To me bottom line is if this wasn't the ONLY Star Wars MMO officially offered than EA wouldn't get away with even a tenth of what they do. That to me as a Player/Customer is the biggest problem of all, and Star Wars Battlefront won't change that because EA holds that as well.
So since launch I put up with EA's shenanigans because there was no other Star Wars MMO go play in and finally even I got sick of their crap.... but because it's Star Wars many will just keep on taking it and SWTOR will never be good. Why make a good MMO when you can spend less and still make a profit?
Star Wars as an online gaming IP needs competition. Disney needs to share the love and spread licenses for online games under Star Wars IP out some so natural competition would encourage a better product over time, but I don't see that ever happening and EA will continue to monetize features ingame that few other MMO Producers would be allowed to get away with, and no competition means SWTOR and even Battlefront will just spiral downwards in quality because there's really no incentive for EA to do otherwise.
I do hope that EA does right today for the Customers with today's "big thing" what ever it is.

In my opinion this BIG thing is nothing.... all the hype for this would be in vain....
they ruin the game for me..... everthing u need to pay to unlock.... like when u meet you credit cap..... u have to pay CC to gain the rest of you credit.....
I like this game..... im pre-order the game..... play 7 day before launch.... spend a lot of money until goes F2P and i go Pref for a guy who spend 5 bucks goes pref like me.... or like a guy who spend 300 bucks on a CE

No one is paying premium money to share the IP and I doubt Disney will devalue the IP spreading it around.
Precisely Horusra no company is stupid enough to dish large amount of cash to share an IP.
Most of us are also willing to pay and support the games we play. So when they charge for hide head gear slot or for extra bars it is rightly so.Why not ask the freeloader to pay for these things ? Do not see any reason why they should not do this when they get the story for free. In fact they should also charge for the story part too.
I absolutely dislike the players who mooch and play and never pay a cent. I think more companies should nickle and dime these games for the f2p . They should do this so that those who subscribe feel it is absolutely worth the hassle of not having to put up with the nickle and diming.
Ok I know what they are going to do. Yoda's race, wookies, and jawa's will all be playable now. They will also sell star citizen ships from star wars to make some extra millions that you may or may not be able to play one day.
i wish they would focus on making a game people want to sub to instead of trying to entice people with crap that only makes them re sub for a month or less if at all. They need to focus on what makes people sub long term not in short term increments then leave again.
They need an open free roam space game like swg had
They need a viable open world pvp attack/capture the capital cities of worlds with incentive
They need to make companions unique again
This is just another rouse to entice people for short term subs. They just dont get it all it seems /smh
People are willing to pay anything for the name "Star Wars' no matter how much crap that turns out to be. So why should they bother?
It's pretty stupid to say they're not "trying". Do you honestly think their development team is just sitting around doing nothing for 8 hours a day? Do you really think the people working on swtor don't care about it? I know people on this site love to shit on devs who work at large companies, but you're just being ridiculous.
The game does not need free roam or open world pvp, nor does it "make people sub long term". Just because you enjoy a particular type of game does not make it the best. And honestly it's completely ridiculous to even ask for such drastic changes, do you have any concept for the amount of work that would go into what you're asking for? It would take years of development. It's not happening. Ever. The game is a themepark with a focus on story.
What the game needs to focus on is balancing server populations, fixing lag issues, improving the f2p experience, adding content in a more timely fashion, etc.. Small, realistic changes which can go a long way in improving the overall user experience.
Anyways this "big" announcement is probably just going to be some subscriber reward system, which will be a huge disappointment. It has to be something legitimately big, like a cross server system, to avoid any kind of backlash.
Actually the game does have guild vs guild ownership of planets or something like that. It also has the Starfighter mod but they really needed to make it tie into the main story instead of making it optional. Noone should be calling this game garbage because it is a true jewel and worth playing. Sure it could be better but then again so can every other mmo in the world so whats your point?

If you feel that your sub is only worth the money if the company is trying to squeeze on f2p then that already means the game is crap because otherwise you would say "the game is great so we should subscribe to support the devs" not what you just said. Pathetic!!!
Boobs are LIFE, Boobs are LOVE, Boobs are JUSTICE, Boobs are mankind's HOPES and DREAMS. People who complain about boobs have lost their humanity.

Of course they are trying, their track record since launch says it in volume. Ok let's forget about old stuff and focus on recent, let's start with 4.0...yeah ...well...have fun...

OH NOOO I missed the livestream. So what was the announcement?
From SWTOR forums:
Today , 05:50 PM |
Hey folks,
Here is a wrap-up of the things we talked about on the Producer Letter Livestream…
Chapter 10 – Anarchy in Paradise will be launching on February 11th. Along with Chapter 10, will be Game Update 4.1 which will include Fighting for the Eternal Championship, Bowdaar as an unlockable Companion through Alliance, and updates to Crafting. We will have more details on those changes in January.
We have a whole host of new subscriber rewards for you as well:
Be a subscriber on January 11th and receive HK-55 as a playable Companion when 4.1 launches on 2/9.
Be a subscriber continuously from January 11th through the launch of Chapter 16, and receive an entire bonus Chapter where you will play as HK-55!
Be a subscriber on the 1st of each month, and receive 2 days of early access to any Chapter which launches that month. This includes Chapter 10 in February.
There will also be additional monthly subscriber rewards throughout Season 1, most of which will be themed around HK-55.
Throughout the month of December, we will have plenty of things going on as well. The Gree, Rakghoul, and Bounty Contract events will each run for a week. Log in any time from 12/8 to 1/5 to receive our 4th anniversary rewards, including an HK-51 Stronghold Decoration, more information later this week! We will also be running Life Day and Double XP, more info on those tomorrow.
We hope you enjoyed the stream and want to thank you all for tuning in. If you have any questions about the stream or anything else, throw them in this thread and I will work with Ben on getting them answered. Thanks!
1. Chapter 10 coming on february 11. People who are subscribed continuously until February 9 will get access on that day, others will get access on 11. 2. Subscribe by january 11 to get HK-55 as companion, again. 3. Subscribe for continuous 8 month from januray 11 to august 1 to get "one" bonus chapter "free",in this chapter players will play as HK-55. Basically pay 120$ for "one" bonus chapter.

So basically all "hot air".
Didn't Act/Blizz try this with WoW too? Stay subbed to WoW for x amount of time and you'd get I think it was beta access to Diablo 3?
In War - Victory. In Peace - Vigilance. In Death - Sacrifice.
Yeah ... Subscriber rewards that won't be available for nearly a year. A (nearly) whole year of subscription time for a side quest with a character that isn't your own? Doesn't seem worth it; if you're not already a subscriber, chance are, this "reward" didn't incentivize you to subscribe.
(Spoiler alert)
Not to mention that receiving HK-55 as a companion (again) is kind of a plot-killer and completely devalues his story line in KotFE. This is definitely an EA move, not a BioWare move, IMO.
(Spoiler end)
I was expecting something a little more tangible. Larger discounts in the Cartel Market, more options to buy direct items from packs rather than gambling with the Cartel Packs ... Pretty much anything to incentivize people to subscribe, aside from another companion. There's already so many companions you can have, and now that every companion can fill every role, there's very little reason to get excited over a companion returning to your already long roster.
The only people who will really be happy with this are players who are already subscribing (since you have to be in order to play through KotFE) and players who also really liked HK-55 in the story line. It gives no incentive to players who aren't already subscribing to do so, and gives a niche amount of currently-subscribed players a reason not to unsubscribe.
