Paradox has confirmed that it has purchased White Wolf and all properties from CCP, developers of EVE Online. This includes both World of Darkness and Vampire: The Masquerade. While nothing has yet been said beyond the confirmation of the buyout, it is possible that this could lead to a revival of WoD and new life for the Vampire series.

Not very likely that it will lead to a MMO.

Look more to political strategy games like Crusader kings and adventure games. Maybe a CCG revival of TES for IPad and Android (mobile CCG´s are all the rage these days)

Seems like a better news than CCP screwing it up, of course i was not surprised that CCP screwed it up but this is a far better situation for WoD and Vampire The Masquerade fans.

Well to be fair CCP did do a lot for the Print on demand biz ariund the old books (as in not giving enough of a frag to argue against it)

And the MMO they had suggested was FAR beyond anything they could actually deliver. So it is for the best it remains a rosy "what if" in our minds... never to be sullied by actual reality.

Paradox?   I guess we should expect a Global Vampire Grand Strategy war game in our near future.  I wonder how they will make it an MMO?

Going to have to agree with this.

I would live for WOD (the MMO) if it was done right but we all know how it would really turn out. Only time can tell, for now the "what if" seems super rad.

Excited to see where Paradox takes this. :)

Thats CCP needing and getting some fresh money. Sounds good for the franchise too.

I just hope they don't have some idea that this would be better played on an iPhone

I will be happy with a single player RPG. Which will be much more than what CCP "delivered".

It really means almost nothing,i say almost because it tells me one thing. What has been going on already for years is businesses cashing in on known ip's,we just got through one with Goblinworks i believe was the developer.

I do not for one moment think Paradox is serious about building a game,i believe 100% they simply want to tie into the franchise and cash in on it.I am quite sure they know the background, the stories they could EASILY design their own game around it,the only difference being they couldn't use that franchise to help promote their product.

Not likely it will lead to MMO.

But CCP practically killed WOD roleplaying game , pen and paper one. They bought the rights and the team. Than they closed everything and held the rights hostage.

Paradox is house of Obsidian and what remained of Troika , i can easily see a next great rpg being released in the world of darkness

Well gong by their own words they seem to looking at some sort of PC game and at least one mobile game. A spiritual successor to the old Eternal struggle card game would be a possible idea (quick to make and with a good potential for microtransactions) Personally i would kill for a CK2 style game where the goal is to rule a region as the prince. It would be some of the best use of the IP... Because not even Bloodlines did a very good job of capturing anything but "life as a fresh child/neonate" i´d like to take on the challenge of working over centuries. Edit: Also another thing they said was that they are well aware of how particular the VtM/WoD fans are and that they will not just push something out for the sake of it.. They aim at at 2017 release for their first project as the earliest "http://digital.di.se/artikel/paradox-koper-rollspelsjatte"

Well really wasn't that really Onyx Path's doing after getting the licensing from White Wolf/CCP?

Overall I'd expect more games like Bloodlines, and that isn't a bad thing at all.

The World of Darkness MMO can be finished, and it can be profitible if done right. Make the avatars highly customizable with tons of clothing.Make politics a big part of the game, but don't skimp out on kool looking disciplines and combat. Something to think about..

If CCP wasn't going to do anything with it, then i'm glad another developer bought it. Lets just hope they make good games from it. Now we just need NCsoft to let go of the CoX franchise as they aren't doing anything with it, and we will be golden.

Help me Bioware, you're my only hope.

Is ToR going to be good? Dude it's Bioware making a freaking star wars game, all signs point to awesome. -G4tv MMo report.

I agree that they could design their own but if assets exist and are available to buy at the right price then this can a)  accelerate production of a game b) reduce risk - any costs and delays there might hjave been to develop the assets were CCPs to cope with. So it can make a lot of sense.

After 'World of Darkness Online' cancellation CCP owning rights to WoD never sat right with me. I mean it's all fine and good, but to what end? Any development of situation is better. While I am with everyone who doubt restoration of 'WoD Online' development I hope we can expect some single-player titles. You can re-play 'VtM: Bloodlines' only so many times (some people argue over that, though). Also yes, 'Paradox' has a lot of strategy games. Don't see a problem here, WoD with it's intrigue and power struggles is good base for that. And we never saw a quest based on that universe. With rich storytelling WoD has it will be great game. I'd imagine something akin to 'Gabriel Knight.
  • OlgarkOlgark Member UncommonPosts: 342
Obsidian Entertainment and Paradox have good relations with each other. So who knows we may see both a new Bloodlines game and MMO. The whole of the WoD universe has a massive amount of content and lore to it that can be adapted for computer games with everything from RTS and turn based strategy games through to mobile and single players games on the PC as well as a MMO. Why limit them to a few card games ?
