So to sum up, they have made a solo MMO that you can't solo anymore. But I don't know.. I kinda like when an MMO is like that. Maybe I should re-visit. I understand there are more likes me whom constantly whine about hand-held contents and solo MMOs. Or am I missing the point again? Don't throw that "they lied!" again because I really don't care. A dev lying about a stat nerf is a Walk Disney version of deception.

The bone of contention being that they promised that would not happen.
I think it's safe to say they didn't do it just to annoy their fans en masse. So either it was a miscalculation or maybe they decided to reroute their current online single player product.

It's easy to deal with. If you were a sub account, go, and cancel it. When it asks you why you're cancelling tell them. If enough people stop giving them money they'll pay attention.
Never underestimate the power of boycott. The true power is in the hand of the consumer. The power to keep their money. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.
Except insurance companies.
That is EXACTLY what I did this morning! Canceling my sub and telling in comment I felt baited into resubbing yet again, just to get screwed over again by a sledgehammer nerf action a couple weeks later! ( just in nicer words mind you ).
I am totally done with Bioware and SWTOR! As this is not the first time!
These devs are totally clueless and completely incapable of balancing! It's either one way or the other! NEVER EVER a middle ground! All they are capable of is "SLEDGEHAMMER" jerk actions!
Right now, companions are worse than how they were before Patch 4.0 KotFE ! A complete joke of a patch! With over 10 hours downtime too yesterday to get the servers back up. /facepalm
Bioware never fails to disappoint. Companions needed a nerf. No one really argued that point. (Well a few did lol). I agree with what someone above said. They obviously do not play their own game. If they do they probably give themselves top end gear. Because that's who this companion nerf seems to favor. People that are in top-end raid gear. I mean considering everything that has happened over SWTOR's lifetime, are any of us really surprised anymore? But its pointless to complain about it. Because fact of the matter is, everyone subbed complaining about it, won't unsub. So it will be business as usual.
People are so use to Bioware's nonsense concerning SWTOR at this point, that most have adopted a bend over and take it, personality.

LOL I had canceled a few weeks ago because they had completely removed any challenge from the game. Your companions could in fact bot very difficult spawns with you contributing nothing.

You ralize that those "difficult spawns" (whatever you mean by that) were TRIVIAL without level sync and were farmed by "god mode max level players" before 4.0?

That was only people that found a bug (exploit) with the main hand weapon! People slotted high end main hand weapon in companion and dismiss/resummoned them and then the companion was doing up to 50% or so more damage and healing!! Which is clearly a bug (and still present), as gear was supposed to be pure cosmetical now for companions!
So their companion data was completely skewed due to people having abused this bug the past weeks! And that's what probably caused this way overboard companion nerf, rendering them completely useless for everyone who is not exploiting this bug! / FACEPALM!
And so far! As is always with them. Bioware has not responded nor taken action to revert this ridiculous patch from yesterday!
EA so glad i stopped playing this game. Were companions powerful yes they were. But at level 65 when i put my companion on damage he sucked. He sucked because i didn't spend all my time on the fleet buying gifts for him like all these hardcore QQ players were doing. If you go on any fleet the busiest vendor is the companion gift vendor. So again EA caves to very people who were doing this because they have no self control. I swear its the players that ruin mmo's these days.

Players AND idiotic developers that actually LISTEN to those same players (just ask Carbine)

I don't think its safe to assume anything with these guys. And frankly your proposal makes Bioware look pretty damned moronic. Considering they added the nerf clandestinely and only admitted to it after someone data mined it I'm going to assume that whatever the reason for the balance change they don't have a fucking clue what playerbase they are courting. Nor a fucking clue what the Samuel Langhorn hell they're doing.
And dear god if after touting the new expansion as being a more solocentric experience for months, and promising on the forums that lower level content would remain soloable they decided to pull a complete one eighty less than a month after release, what does that say about how much of a bunch of fuckwits they'd have to be? I personally would like to think they aren't that bloody stupid and this was a simple miscalculation as well, but from previous experiences I simply don't know what to think.
You hit the nail on the head. I would even suck up this change. If i knew they wont have any more bright ideas.
But their history and now this....it just aint worth it, Forrest Gump and box of chocolates comes to mind lol
Who knows what bright idea they may come up with next week. Of course, youll have to find out by datamining.
I don't get it, never thought my companion was OP. I usually pretty much skipped the heroics unless I could find someone to do them with as they were mostly death traps for me solo.
Funny I was planning to resub, but guess I will abort that foolish idea.
I didn't run with healer companions. The game is super easy, anyways. But the companions all around have felt OP since the expansion, so I'm not too bothered by a nerf unless they feel like they're less effective than they were pre-4.0.

What do you honestly think? If you have been long enough around with SWTOR and it's devs, than you obviously know the answer to that question!
I.e. They went ofcourse WAY overboard with the nerf! So yes, companions are now even worse than they were before patch 4.0 !

Companions might have been OP at higher levels, but how about the average player who does not invest in the powerups and uses the equipment they find, definitely NOT supper easy that way. Why do posters always assume that players use every advantage in the game to play? A game needs to allow different play styles. So it was not super easy at all for many of the players.
Personally, I found the last companion patch to be highly objectionable. I enjoyed finding equipment for the companions. That was a huge step backwards.
I played for a couple hours this morning after hearing about the changes. Can't do any heroics now at all and some of the missions are quite challenging now. None of my characters are over 35 so that is from a perspective of a lower level player.
Yesterday was a total faceplant for Bioware.
Maintenance that ended up being extended with no ETA, then patch problems which are still ongoing (I've been downloading their patch since 3pm EST time yesterday on a 15 MB connection and JUST hit 50%.) to finally companions nerfed from orbit.
This of course was after Eric got on the horn promising that players would be able to do all HEROIC content (Not flashpoints) with only themselves and their companions. Now companions can't heal themselves out of a wet paper bag and if your not 5 levels higher with equivalent equipment from the HEROIC your trying to do, you'll fail as your companions are falling faster than rain in a thunderstorm.
People are calling this 'The Sony Patch' referring it to the Galaxies killer.
I'm am saddened to see this IP which should have been a WoW rival reduced to a footnote by companies as inept as EA and Bioware. Then again, its not surprising coming from the company voted worst in 2015.

Exactly! And especially with the fast leveling you hit the cap of each planet quickly and get hit by the level sync (which is also way overboard btw, nerfing your character's stats pretty hard, with gear and stims no longer having any effect).
I leveled a new char the past month and had a total blast! Going through the story content on each planet was actually FUN now! Not having to spend half your time medidating all the time and all these hoards of trash mobs you had to fight through with each mission step finally dying a bit quicker... taking the chore of leveling away!
With green planetary gear (and few blue crafted mods slotted) and not spending millions of credits on buying companion gifts and boost your companion to rank 50, the game was still providing some challenge on mini bosses and in heroic (2+) planetary missions and solo flash points.
The only people that screamed OP and spammed the forum the last month, were veteran players with max rank Legacy buffs, in full RAID gear and spending millions of credits maxing out their companions ranks! /FACEPALM
Totally idiotic and usual behavior of the Bioware devs to listen to these few Loud mouths and ruin the game for everyone else who came back, resubbed and were thoroughly enjoying the new experience post Patch 4.0 !!
And now, thanks to these loud mouths, the game is now even in worse state than it was before Patch 4.0 !! /shrug

They did what so many devs did. They looked at the numbers of the incredibly geared players, who also have maximized Presence bonuses due to having been around for so long, and they based their nerf on that section of the player base. Which of course sucks big time for the ones that aren't geared to the teeth.
So those that don't have a bunch of datacrons and completed storylines (AKA level 50+ alts) are now stuck with gimped companions. xD

Was strongly considering continuing my sub (picked up a few months for the 12xp buff and expansion) once it ends later this month but definitely not going to now. The game was far more enjoyable when played at the leisurely pace it was at prior to this nerf. A nerf was probably necessary given how OP companions were, but this was way too much.
Would Eric have posted about the nerf if certain data hadn't been leaked beforehand?
We'll never know. I for one think after seeing Biofail play ostrich over and over again, he wouldn't have. Yesterday and today would have turned out exactly the same meaning nothing from Biofail at all. Not even anything about their poor download speeds ongoing for 30+ hours now.
I don't think anyone can say companions didn't need a nerf, but a nerf from orbit was way to overboard. For some reason Biofail after 4 years hasn't figured out what 'incremental' means. Its full on hammer or nothing.
Ham-fisted over corrections never end well: were they crazy before? after? both times? I'll go with door #3.

And per usual, there's not a yellow post to be found, just posts silently being moved to off topic.
Maybe mmoprg.com could help us players out and try and get a comment?

Not a yellow post you say,
Check the forums again. There is a big thread where Eric Musco has already replied asking players to try out the new companion status and leave their feedback.
Speaking of feedback, the only bitching and naysaying i see is from some primadonnas and drama queens on the forums. In game i have yet to witness any hyperbole regarding the nerf. A hand full of prople on Belsavis and Voss who struggled with one or two HC's actually asked for help O.o instead of whining like spoiled kids.
