Korea may make a lot of grind games with cash shops, but they have a few funny movies on Netflix.

    Jeon Woo-chi: The Taoist Wizard

You saw that too? I also like War of Arrows.
    Yeah I've seen Woo-chi.

I haven't seen War of Arrows.

I watched the Good, the Bad, and the Weird.

There was also another one I watched that was about Buddha before he became Buddha.  It was also a comedy.  It featured the Monkey king and a few characters.

Both were fairly amusing to watch (to me).

I'll check out War of Arrows.

    Thanks

Journal to the West, with Shu Qi? That is a Chinese movie, not Korean, directed by the famous Stephen Chow.

It was definitely a fun movie.

    Yes, that was it.

    Yes it was pretty funny.

I felt bad the kid lost his nice hair and his girlfriend died lol.

I didn't realize it was Chinese.  Thanks for enlightening me.

I also apologize that it isn't actually Buddha, but just one of his disciples.

No biggie. The movie was a alternate take of the famous Journey to the West story. This movie is a good mix of old elements, new elements, sfx, action and humor.

How hard it is to make an MMORPG depends on how good you want it to be.  If the only goal is that it is has to be an MMORPG that runs well enough to be mostly playable, and not that it has to be good, you can do that on a $100k budget.  If you want the game to be any good, it tends to cost rather more than that.

My guess is they take mmo's more seriously than we do. We are all about working factory/production jobs 100 hours a week so we can continue to pay bills. This gives us little time for games.

    We are?
    yup,

I just left a 100hr week software job at qualcomm to work at a healthcare company for 40hrs a week. Most people I see or know who don't have the high income jobs work 2/3 jobs to afford a place to live.
But that's not factory/production jobs now is it?

You even left a "software" job. Then again, though there are software developers who work insane hours, they don't all work insane hours.

However, I can see people working several minimum wage jobs to make ends meet. But he US is isn't really about factories/production anymore, I believe we have more of an information economy.

Asian MMOs are pretty much the same, good graphic but extremly shallow gameplay, hey just look how the quests works in those game they are all copy and paste from one another.

I wish they just throwaway the quests and focus on grind like old times . Korea / China MMORPG suck at quests making .

A majority of those games are using the same engine with different graphics. The Chinese games are almost all the same game engine tweaked with a new look and sold again. Imagine if you can simply "copy" the WoW engine and make your own game and not get sued. It would be the same thing.

IP laws are so fuzzy in most eastern countries, that they would make the most avid software/movie/music pirate cringe.

a few reason i can think of:

    cheaper labor
    large asian market.
Some asian mmo actually make it to the west.  Very few west mmorpg are actually successful in asia.

Almost all the asian mmo made actually made a profit.

I actually predicted this to happen a few years ago based on MMO trends that were happening since 2005 onwards.

Western MMO design = send in the WoW clones

Korean MMO designs followed a developmental evolution with many small steps inbetween.

Lineage II -> AION -> TERA -> Blade & Soul -> Arch Age -> Black Desert

we are talking about MMOs, not MMORPGs. You need to include World of Tank clones, Diablo clones like Marvel Heroes, and so on ....
