[Black Desert] Official IP Block Statement

DragnelusDragnelus Member EpicPosts: 3,503

Dear players,

To answer your inquiry about the IP block of areas outside our territory license agreement with Pearl Abyss, we’d like to give a proper statement about this matter.

As our Terms of Service point out, our territory license agreement with the developer Pearl Abyss is limited to the following areas:

  • Europe
    • Excluding Turkey and part of Russia
  • North America
    • Canada
    • Mexico
    • United States of America

In other words we will not provide service to players outside of our territory.

Pearl Abyss hinted their interest in targeting markets such as Turkey, South America or any other region outside of our service territory via different channels. Therefore opening those markets to Daum Games Europe, means a conflict of interest with Pearl Abyss.

We do not have any information about their concrete plans at the moment. We recommend to wait for further news in the future or to contact Pearl Abyss through their website.

Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards

- Black Desert Online Team -

Wait, how can that be true? Game developers have no power... everything is to blame on the publishers!....

They obviously intend to monetize the different regions differently, i.e. higher prices for the "rich" western gamers and lower prices for the less affluent regions...

No, it means the game developer has control of the game. And they will decide who will publish the game in each region.

They just lost millions of players, i hope it fails hard.

I know they do that for a reason and many of you love to support any devs decision dispite how bad it is, but considering how many good mmos are being developed, players will stop caring about this one in a hearbeat.

    See ya Black Desert.

I don't know.  Not to be racist, but it's going to be a refreshing change of pace to play an MMO without constant "jajajaja" spam.

Cant blame them when some regions belong to publishers.

They dont have the rights and if a publisher already made a deal with another studio its not their faulth.

People should get some basic understanding instead of crying like baby's without even knowing why or how some publishers cannot get their version in some country's.

do people really care about ip bans? i mean anyone with half a brain can bypass it or is able to google how to bypass it, so if i really wanna play with my russian friend nothings gonna stop me to do so. just a waste of ressources imo.

Maybe it's because I'm Canadian... But I don't really see what the big deal is.
As long as Gameforge isn't publishing the game in Europe, you guys should be okay! :)

Nah, those will still play it through a proxy or the like.
Can't get rid of the vermin that easily. Not to mention that contrary to popular belief, they're not exclusive to specific countries.

Edit: Besides, isn't the game going to be B2P? Or am I thinking of a different MMO? That in itself provides a much better barrier against the scum of the gaming world.

I think he's pretty clearly implying that the Brazilian servers will have lower prices than the American servers.

Honestly I think having a separate South American publish would be better for everyone involved if they were actually working on it in a timely manner.

Russia usually has it's own publisher for Korean games so that's hardly surprising.

Not sure how Turky figures in to all of this. Perhaps Pearl Abyss wants to package the Middle East as a region and thought Turky would fit better there than with Europe.

To be honest they actually said "excluding" Turkey and part of Russia, though I don't quite understand what "part of Russia" means since Russia has already its publisher.

I had given up on this game due to the IP block, but I just read an update (it was from November saying that Oceania countries can play:

Programs like Wtfast or Exitlag can solve this IP block problem, can not?

The BRs are a big market, and part of MMO is "massively". Aion was able to keep its population up longer than anyone expected by making use of separate chats and even forums.

I know the horror stories out there, but I haven't ever actually seen BRs as a negative impact.
