Hello
I am wondering where I could come in touch with people that work in the game industry, on a very very low scale.
I am not looking to get in touch with an organisation/team or company, but rather an individual that would like a hobby project.
I wanted to start an private server of a game thats been dead for 10years (and assuming the old developer wants to sell).
I am looking at a senario where I would;
-buy software
-buy space in server park.
This individual would be a person that is some sort of Server administrator on Linux, to setup the game, understand C++ (since thats what the game is written in) and understand how to troubleshot, if it wasnt just plug and play.
I understand that bringing an old game back to life could bring alot of challenges like, does the client part work on windows 10, is the software so old and full of exploits that people can wallhack, speedhack or worse. These are secondary problems for me.

However you could try the Unreal Modding community forums, that game is C++ and tons of very skilled people reside there.
I would assume other modding communities such as Half Life,Quake etc etc could offer some chance happenings.
Aside from those then obviously the game you talk about,if it has a modding community or something similar. Then you would be talking to people who likely already have knowledge with that game engine.

Since you reveal that you are a dev DrDread74.
Is it possible to look at cliendloader (files/installer from 2002-2008) and say if this is an job that would require much or less work?
Since I havent bought the software yet, I have nothing to show a potential dev-helper.
Im not saying a potential dev, wouldnt be paid, but its not a project that would bring in much money, I am looking for someone that would consider this like a hobby, like me.

Looking here is going to get you somewhat troll-ish responses. Looking around on broader sites(IE "all game developement") is going to cast a wide net that catches people who can't help (Will generally get people that bite that are less skilled than specific sites). And going for individuals on blogs is going to be a lot of work on your part, for people who probably will have no interest.
Also promising or suggesting a small return makes your offer less interesting than offering no return. Depending on the level or work your best bet is to set up a contract that promises all income to a charity, or to set it up so that there is no way your project can generate income.
To be honest for projects if the person can't up front enough to pay for someone's time reasonably, they don't have enough money to get the project to the point where a developer will make their time back on any sort of income/profit split. (This is what every developer knows whether they've formalized it themselves or not)

Also it's really really easy now days to host servers, and it's also really really cheap now days as well. You could at least invest something into the project as learn how to do that.
