I've had a blast in this game and will pretty much make it my mmo home 'til Pantheon releases and we see how that turned out.
Can I pve only? Or will it be like ArcheAge and Aion where eventually you have to pvp. I'm just not interested in doing that anymore, but the rest of the game sounds very cool.
It's a PvP game, you're going to have to deal with it eventually. If you know what you're doing you can probably avoid much of it sure, just don't be upset with an occasional PK or GvG dec.
Every class is receiving a male/female counterpart. Warrior/Valkyrie .. Witch/Wizard .. so on so forth. Theres a female/male ninja and soon well have the male ranger counterpart.
It goes with the lore - and the lore in this game is so disgustingly in-depth that it makes sense - and they are being released super fast in KR .. so we'll get em pretty fast as well ...
Its not worth overlooking this game because of the male/female thing - it really is one hell of a game.
Not quite true. Several classes are gender unique. The Mages (Wizard/Witch) the Samurais (Blader and Pulumb [sp?]) and the Assassin (Ninja/Kounoichi) are pretty much straight up gender mirrors, but the rest...
The Valkyrie has group heals (minor heals, but still heals) and ranged magic attacks that the Warrior does not have. To balance that out, the Valkyrie must have inferior CC and/or defense compared to the Warrior. If they want to make gender specific classes that are similar, how about a Crusader (female Warrior that uses a Claymore [defensive style type two handed sword]) and maybe a Templar (a Valkyrie type character possibly using a two handed Halberd [2handed single bladed axe with a spear head], with less ranged damage to counter the improved DPS of a two handed weapon).
The Berserker is male only in Asian folklore, and I do not expect them to make a female version unless demand is HUGE.
The Sorceress has a male counterpart in Asian folklore, but they are completely different as far as abilities. Considering how difficult this class would be to balance out, I doubt we will see the male version unless they weenie out and just make a gender mirror.
The male pet handlers in Asian folklore are demon summoners. I would think this is a possibility for the future assuming the game does well, maybe call them Warlocks. But once again, there would be distinct differences in gameplay with such a character.
A male archer is a possibility, but don't count on it, since there is no such character on the Asian or Russian servers. The Blader uses a bow and a sword, and I bet that is as close as we get to a gender mirror of the Ranger.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
There are many reasons why it's bad. For one, people might like the way one class feels, but they are locked into a single gender. Another reason, is because it causes all sorts of imbalance issues with pvp, and also with factions/populations on servers. I've seen it happen in many gender-locked games. A prime example would be Tera's Reaper and Gunner classes. Both are gender/race locked, which also affects cash shop/monetary items since they are more favored over other races/genders. It's just bad overall.
edit: It seems quoting these forums are kind of broken or something. I couldn't properly quote. Oh, well.
So many people here who don't understand that this game doesn't offer *classes* but *characters*, in much the same way as Vindictus. It's a very Korean design thing. Whining about 'genderlocked classes' is pointless.
That said, i wonder what the actual reason is for people to protest against this. Genderlock causes imbalances in PvP? How?
I bought it and plan to do CBT2. I know it's primarily a PvP game. That from what I've seen and read is the ONLY thing that seriously worries me. Why force PvP down our throats and lose so many plentiful customers? It's their call of course. I hope PvE content somehow comes along later. Great combat and great visuals. Compared to what garbage is out now it'll keep me occupied for a bit. I too am very interested in Pantheon.
To those who have played: How big are the zones and how do the transitions work? Are they seamless like WoW, or gated like GW2? Or even tiny _and_ gated like FFXIV?

BDO is a stunning game and like you said the graphics are out standing... For me the biggest problem was the UI... the fount is way too small and you can't move the mini map which is a big problem for peeps with 3 monitor set up. One thing that I really love about it is how the game seems to be so alive! All the NPC's can interact with you and they react to you bumping into the them and so on.... really a very nice touch. I also like the fact that I did not find one invisible wall....not a one. It seemed like it I could anywhere I wanted. Also no loading screens.... it makes the world seem so much larger and life like.... well done!! And the combat!!!! just feels so good and natural and the animations are very well done!!!! ( Guild wars take note!!!)
As far as anything being gated ... no it's not. not one time did I have to wait for anything too load.....
To those who have played: How big are the zones and how do the transitions work? Are they seamless like WoW, or gated like GW2? Or even tiny _and_ gated like FFXIV?
The world felt just like one big world. The only loading screens i remember seeing were when i first started the game, or going into or out of cutscenes. When you buy your residence, that residence is an instanced building. I expected a teleport, or something to shift my character into that instance, but it didn't happen. You swing the door open and walk in, like you would a real home. You can still see the rest of the world active through the windows, and it doesn't feel instanced at all.
As far as size... it feels massive to me, but i didn't actually level that much. I did too many side activities. Right before the beta ended, i ran to the main city and it took me about 20 mins to get to it just running straight across the map. The main city itself is one of the largest i've seen in any MMO. Unfortunately, most of it looked like it didn't have much purpose yet, so hopefully they add some reasons to explore everywhere.

Because there will be an oversaturation of certain classes due to the gender lock. It will be even worse in BD, since it's mainly open-world pvp. I've seen this happen many times in gender-locked MMOs.
To those who have played: How big are the zones and how do the transitions work? Are they seamless like WoW, or gated like GW2? Or even tiny _and_ gated like FFXIV?
The zones seemed huge to me! There was no transitions that I saw. I never got to the Black Desert, but I *ahem* explored a lot of areas that I really should not have been in. It seems like the world is massive, and I never had to zone anywhere. Considering the fact that I only got to level 20, I may have missed some stuff, but it was large and wide open as far as I saw.
The world is going to the dogs, which is just how I planned it!
Would not be the first closed beta, not by a long stretch.
Nice architecture yep
Nice lighting,it's global lighting so no,it's close to the lowest form of lighting a map can have.
Nice vistas ..yep
gameplay and animations are often terrible
My fave class the ranger/archer is done terribly.goofy .anis, unreal aoe's,spam type firing yeah more like a goofy arcade rendition than anything close to a real archer.
Then 20 years later and we still here the hut hut hut hut attack grunts, seriously ?
Basically it is like 3 different teams made the game,a nice artistic team and then some rank amateur animation/gameplay teams.
Oh then who thought it was a good idea to have waypoint arrows on the map at all times? Here ya go follow the arrows, let's play connect the dots, thanks for ruining immersion.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Nothing to hide, but WHY must they have one? Not every game or company follows the same model or plan to launch. If you want to see the game before, register for beta or spend some money.....I know its hard to believe that things COST money.
something even harder to believe, people are stupid enough to buy something based on nothing but hype, you know in 2015 most game got open beta or trial ?? when a game release right into Buy to play and when that a mmorpg you can be worry, when they ask for 100$ for beta key you can be worry.
i know it hard to believe but peoples dont want trow away money useless

Do you realize that the game has no NDA right? So, just hop into any twitch stream or youtube and see what the game is about. Plus, they gave out a ton of beta one codes to multiple sources. You should follow their twitter or facebook page for beta two sources.
Guild Wars 2 had an open beta, why not BDO? Since this will allegedly be using the same model. Do they have something to hide? .
Since GW2 did not have an open beta for HoT, they had something to hide too! Like how little content they actually had.
Arena Net made keys readily available at gaming sites. They also provided a refund if you pre-purchased and didn't like the game. That's pretty open.
Open beta means just that, open. Sorry you are getting it confused with the way devs are now starting to blur lines, but a true open beta is open, not a refundable purchase.
Only in MMOs is an open beta expected if not out right demanded. No other genre of gaming has this mentality where you should be entitled to try the game before buying it.
Vast majority of single player games don't even have demos anymore. Yet no one seems to mind buying those before they try it.

Well with single player games theres not really a long term investment involved, when it comes to mmos open beta allows players to get a feel for the game before they decide they want to spend money and months maybe years invested in it. Also it shows consumers that the company behind the product feels confident in their ability to deliver. Theres really only 2 reasons you would not have an open beta. 1, You know your game is mediocre and in most cases people who buy it would not be able to get a refund. 2. Since the game is mediocre people who try it would not be willing to buy it.

And the reason mmos have had and continue to have betas is because as opposed to a normal single player RPG, testing the "massively" and "online" aspect of mmos requires betas to ensure that the game actually works.
sorry, rpgs don't even compare when it comes to testing.
And not to dig on GW2 too much, because they do have a mostly successful and beautiful game and I enjoyed most of my time in it, but not having a PTR is another reason they have so much broken content, both ongoing and especially on patches.
PTRs are another staple of mmos to ensure quality.
they same systems that were exploited in archeage have the same design flaws(or are they intentional?) - primarily the auction house.. this will be exploited by the same people who exploited them in archeage.. trading has been turned off to avoid gold selling yet the trade icon is still visible in game??? why is it even there?? so they can turn gold selling on later?
rinse and repeat archage - this time she just has on a prettier dress.. I bought the game and that's all they really wanted was fifty bucks - fair enough

I played AA Alpha for months, it's not the same. There are some similar systems but as it stands, they are quite different.
BDO has twitch style aiming with keyboard combo's for combat. A lot of grappling and short term CC, AA did not. BDO has a Labor-style system for gathering/processing/crafting and some (very few) quests but it's 1 gathering/processing/crafting for 1 energy and energy regenerates at 1:3min, AA was not this fast...especially after they went nuclear just before release with the monetization.
The severe limitation of the item market (AH) and the lack of player/guild trading systems is probably my biggest concern atm, as it completely eliminates the social interaction for that aspect of the game and it might as well just be an NPC selling the goods.

you supported everything i said. twitch aiming style = prettier dress

that in game icon you see for player trade?? already can sell potions to npcs for silver - that it's the way they convert buy potions with tons of silver!! give tons of potions for $$ to player!! sell potions to npc for tons of silver!!
buy back those things from the auction house the auto buy bots purchased at fixed low prices!! use that rmt welll guys it is now P2W!!!

Playing: WF
Played: WoW, GW2, L2, WAR, AoC, DnL (2005), GW, LotRO, EQ2, TOR, CoH (RIP), STO, TSW, TERA, EVE, ESO, BDO
Tried: EQ, UO, AO, EnB, TCoS, Fury, Ryzom, EU, DDO, TR, RF, CO, Aion, VG, DN, Vindictus, AA
Your country is restricted from accessing our service.black desert are a bunch of assholes for IP locking countries!
This is not uncommon. Certainly not unique to BDO. Want around it? Use a VPN and get a Korean IP address. Problem solved.
