruntled MMORPG Gamers, who are sedentary and essentially idle and waiting/anticipating something substantial to sink their teeth into..
The majority of these Gamer consist of the 10 million WoW refugees that are floating around the e-sphere, looking for a quality world to regroup & materialize their guilds, friends & family.
I would think given your time here Narius, even your own common sense tells you I am right, right?

EQ today is pay to win. It wasn't when I played, but as of this date with Krono, it is a BUY YOUR WAY style of game.
You can put $200 USD into KRONO and come out the back end of that Pimp!
Yes, our beloved EverQuest is indeed Pay to Win, you can easily see this on the new Progression servers.
His own numbers support my metadata. None of his links or data is contrary to what I have said. Together, they support my claim. There are tons and tons of people in their 30's looking for a new game world to settle down in. And start a new Character & chapter in their lives.

Maybe my question should be: Name a MMORPG that still charges a sub. that is worth playing.
