I have been playing PC games for 20 years now and this is one of the very few games I would give a 6 out of 10, what is this game supposed to represent.
I don't see the resemblence between this and hardcore AD&D 3rd Ed. or for that matter why they have made the game functionality so unusual, what were they thinking ?

What do you believe is so unusual about the game?
Real Time. Action, dodging arrows in real time.
I would give the game a try nonetheless, but yes, it is FAR from what D&D is. (a THACO is what replace your reflex, using both the THACO and clicking and moving at the right place is indeed asking to ''touch'' twice, 2 overlappings systems, which should be exclusives to each others)
Anyway, it is D&D, and anyone that dont believe in them will burn in Hades! Praise be the OverLord Cyric!
PS: I dont think the D&D fanbase will stick a long time to a real time version of D&D, but well, who know...most of them will wait and buy ONLY after reading reviews from others fans, it is a old and wise player based. D&D have a bigger fanbase then Blizzard, but it is a much more wiser and slower to purchase fanbase...so the quality of the product will be extremely important if they plan to sell a lot of copies. Not to mention that Wizards of the Coast could be quite mean to Turbine should this flop...The Baldur's Gate that was a success and peoples are praising is not the real time version made later, but the original, game based turn, D&D setting...
PPS: I dont even bring the long term solo oriented focus that computer D&D games have always been about and that they are openly defying and not respecting in this title.
PPPS: An existing system in real time is not exclusive with having many ''mini games'' that could turn to be the focus of the conventional D&D players, and ignored by the action freaks. All depend on how everything is made, the D&D fanbase is a powerplayer(not hardcore) fanbase, so building the mini games should keep that into mind if they do such stuff. Those mini games could be game based turn and quite involving as to efforts, commitment, time...and so on...and they would not even be 10% of the work of the action aspect. Again, a ''Magic'' mini game is not a bad idea, but it is not what the fanbase want. To think the fanbase want anything that is not game based turn PvE with a progression tree is to not know the fanbase, yet it may appeal to others players...but all is a question of choices, you want to appeal to the conventional D&D fans? If so, real time will always be a bad idea...almost as bad as PvP.

THAC0 was removed in 3rd Edition
I think the a good portion of the CRPG DnD fanbase is checking out the game. The biggest concern from most of them is that it is not Forgotten Realms (no Drizzt, etc.). Personally, I like Eberron much more than FR, but the majority of the DnD fanbase is FR. So the game will come as a shock to most when they find out the cultural differences in the races and game of Eberron and their beloved FR.
