What is the nicest thing someone did for you in MMO?

Hello, i recollected few moments  that happened to me durring my time in online gaming, which cant ever be forgotten.

Yes, there were even several times when players i know, or random players gave me all of their gear or gold, but that only made me leave the game faster, and provided tipping point of them not to return to the game, im talking more of some other situations.


As stated i've played Freelancer Discovery Online, and almost right after i started and bought my first space ship ,went into orbit, and yelled "Universe ,here i come!" someone transfered me considerable amount of credits so that i could buy a better ship, saying "You cant possibly hope to survive in that, can you "

After that i did go into the darkest parts of the universe eventually wandering into corsair territory. Once i went through the jumphole, dozens if not more, ships and battleships alike appeared right in front of me preparing to do some kind of invasion. They didnt attack me, instead sent a squadron to escort me out and asked me politely not to speak of their plans

But definitelly ,the nicest thing someone had possibly done for me happened in RF Online.
Game very dependant on leveling, and incredibly slow to progress, i mean it takes about 3-6 months to level a character to the max server level, and by that time ,you are moved to another server ,where you continue to level xD

So, we had random groups and guildies to ease and speed up the process, where high lvl players would help lowbies for about an 1-2h daily.
But one day, it was ,different.

I went to sleep leaving my character online saying to them that it doesnt matter if i die by the mobs, i have gained enough as it is, thanked them and went to sleep.
Tommorow i was in a rush to go to school so i didnt have the time to check what happened, and the game simply continued to run with me oblivious to what was going on. Later in the evening, almost 1 full day after ,when i finally reached my free time and was eager to continue where i left off something curious happened.

Feeling bad how they would leave us lowbies to die by the mobs or in pvp, those people, not even all of them guildies, decided to stand ground and take turns spending all of their ingame time, protecting us and farming nearby monsters to boost our exp.
What i saw than was an incredible increase in levels, that would normally for me take weeks to accomplish, my and other low characters standing surrounded by these giants of people, holding ground and sacrificing their potential improvement, for the sake of other.

Later that evening they said it was not a big deal, and that they were eager to see us all in instances together working as one for the benefit of our guilds and making our faction stronger and a better place to be in and fight for.


I can forget top 10 players in games i played, richest ones i've met ,the ones with the most cool looking gear,
but what happened that day,
THOSE PEOPLE WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN !

This wasn't a MMO and wasn't the nicest thing BUT something that stands out for me the most in any multiplayer game was in DayZ Mod... I had just spawned in, nothing on me but the clothes on my back, I'm running through a field trying to avoid Zombies when all of a sudden a Chopper comes up behind me and lands in the field next to me. A Group of 5 or 6 players all jump out completely decked out in gear and surround me. They kidnap me at gun point and force me into their chopper... First and only time being kidnapped in any game! It was a great RP experience!

I don't think i could nail it down to one,i had lots of pleasant things done that made me think kindly of community.
I can say this,you won't see many good things in these single player game designs.I ran into more friendly people playing Unreal a fps and usually fps are anger and hostility than i would in any fake mmo.

Nothing like picking a fight with a monster that's way beyond your level and having a group of players appear out of nowhere to help you out.  Or being new in a game and the trade request window opens and getting some really great gear or weapon.  I've heard of it but have never had anyone give me all their stuff before leaving a game.

I had someone hold my hand as i stepped up into a higher level of raiding. They didnt teach me, they encouraged me to teach myself.

Some pirates in EVE giving me 500mil isk after blowing up my mining ship.   10/10 would get blown by pirates again!

I've had people give me gold or gear without asking. A funny one was a guy gave me a full set of gear that my character class couldn't even use. I held it in storage for a week and finally was able to give it back to him. I could have sold it for alot of gold but that would be so wrong.

I do not like people giving me stuff in an MMO. It feels like cheating the game mechanic as its intended.

Happened again later twice, with friends in Star Wars Galaxies and Lord of the Rings (Herr der Ringe) Online ... and those two pairs DID marry for real (one in USA, one in Germany).

Guild helping me with Cleric Epic (Water Sprinkler), should point out I wasn't in guild. Just a friend of someone that was in guild. Knew her and her husband from UO.

This was in EQ2, I was on a lowbie alt just sitting in the city browsing for guilds when someone opens a trade window and hands me 40 plat.  They said they were quitting and had a gift for me.  I've also had numerous drive-by buffs and heals in Everquest.

In EVE, guy I met when I was a little newb showed me how to place interdiction spheres in order to pull people out of warp and trap them. Many a years spent podding, robbing and destroying people with mobile disruption bubbles.

Teach a man to fish I guess.

Ppl in general do post theyll quit ,sometimes even more subtle than you think, on chat, often in late hours, and if you react fast ,you might see.

Them giving away their gear is pretty bad, maybe they have a good reason to leave, but in most cases, "cheating" your way to the top feels wrong trust me, it made me want to quit too for i skipped what i should had enjoyed getting.

I'd say the nicest thing someone has ever done for me, is just be there to talk to me when I've needed it. I'm sure a lot of other MMO players will know exactly what I mean when reading this. When you have in-game friends who "see" you and talk to you on a regular basis, they'll often know what you're up to in your "irl" life. Good or bad, sometimes it's nice to have people other than "irl" family/friends who will ask you how your day has been, or ask you about important events that they know are coming up.

I've also been offered in-game items and money many times. Which is always nice when you know how hard they've worked for it!

In SWG you had to have other players teach you the languages.  It was nice to see players going around and training you in all those languages without asking anything in return.  Nice game mechanic that encouraged socialization.

I friend of mine in Asheron's Call sent me an old GPU that he had lying around when mine went out. It was actually a lot better than the stock GPU in the computer I had at the time.

EQ also had this.

It was fun RP in some ways as it meant certain races could talk in their own language and keep you out of the loop (unless someone of that race taught you).  The common tongue was the main language.

I agree.  I've  learned that the journey is often more important then the final destination in gaming.  

The difference was games like EQ equipment was fairly scarce and didn't give you much of boost.  It might give you one or two more damage, give you a few more AC, or far more rarely you might even get a +1 or +2 to a stat.  If someone gave you some equipment it would be a useful gift that wouldn't come anywhere close to making you overpowered.  I think if you are concerned about the journey the equipment should be a lesser goal to worry about then just exploring and meeting up with other people in game.

I agree.  I've  learned that the journey is often more important then the final destination in gaming.  

This , and i think by returning the relevance to leveling, making it less borring,slower-paced, players would be more present in all parts of open world, and cherish goals like resource and worldboss pvp, allies, guildmates, and simply enjoy far ends of the maps ,opposed to rushing towards endgame to do that 1 dungeons over and over again.

For once you do what you want, once you reach your goal, in most parts ,you feel empty, but reaching it step by step every day, going up that road and fighting for it, is what makes it incredible.
