Great MMORPGS?

I was first introduced to MMORPGS when I started playing EQ (when it first came out).  This was the greatest game ever IMHO.  But the last 3 years of EQ (i would say sense PoP) HAS SUCKED!  So I left the game.  I tried SWG but it was horrible.  No where near the interaction I enjoyed in EQ.  So I went to Lineage 2 I like this game though I would be come bored from time to time.  So I started Botting, exploting, etc.  But that got old fast.  This brings me to my question:

I am looking for kick ass game like what EQ was in the early days.  Does anyone have a suggestion?  I am starting to lean towards WoW but I am not sure yet.  Any advise would be great!

Thanks

Dave

since you said, WoW, the GW fankids are gonna roll in and start bragging how its better (dotn worry it isnt, its the exact opposite >_>)

anyways... if you want to play with an awesome community, play A Tale In The Desert, EVERYONE is nice, not one person will bad mouth you.

i think EVE is the same community wise... so ionno

Main character in Pure Pwnage, Jeremy as himself and Teh Pwnerer...

well I agree botting sucks!  I was bored and thought I would try the game at high lvl so I went from lvl 40 - 60 in 1 week.  And even at lvl 60 I didnt enjoy it all that much so I left the game.  It was a short botting experiance and IMHO it made the game even more boring.  I would never do it again.

Hell?  its better to rule in hell then serve in heaven IMHO!

I played EQ, EQ2, and WOW.  EQ was the best, no question.  I agree with the original poster.  POP changed EQ for the worse.  Verant had a vision, SONY changed it without realizing what they were doing.  That is my opinion.

The only game I will play now is Eve.  Eve has an an unadulterated beauty to it.  The depth is staggering.  PvP is extremely well integrated.  The consequences for death during battle can be terrible.  Eve is not a care bear game.

Your quest for that original EQ community may elude you forever.  There are lots of conversations on the Eve corporate channel.  But that six man group with an enchanter, wiz, cleric, fighter, pally and mage?  That time of wonder is gone my friend.  Sony killed it.

I am leaning towards WoW, EVE or Planetside.

WoW seems to have ppl leaving the game in droves.

I dont know much about EVE or Planetside, I need to do some research.

  • A Tale in the Desert was the single most surprising MMORPG I've ever played. It's actually fun, and I stuck around for a while and had a blast doing it. And yes, the people are incredibly nice, that was half the reason for playing. I do love that game, but unfortunately my bloodlust gets the better of me and I just had to move on. I did not expect to like the game, but it is tremendously well designed and supported, and I freely recomend at least the free trial to anyone, even if you think you don't like games without combat.

EVE Online is one of the greatest games I've ever played. It's true that it is very strange compared to other games, since the entire game focuses on ships and not physical characters. However, the scope of the game is incredible. Its PvP actually means something, it has genuine politics, and the economic model is stunning. Best of all, the real people turning the gears are the players themselves. Eve's designers created a world that feels genuine and runs on its own. They keep npc politics and development interesting, but the real draw is the system that allows players to do so very much.

I'll give an honorable mention to Earth and Beyond, since it no longer exists. It was truly one of the most outright 'fun' games I've ever played. It wasn't sophisticated in the way EVE is, but that was okay. The whole game was tremendous fun, filled with humor and wonderful vision. The game truly rewarded exploration, and its mysteries were very interesting from a sci-fi perspective. I still lament that I do not know what exactly the V'rixx were really all about.

Yes EQ was a cool game but I dont think im gonna agree it sucked after PoP. Anyways the game I would get is EQ2. This game is awesome with great graphics and awesome gameplay. This game will make you wanna play more MMORPG's like GW. So try more stuff is what I would stay but start out with EQ2 and if you have a slow computer I would get EQ2, you need a decent computer.imageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimageimage

If you liked EQ you might like EQ2, but not guarenteed. Most of my 150+ member EQ2 guild played EQ1 or EQOA.

Schutzbar - Human Warrior - Windrunner Alliance - World of Warcraft
Nihilanth - Kerra Paladin - Blackburrow - EverQuest II
    XBL Gamertag - Eagle15GT

I have narrowed it down to EQ2 or planetside.

Anyone out there played both?  Pros and Cons please

imageWoW is fun. But I don't believe it is for you. You can solo the whole way through if you wish. In my opinion, the game will not last for long and will not give you that magic feeling.

I would recommend EvE Online, Final Fantasy XI, or possibly even EverQuest II.

EvE Online- EvE has an awesome community. It was not for me, but I could tell it could be an amazingly amazing game at times.  When My freind started out, someone helped him right from the start. The person baught him a new ship ( You heard right, a new ship!), invited him into his corp, and help him with the other basics. Anyway, it has wonderful longevity.

Final Fantasy XI- I am personally at hime with this game. I have been playing since the release on PS2 in late March 2004 and am only lvl 31/75 with a lot to learn. You can be any job with one character and switch whenever you want. The community has its jerks, but so do all. There is a mentor program where a newby can seek help. I am a mentor and help all the time. Yes, the economy is very inflated. Gil can be a problem at times. Other than those problems, FFXI has amazing depth in both stroy line and player interaction. But well what do you expect, it's Square Enix.

EverQuest II- Maybe this will be for you. Many have complained that it is nothing like the original EverQuest and that it is to hard, but it is all in a certain point of view. I play it from time to time, the game has a nice feel to it. A true fantasy feel.

Good luck with whatever you chooseimage!

Can someone please make me a sig. I would like it to have something to do with an eagle(the bird) Somewhere near the eagle can you put the words "Global Defense Initiative". Could you also have the line "If you can't buff up, don't step up!". Thanks!

    Private Message me about it!

Nothing out there is comperable to old EQ. I am playing DAoC right now and having fun, but it still isn't comperable to EQ. There will be a game out next year though that will (hopefully) bring back the EQ magic, the challenge, and THE VISION.
