Well, this sounds familiar...
I remember the first time I heard of Trion, before they ever actually launched anything, they were talking about how they had 3 different titles in development.
TBH, I don't even remember what the third was, some web game or something, iirc. The other two being... Rift and Defiance(maybe?).
I assume at least one of those 3 is related to the TLJ series.
As for MMOs, yeah, their track record is just horrid. It's a shame, because they really do have some fun and unique games(in the long run), but the terrible, messy launches cost them 80% of their potential playerbase.
Funcom's games are generally good, they fail miserably on marketing them and on release, but after some time the game becomes decent to very good. Age of conan for example is VERY good MMORPG, but they really fucked up the release of the game and then it's marketing. The current state of Age of Conan is very good mmorpg, but it's beyond redemption when it comes to player base. It's like a forgotten game. Year ago i gave it a shot i really enjoyed it, but it's just old game now if they make an Age of Conan 2 dat be great and not fail it's release.
I don't think they have the resources to make another MMORPG and they've already stated that they were going to focus on smaller games that cost less and take less time to produce.
