Yes I don't know when or how but Eve is offering 30 day free trials.  I'm downloading as I write this ready to give this game a good try.  If you never tried this game now is a good time to get it.  30 days is a lot better then their old 7 day trial for sure.  I wonder is the tutorial still horrible?  Will I need to look at videos to learn how to play or did they fix that?

Wow the game took like 2 minutes to download and install.  I'm going to eat thanks for the offer and yes that tutorial was horrid.

This is a perfect example of what kind of people you should be looking for in-game, OP. 


This is the kind of personal experience that got me hooked on EVE for so many years.  

It is not a rare thing to talk to someone who's willing to go out of their way just to help you learn how to play EVE.  Even if it's someone that killed you and took all your stuff, they are probably also willing to give you twice as much back in return for a good conversation or spending time playing with them or learning from them or helping them with something different.

It brought a smile to my face to see Gdemami's response.   He's willing to download the game again just to show you what's what.        It's not saying anything for the quality of Eve, or whether sandbox is better than themepark or anything like that.   It shows what kind of PEOPLE play Eve.

I am glad they are releasing a 30 day trial, as some people will finally see how far from truth it is when they read forums where people talk about Eve's "toxic community" ---  

That being said, I do have a little concern on the other end considering with an influx of free players, the toxicity has yet to come...

Oh, and regarding the new tutorial:

Anyone who hasn't played Eve before and is planning on taking this opportunity to try it out, I strongly suggest just looking for some friendly people to help you learn and not paying too much mind to the tutorial.

Literally, all the tutorial is now is something like, "Buy something from the Market"  and doesn't tell you how, because it is promoting the player to research the information themselves on the internet.

How?    I don't understand the interface.  
--- after research online and talking to players, new-player learns how to fly their ship and navigate the map.   Once he/she enters another system, the tutorial says "Completed!" but offers the player nothing.  No ISK, no loot, no skillpoints, just a confirmation.

Ok just a few pointers from brand new player.  Box on top right corner is stuff nearby and icons show what they are.  Right click to show options for items like orbit or lock target.  Click on the warp to tab on same box to give warp option when right clicking item.  After killing something you can only loot if the wreck is gray.  The yellow ones belong to someone else so you cannot loot them but you can get frustrated as hell trying.  The person who acts like your friend then challenges you to a duel get away from him he will destroy your ship then laugh at you.

Nice pointers but I have some stuff to add:

1)  You can pretty much loot anything even if it's yellow, but it will flag you as a criminal and the person that owns the wreckage or canister that was stolen from has legal right (in game legality via CONCORD) to shoot at and destroy the person who stole from them.

2)  A new player should not be looking to deal with PVP whatsoever until they feel confident and comfortable with the systems in Eve, including and not limited to things like how security works, how standings work, what cooldown timers means (very different than a normal MMORPG's cooldowns.  Has nothing to do with your abilities* but instead, is about what status you are currently i.e. aggressive, criminal, faction warfare, war dec'd, etc)    -- 

3)  Anyone who offers to duel or fight already has a plan to kill you and is 90%+ sure they are going to execute that plan.    Humoring them is the same thing as offering them your ship with a bow on top.      Everyone has an agenda, and the less you know about them or their plan, the more likely you are in the exact position they want you in.   Just take caution at all times.

Yeah, EVE client uses download-on-demand so you can hop into the game without dowloading all the assets.

You can loot yellow wrecks but the security measures are turned on by deafult, it is good to learn about aggression timers before you turn those off though.

Just to warn you, you didnt download the game. What you downloaded was a streaming installer. So if you have a really bad internet connection, you are gonna get stuck on character creation for a long time. The game is like 8 gbs, if you want it to download all of it at once you have to tell the downloader to do it.

I checked the folder size twice(deleting resource cache) and as soon as the Play button is available, the game is playable without any waits nor there is any notable increase in folder size.

Yeah, well I am not going to move to a disgusting city, filled with the trash of the world to have fast internet lol. I enjoy being able to walk outside and not see any one ever, if i didnt want to, besides that though. I have been playing online games since aol was the major internet provider, with dial up. So because i cant stream download games, internet gaming isnt for me? HAHa. Once the game is downloaded it uses almost no internet, there is no internet game i can think of, minus junk peer 2 peer hack fest games, that require a fast internet connection. With a shitty dsl 300kbs down and 40kbs up, or 3mbps down, and 440kbps up, i run 2 eve onlines with no lag what so ever. Infact atm i am downloading baulders gate 2 big world, and i still have no lag. 

So where are you getting this garbage information, about needing a fast internet connection to play online games? 

If i needed to host something, there are a trillion options available to rent a hosting computer. 

So you enjoy those drunken retards running around at 3 am, and the 24 7 sirens, crime rate through the roof, gun control that is beyond outrageous, cops, criminal, rapists, I will enjoy my woods, where it may take me 7 hours to download a game, but that is well worth avoiding that. 

I couldn't start to imagine having to wake up, and walk out side and look at millions of other people, i think i would hang up haha.

Well I forced myself to play the game and learn the basics and it has hooked me for the time being.  Interface is easy to use once you learn how and game is pretty good so far.  Will give a full report later on this game.

I see single player games being far more your style.....

Besides, the country has its issues with banjos, livestock, cabins in the woods etc.

Ok I suggest give this game a good try and you will not be disappointed.  Will you play it for 10 years?  Probably not but can definitely get a few months out of it.  Just mess around for a few days learning the basics and different ships and skills.  Then join a corporation and the game changes into something else.  Then get into pvp or crafting, ect ect... Lots of stuff to do.  Will give a good review later after I play for a few more days.
