City State Entertainment’s ‘Tyler’ sat down with us today in a
livestream, to talk about the game and do an unscripted Q&A. He is a
producer, environment designer, and office manager.
How are people holding up for the hard crunch?:
Everyone is holding up really well. This is probably the easiest crunch
he’s ever done for a crunch, but they are trying hard to keep things as
light as they can.
Will there be loading screens with artwork?: Of course.
What is the team focusing on today?: Going through
the art cycle, through the TDD and Viking armors. Tyler is working on
all the pine tree biome changes. It’s a rough pass now because they are
about to get all the lighting changes which will change a lot. Working
on new lighting and effects and trying to make those really clean so
they don’t hit framerate too badly.
They’re also working on character abilities, buildings, terrain and
building plots. They’re also currently working to track down a memory
leak that they found. Brian and Ben are working closely to put the
ability systems together; ability effects, body part targeting, etc.
They now have item persistence in the world. Items can be placed onto
the ground and then picked back up, etc. Weapon stats are going in now
and then armor stats.
Are your ability synergies via A.I.R. (fire and ice becoming fog, etc.) going to be worked on continually?: Yes, of course. It will be rough in beta 1.
Will we have a FNF tomorrow?: They’ve discussed getting one in but it will depend.
Will pickpocketing ever become a feature?: That would be awesome but he doesn’t know that they have talked about it. Mark would probably be interested in it.
What is the realistic expectation for population for beta 1?:
He doesn’t think they will have thousands – though that would be
awesome – but he doesn’t expect any issue with having too many players
try to come in during beta 1.
What races will we have for beta 1?: Trying to get
in humans for each realm, valkyries, luchorpans, and picts. The primary
reasons being that the technology required for those is fairly minimal.
Currently they are trying to work out ways to keep things light for the
studio.
Working on character creation?: Currently, they
aren’t working on character creation at all. They are focusing on the
really complicated technology that they’re innovating and need to get
into the game.
In CUBE: People will hopefully be able to use Props. So a player
could build a doorframe and put a door in it. They even have props that
are specific to realms.
There are different animations designed for different weapons. Axe swinging animation will be different, etc.
Will the Úlfhéðnar be in beta 1?: No, they weren’t really happy with them and they need another concept pass.
CUBE is very angular, will we see more curviness and smooth surfaces?: Yes, eventually.
What is Mark Jacobs working on right now?: He is working on crafting.
How is the search for new programmers going?: They have some bites. It is difficult because they want really good programmers that can keep up with the other programmers.
How long can one speculate this will postpone the game?
@arcundo Depends on how quickly they find the replacement!? I'd guess CSE will be willing to offer more in this tricky situation (or to lower the criteria a bit), both will make stuff happening quicker.

Today's update says that Summer is almost here! and also that "I have no doubt that the news we are going to deliver next Friday will bring a big smile to ALL of our Backers".
Both Newsletter #24 and Friday Update (sorry for the delay *cough) are out. There's no big revelations inside, but rather many small tasty bits - say Wyrmling is on again.
