Bugs and all.. the first phase of the original Darkfall was a blast. It was intense not just from a gameplay perspective but from a political side as well. The probably won't be able to recapture that... but we will see!

So they got the licence or not? Their website treats everything as if they got it...

Quick question... For those who had already purchased Darkfall, will they be grandfathered in? Just curious.
Same here. Creates an interesting decision for them - choose between a pre-existing playerbase/community and revenue.

Judging by the quality of their website, I'm not expecting a direction or management of the game any more effective than Aventurine's own. Anyone foolish enough to purchase the rights to the game in the state that it was left, will probably struggle to update it to something more enticing or playable than Aventurine without significant investment. Of course I'm happy to be pleasantly surprised. I had high hopes for Darkfall.

Why would AV sell the game that will be in direct competition with their own?   Never gonna happen folks.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

A big no thanks, too much hacking, one of the major reasons i NEVER want pvp in my rpgs.
At least back in the day i could just leave a server full of cheats and find a new server, can't do that in rpg's.

Also the original game had not nearly enough assets or content,to me it was pretty much just a generated map with pvp.It lacked more than assets,it also did not have deep enough systems or combat, just not a good game to rehash imo.

The ONLY game i would ever consider redoing is Vanguard,i have seen no other downed game worth redoing.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

it might be that AV is going under.  the greek economy is in shambles.  these guys are trying to make a video game in one of the poorest countries in the world.  kinda sad if they do fold.

So wait a minute... They are going to do a kickstarter campaign for a relaunch of an MMO? WTF? What do they need money for if they are making everyone buy the game again?
You've merged both games. There are apparently two reboots : Rise of Agon and New Dawn. The first will be community driven, have a kickstarter, and following that be f2p (I think). On the other hand, new dawn will be buy + subscription, but there won't be any kickstarter. Two different games by two different teams ^^

this is going on 2 months now...

2 parties getting the lisence deal.. one project will fail thats for sure..

A bonus is actually that AV killing their own crappy unholy wars game with this license deal..

finally after 2 years of absent.. the best high skill ceiling mmo is coming back

well the game was crap before and people screamed that there was noone to play with- all left. Why do they think this gona work now? tss
  • CopperfieldCopperfield Member RarePosts: 654
funny how people scream for different games.. yet never played this game.. and experienced the pvp in this game on meta level..

there were 150.000 "boxes" sold of darkfall 1.0.. so yes there is alot of potential for this game in correct hands

I would just like to make it clear that Rise of Agon (www.riseofagon.com) and New Dawn (www.darkfallnewdawn.com) are seperate projects as I have seen the two being confused with one another.

    On their page:
    • We’ll begin the design and development process for an official website to inform the public about our project and unique vision for Darkfall.

I do believe that in the right hands origional Darkfall could be an amazing game with a steady following, the concept of Darkfall has always been great for people who love these type of games, even tho Aventurine never managed to deliver what their playerbase it was the best mmo I have played, it difinetely is NOT a game for everyone to enjoy especially since the game does not hold ur hands and the skill ceiling being very high and the Darkfall 1 community including myself does not want to see that changed.

Ub3rgames' version is Darkfall: New Dawn. Big Picture Games will title their version Darkfall: Rise of Agon. At this writing, neither has managed to secure licensing, but both have reported progress in talks with current owner and developer Aventurine.

Thanks to Slapshot1188, we were have heard of a company calling itself Ub3rgames that is seeking to acquire the license to Darkfall Online, currently held by its original developer Aventurine. According to the "About Us" section, Ub3rgames, if successful in its acquisition, will relaunch the game under the name Darkfall: New Dawn.

Our approach for this project is as a group of 10 professional developers with previous experience ranging from running multiplayer games, administrating MMO servers and developing large scale high demand infrastructure for businesses. This group formed in order to acquire and rerelease Darkfall Online in today’s market.

Also working to secure licensing for Darkfall is Big Picture Games:

We can now confidently begin the major planning and development work needed to successfully relaunch Darkfall, and we plan to secure an official licensing agreement in the coming weeks. Here’s what this development means for everyone involved in this project:

    • Over the next few weeks we’ll start to finalize the staff, structure, and workflows of our internal teams.
    • We’ll begin preparations for a successful Kickstarter campaign which we plan to launch in the coming months.
    • We’ll begin the design and development process for an official website to inform the public about our project and unique vision for Darkfall.
    • We’ll also be working closely with our marketing team to begin introducing our talented team members to the public who will be a critical part of making this project a success.

Find out more about each project at the links above.

So, we are going to have three DFO competing with each other?  This is getting funnier every day.
My thoughts too... wanting to split an already small (current and/or potential) players base, in a games foundation that is meant to be huge battles.

If they truly cared for the game, these would be grouping together with one development and keep the player base as close together as possible.

As it stands these are just more 'indi devs' looking to cash in on the idea's of the past and/or crowdfunding.

Tho i don't blame them... there will certainly be people waiting to throw money at them and they know it, good for them if their able to exploit it and make some income from it (lots of others are).

The rise of agon team was founded largely from the talent within the Darkfall community, reacting to the news that Aventurine was making the game available for licensing. If you look at their forums/team, much of the staff & contributors are some of the most well known Darkfall players. It's a grass roots community take over, not a cash grab.
