BREAKING: EU/NA Version to Be 'Buy to Play', Not Subscription or F2P | Black Desert News

It seems that the hopes of thousands of European and North American fans of Black Desert have just come true with the announcement that the alpha for the westernized version of the game is going to be starting soon.

The game's official site has debuted with the promise of more to come soon and includes interesting information: BDO will be buy to play - no subscription and not F2P, with gameplay systems re-worked with that in mind

Extensive work is being done to localize the game into English, German and French

Tbh I don't mind another Archeage. Market has been so dull and Archeage did bring me several months of fun. But let's hope this one will be better.

Not like archeage at all. Everyone gets housing if they want. Crafting is different than any other game I've ever played. Trade system is fun. Action combat is super easy. SUPER EASY. Money was easy to get. Still a fun game though. (I played Korean version)

I was in the RU CBT and am now playing the F2P RU and it's a fun game...no it is not like Archaege. I truly hope they do a good job westernizing it because the RU F2P model does suck. I don't know why the Russian players tolerate so many pay gates..it's not P2W but to many things are locked out like classes etc... I am hopeful as they are going the B2P route... so far that has been a good model.

I prefer that to f2p model. Still wish they had a sub model without any sort of cash shop though.

i tried it, after some hassle with vpn and captcha, and it looks promising. I do like the change to b2p, if its similar to b2p in GW2 it will be fine.

Honestly I don't see what is so different about this compared to a f2p version. They're still going to have the cash shop. I wouldn't be surprised if they even had an "elite account" (sub) option.

Amazing! That is some very nice news indeed. If they can get the B2P system to work like it does in GW2 or ESO it should be great.

If they do this the GW1/2 way and sell expansions every year or so while keeping cash shop stuff to primarily cosmetics (I don't like the "convenience" nonsense, it's p2w of a lesser sort no matter how you twist it), then it might turn out alright and not become ArcheAge2. Although this does raise a concern that they might launh with a shell of a game, and sell the missing content as add-ons later... I currently hope they will launch with the full Korean version in terms of content.

I would still have preferred a P2P server with a guaranteed limited cash shop with only non-intrusive cosmetics (no armor and weapon 'skins' that hide the real gear, no pink ponies that break immersion, etc.), but it seems they didn't feel comfortable with splitting their service like that. Perhaps they plan on a different split; Regular servers and 'hardcore' servers?

I guess we'll see how this one does it. Just don't expect me to pay another 150 euros for a 'founders pack', Trion burned me with a life long lesson on participating in such practices.

I just hope it does not have forced PVP. I HATE PVP. Even more than forced group content. Solo all the way. And if it does not have any end content other than PVP or group only stuff, well I guess I'll continue to wait for another game that can take the crown from Vindictus in terms of combat. I never understood why so many devs just fails completely to cater to us solo players when it comes to end game content. They all seem to think leveling is the only thing we need. Ridiculous. Like adding some solo instances would be so extremely hard. And then we have the group lovers who think solo instance = zero effort. What? They can make hard solo instances that also forces you to redo them to get better gear, to get to the next solo instance, and so on. But no, everyone seems to believe the lie that playing in a group is the only way for something to be hard.

I think companies that offer B2P should promise to never offer anything but vanity items while under the B2P banner and must switch to F2P if they add anything more than vanity items in their cash shop.

Yeah you are right, dead just like GW2 and ESO.

They should make it f2p with a heavily p2w oriented cash shop and also charge a sub if you want to enjoy all the features of the game, while limiting the amount of things you can do in game (even if subbed) unless you opt to buy some consumable from the cash shop that will allow you to do more stuff.

MMORPG.....understandable that devs make accomodations for solo play, but spend little effort on long term, end game content for solo gamers.
