Gerald is right up there as one of the best playable protagonist in video games history.
He's just so unique compared to all other "generic heroes" in other games.
My guess is plenty of people jumped on the hype with Witcher 3, and they never even bothered playing Witcher 1 and 2. Which is also why I don't understand how can someone hate Witcher's combat, when it's one of the best RPG combat ever designed as well. I mean it's miles better than the slow, clunky and dull combat Skyrim had. Hell most true TES fans wish ES6 would be more like Witcher 3 than Skyrim, especially the combat.
Wow! Witcher 4...I would love that!!!! Lets see, Ciri could be the protagonis or Geralt could come out of retirement....any of the minor characters from the original stories would work. How about Marigold or Yennifer (even though I don't like her at all, treated Geralt like dirt).

Combat is clunky. Maybe not terrible but certainly I wouldn't say I loved it by any stretch of the imagination.
I love the witcher series and I have played every single one of them. I can't remember when I played Witcher 1, if it was around launch or not, but I definitely played it before Witcher 2 was launched or announced. The Witcher 1 hooked me up on the series. I loved the feel of the game, the quests were awesome and it was just pure epicness. THe combat was my main beef with the game. Witcher 1 actually had the worst combat system of the three imo. The whole timing of your clicks was just frustrating and contrived. Throw in the gimmicky signs for one shot killz lolz.
Witcher 2 and 3 combat was a huge step up.
I don't know about TES being like the W3. They are kind of different RPGs. TES series are more about exploration and doing stuff in an awesome world. The Witcher series are much more story driven and you actually are interested in the story.
Also I cringe every time anyone uses the "true fans" card. Basically what you imply is that if you don't agree with a statement you are not a "true" TES fan.
