f2p MMOs grow in 2015, but not p2p MMOs (not really surprising)

and I quote, "In the lead-up to the holiday season, total digital games sales hit their highest point for the year so far. With the exception of pay-to-play MMOs, all segments managed to grow their revenue."

    Wow didnt expect gw 2 to be so high on the pc list because there was a calm and the xpac shouldnt have made that much money since it only had 8 days in october

    But sales of Windows 10 machines grew much faster than either P2P or F2P MMORPGs, so both classes of MMORPGs are doomed and Windows 10 is going to dominate the world.  Right?

    Some of the comparisons that you could make are complete nonsense.  In the case of this post, it depends heavily on how you categorize games as what qualifies as P2P versus F2P.  After all, there are not two business models, but hundreds or more.

    The fact they categorize League of Legends  and Crossfire as MMO, disqualifies anything they write.

    LoL is a MOBA, Crossfire a standard FPS, neither is an MMO.

    Superdata release a list of made up numbers again.

    Let the games begin!
  • ShaighShaigh Member EpicPosts: 2,150
    So gw2 is third on pc games but doesn't qualify as an MMO, swtor is third on P2P MMO while being a F2P game. Counter-strike Global Offensive and crossfire are very similar but one is a PC game while the other one is an MMO. Destiny isn't an MMO.

    Let's establish this as the truth because Superdata said so.

    I think its time people accept that the 'data' from Superdata, is probably less reliable than the data  obtained from Xfire and Raptr, as its based on guesstimates, or at least, data obtained largely from the mobile market. It makes for fun arguments but, not much else.

    You're really not the person who should be telling others how words should be used.

    Windows 10 pretty much is dominating the PC world. Of course.

    And p2p MMOs (not MMORPGs) are "more dommed" than f2p ones. At least the f2p MMOs are growing.

    You guys really serious? I mean.. really? Superdata lists games with mostly their payment system. P2P MMO means you have to pay monthly fee for to play that game. F2P MMO means you can play that game for free. They're listing games with box fee on their Console  and PC section. That's why you see Gw2 on PC and that's why you don't see Battlefield or CoD on P2P or F2P section. Is it really this hard to understand or are you especially ignoring the facts just because you can bash them?

    Now before you say why Swtor on the P2P list etc. You all know exactly that Swtor actually a P2P game and the F2P is basically a trial like Gw2 with its F2P system. And yes LoL IS an MMO. If you can call any multiplayer fps game with MMOFPS title you can easily say that LoL is an MMO. It is massive, it is multiplayer and yes it is online. Get over it...

    Oh look, another cherry picked, non-comprehensive list of incorrectly categorized games pitted against another cherry picked, non-comprehensive list of incorrectly categorized games.

    I wonder who wins?

    Maybe next time we can compare apples to toilet plungers.

    The gaming industry already do. You don't think Blizz decides not to make new MMORPGs, and turned to MOBA, shooters, and card games without doing *some* market comparisons?

    Which is why all these threads mean nothing. Why do you keep posting this crap?
    I'm fairly certain, if I cherry picked my comparisons and created category lists regardless of accuracy, I could easily present "facts" that showed the the best P2P games pitted against the worst performers in the F2P market. And create a "factual" info-graphic depicting very opposite of what you posted.

    Let's see....

    Tera = P2P mmo...Strike 1.
    SWTOR = P2P mmo...Strike 2.
    League of Legends = F2P mmo...Strike 3.

    Disregard, nothing to see here.

    Because it is interesting discussion to me.

    You care enough to post. If you think it means nothing to you, you can simply ignore the topic. I am sure lots of topics means little to some people. You can't please everyone.

    If it has anything to do with MMOs, why not start a topic on it? People who find it interesting will participate, those not, not.
