If it does, it'll be incomplete. IMO there will be at least another few years of development before a decent alpha test.
Even when if it releases, I doubt it will have everything that was promised.
I think this is probably more likely. Every time they release a new ship to buy, I keep saying to myself, "man, this is going to be the scam of a lifetime".

I'm glad I'm not the only person thinking this. Now logically, I dont' think it will be a scam, however, every nwe ship that releases, this exact thing crosses my mind.
It will release, but I doubt it will ever contain the laundry list of features (what would essentially be several games rolled into one MMO experience) they've added or ever live up to the hype. It's too big to fail but also too hyped to deliver.

SC isn't coming out yet. It's in ALPHA on the Live Verse that anyone who's backed or purchased a ship can now login and fly around.
It isn't a persistent universe yet and that is to start up soon, so things you do ingame will 'save' for your progress.
At the moment you spawn on a space station and run down to a screen to call up your ship, you can jump in that and fly around to a dozen or so comm arrays with some Pirate killing action, and then you EVA down inside and turn them on... each one grants access to another mission from that and a new location appears on your Quantum Jump points when you are ready to jump.
There's a station to refuel ammo / fuel and repair your ship from damage in combat and a security station for "FPS" combat that you can land on, run inside, grab a rifle and start FPS combat in the station... however die there you have to call down a new ship and fly back.
It's quite stable and last night was zooming around for around 2 hours doing various tasks before I quit. They have multi-crew ships in-play now that you can bring your friends (or randoms) along, although the party system implemented is still quite limited in function, and the dev's are full aware and will be expanding upon it soon.
There's also another patch planned to drop between now and christmas/end of year. I don't know if it'll go to the live alpha verse or the PTU (essentially the pre-alpha verse) though.

@Maygus There are a lot more videos out there showing major problems with it. So to say it is stable is really a big stretch!
Majority of those videos are from PTU... I was only in the PTU from 2.0h onwards and 2.0h-k were horrid for stability. 3-5 minutes plaing before crash, the odd 15min session, L and M were beautiful and I lasted 30-60+ minutes before CTDs or disconnects.
It's stable to be able to bug-test and provide additional feedback to the dev's on any issues that we notice in play-testing. Graphic issues, mechanics failing (IE: in PTU2.0M I couldn't fire missiles on the Connie, this has carried through to live)
So it has issues yes, various crashes still yes... that is why it is alpha is it perfect? No... is it stable to get play-testing in the mini-verse for alpha to provide feedback to the devs? Yes.
What you want it to be gold launch now when not all ships are in, and even then not all ships are currently flyable due to getting reworks done on them?

Just in case anyone is brief enough to take this at face value; EVE is a corporate warfare simulator that happens to take place in space... SC aims to be a semi-Newtonian 6DoF space sim with a persistent universe attached.
Not at all the same thing.

comparing SC to EVE is the hysterical.
I mean if one doesnt know gaming like at all I could see why they might think that.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Nope, completely wrong. apples to oranges comparison
But they're both round!!!ish... /sarcasm
2.0 certainly installed more confidence in me in the game reaching fruition... 1.3 was like "so? you have a map with a couple of ships on rails flying past and no interaction..." but flying the ships I could and doing the combat I have and having that last 2-3 hours to the point I had to manually quit... that made me feel better about the game being progressed further much faster.
I'm excited for next patch... I'll finally get to fly me Freelancer!

(assuming the premisse that CR does not release unfinished bugged mess, of course, is this the basic and constantly advertised premisse right?)
