For me Pantheon will be a worthwhile time sink, here is why :
Way back in 1985 I had an acquaintance that was taking on too many responsibilities. With him I and several friends, we were all younger and in the military. Well, along with a full time job he decided to buy a house at a temporary duty station and later decided to take on several collage courses. While attending this school he wrote a term paper called " not enough time in a day " or something like that. Before turning it in, he asked one of my friends to read it with me standing next to them. After the read my friend gave a big smile and stated " Jeff, this is bull shit ! ". There is a lot of time in a day, you just can't handle the stress and you manage your time poorly.
For me, this was one of the more profound statements as the age of twenty and still is today. Since then I've kept this in the back of my mind, subconsciously monitoring my time and how I and everyone uses it.
Well I play video games. I've played both good and bad ones. I never felt guilty and considered them a waste of time UNLESS THEY WERE BAD. Now going deeper I play mmos. For me they are time sinks to an even higher degree.
Bad mmos are many, and that is all we had in the last several years. There like general purpose video games with others online. I've played so many newer mmos only to say three weeks later " this game sucks ". I WASTED MY TIME, I actually feel guilty.
MMOs today are designed with 30 days of content. For me mmos are made with slower duller progression, but what makes up for this would be " community " and " virtual world ". Neither community or virtual world are in newer mmos, and leaves slower duller progression, nothing left after three weeks after the romance is lifted.
Pantheon. This game restores my faith in a community based virtual worlds. I'll finally get another shot at day dreaming my plans as I'm working hard. What direction I'll go in a sandbox type, do as you feel mmo. NOTHING SCRIPTED BY DEVELOPERS. No pre determined mindless path telling me what others think I should like. I'll be given lore and it will be up to me run with it.......I'll not feel guilty unless I neglect my responsibilities, this is my entertainment, my downtime that replaces TV and all it's shampoo adds.
A little more on time :
Would a time sync mmo be ok for someone with full responsibilities ? What about the wife and kids and school and gym and family and friends ?
How about moderation ?......Who is saying all or nothing ?.....What compels you to rush ?.....If you have ten kids, well you can't play anything !
I have a good friend that loves video games ( family man ). He once told me, don't needlessly burn out. Try not playing even when you feel like being obsessive. This works !!!!
If Pantheon is an mmo like I think it is, built for years, try and not finish in two weeks just to teach us that it can be done. Instead, turn off your computer and seek help
And yes, I have an extremely full active life. In fact its 6 am in the morning as I'm typing now, just so I don't missing anything.

I have a full life, yet I love deep rich mmos.
With this, I tend to play with controlling my own destiny. I'll admit, I don't allow myself to get sucked into raid guilds. " everyone on at 9pm or your out ".
Instead I work off a friends list. Most are like minded dungeon crawlers that are not obnoxious.
If they play more obsessively than I, well they out level me and I find more friends.
If I decide to take two months off, well, I make more friends quickly, by running dungeons and adding players if I like their style. Or I'll simply use the social panel to find someone doing what I like and say "hay can I help".
The trick to this is to play with them and not think what's in it for me. Just help them finish their stuff !....Time is on my side, I don't always need the xp.
Interestingly, if you stare at a tv for 5 hours you are an average American. But if you play a video game that much people look at you funny.
EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests
That was until WoW became really popular and now those people call themselves gamers and the like while they play a game that requires the attention and intelligence of a brain dead boob watching TV. Now it is "cool" apparently! /facepalm
