Revival is the rebirth of the player-driven, sandbox, fantasy role-playing world. Player agency, world persistence, and absolutely zero compromises are the cornerstones of our quest for a living, persistent, dark fantasy role-playing world. Revival is much more than a game. It is, in fact, an ongoing drama where each and every player has an opportunity to enjoy a starring role. Revival is our effort to revive the promise of the virtual world, and bring back a truly open-world sandbox role-playin

I just wish one of these open world gankfest games would be an overwhelming success so all the psycho types would congregate in one game and leave the rest alone.

If only that could happen. Unfortunately those types of players only prey on the weak, its called ganking for a reason. They dont have the desire or the skill to prey on each other, which is why all those "hardcore, full loot, or permadeath" games always fail. Human nature is to take the path of least resistance. They arent looking for a fair fight and they dont want to test their skills against other like minded players, they want to sneak up on someone turning in a quest, or killing a boss, and take off back to the shadows after. Its for players who arent really that good at PVP in the first place, but want to feel like they are by ganging up on weaker underleveled and undergeared players. Or something like that.... :P

I think you are very much on a one sided rant here, sure in full loot pvp games this does happen...but the other end of the spectrum happens as well. Lets take in account Asherons Call Darktide, another MMORPG with FFA PVP in an Openworld. There were PK groups in AC and Guilds that would gang up on others, ravage towns and reak havok...Guess what happened...Anti-PK Guilds formed and some of the MOST EPIC battles ended up taking place because of it. Not everyone is bent on killing you non-stop, and if that does happen, you find like-minded players that you can group up and fight back with. This is how new friendships are made, new guilds are formed, and those dirty little scumbag PKs (me being one of them) limb back to our evil base upon a mountain and *SHAKE OUR FISTS* at you plotting our next attack... There's an interesting dynamic in full loot pvp games, because of the ruleset and risk of dying, players tend to bond quicker and stick together, hypothetically speaking - a 20 man guild comes in and always runs around together and kills everyone, well because of that 2 10 man guilds decide to form an alliance and eventually dominate the 20 man guild, there's always a counter-attack in these sort of games and it's a feeling that is lost in all other MMORPG's that really don't have the risk vs reward element. For people asking to cite sources, look at Darkfall, Asheron's Call, UO, EQ, DaoC, Shadowbane, there's a reason why we still remember specific pvp fights to this day, because it was INTENSE and down right exhilarating. /Hugs, RipX

Hope it works out, I am not a fan of open PVP full loot games for one very simple reason, the only consequences of actions only ever seem to fall on one side, there is no consequence for ganking new players only for being ganked.

But I hope it works out, variety is great in all genres including mmos. The more mmos that come along and show serving a niche is viable the more likely all of us get a game or two that we really want.

Just what the market needs, another DFO. What is DFO subscriber numbers again?
[mod edit] tons of people played darkfall and tons loved it...problem wasn't the concept, it was the terrible company behind it. I know so many people that would die for a game like this...problem is finding a good company to run it.

You do realize that just because a game failed doesn't equate to the entire concept failing... don't you?  EVE has pretty good numbers, so by extension all will be a success, no?

NOPE The act of buying should be with virtual money not real money. If the game is any good then charge a set sub fee so that you know how much money is coming in each month and how much money you need to operate and make a profit.

Having the most desirable part of a game "housing" as a real money trading idea is just WRONG.

PVP is like saying "we don't have content, your content is pvp.

If you haven't guessed i consider pvp a REAL bad idea for rpg's.No this has no chance at all of being "one helluva mmorpg" because pvp is such a bad idea.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Wiz! Love your passion and commitment to the MMORPG genre, you always speak your mind and "most" of the time I agree with your words. :P

I think I agree with you on this one in terms of housing, although it is pretty cool to own a perm piece of property in the game world, a place where you can store loot and customize etc. You get an address and everything!

That all said, you should also be able to do this with in-game $$$, and hopefully we will see something on the free servers where a large sum of in-game money could be used to purchase a plot...

Exactly.  EVE is a great game.  EVE has safe zones.  This game video said ZERO safe zones.  That is just unrealistic and even CCP knows this.  At least in EVE in 1.0 space if I get ganked, the person ganking me is going down in flames as well.
If you can get blown up it's not a safe zone, ironically, outside of pipes high sec is technically the most unsafe zone if you wish to carry around any kind of valuables

DFO has more in safe zones that EVE does.

    Waiting for:
    The Repopulation
    Albion Online

I always giggle a bit when I hear people complaining about 'gankers' and their hatred for PvP. I suppose there's nothing wrong with that, as they have about a million PvE games to choose from. Yet, when a PvP game comes out - they show up in droves to complain. This is probably why we enjoy ganking you so much.

But let's be honest. PvP at its core is about challenging another player to see who is more skilled. Football, baseball, soccer (futball!), volleyball, chess, and checkers are all PvP games. Yet, I doubt we'll see you protesting them, or calling the players 'psychos' for enjoying their chosen game. You just hate these players because you had a bad experience in a game where you lost a fight, and were upset about it. This is natural. Some will push themselves to get better, to try and win their next encounter. Others will curl up in a ball and cry.

Regardless of what kind of person you are, at the end of the day we're all here to have fun. That's the point of a game. If you can't handle the PvP for whatever reason - fear not - they make games specifically for you. Otherwise, I look forward to fighting you!

Pretty much what ive been saying ripper to everyone who does this argument but u put it in words alot better than i can.
Although as Aslan said people weaker people take the path of least resistant so instead of putting in the effort of bonding together and forming an anti PK guild (Which happen alot on older games but now adays most people want everything now now now so they dont put in the effort) instead of taking on a challenge to get better and quit the game saying it shit although if they toughed it out a little better they could get reward with the bonding with people and actually getting better as a player.
Even in darkfall there was a fair mount of people watching over the lowbies and bringing them into a guild and took the time training them up to be better some people couldnt take while other flourished and had an amazing time in the game itself.
