Hello.
I am a avid mmorpg player and have been playing for some years.
And i just got my dirty little paws on some cash and figured i would buy myself a mmorpg.
But i am in a bit of situation here.. should i buy guild wars or world of warcraft?
Some ppl have been saying its like diablo.. and well that sounds bad in my ears but
the screenshots look insanely good graphic wise. (not to mention its free to play)
Anarchy Online & EQ would be amongst my favorates...
Please no flaming or stupid comments.. just your honest opinion.
Thank you.

you can't possible compare those two since Guild Wars isn't an mmorpg. if your planning to put a lot of time in your game, pick WoW. if you plan to play only about an hour a day, pick Guild Wars.
double post, damn sorry
Ah then i must of read wrong somewhere about guild wars lol
I was certain it was a mmorpg
Thanks for a promptly response
ok im notm uch of a WoW fan but i have been playing it and guild wars alot latley and guild wars gets boring quick. hteres alot of people that wont party iwth you they just act like asses. you iwll find that too in wow but in wow you have alot more choices hten in guild wars and in wow yo ucan also use some tradeskills and atleast theres different races and some other stuff to do.
You honestly could play them both if you so choose to. GW you can play at your own pace which is nice, no need to worry about getting behind and there is no cost other than buying the game. Guild Wars is not meant to be played like you would a MMO. So if you are looking for a traditional style MMO, I would pick up WoW if you only have the $$$ for one game.
I am not a big fan of WoW but it is not a bad game, and you will get at least 3-5 months at minimum of fun game play, longer if you are a causal gamer.
I would pick up both of them.
my honest opinion is option #3
I've tried both, although i put a lot more time into GW than WoW, but that was purely graphical... couldn't stand WoW's style, didn't seem a bad game though... anyway GW like someone said can get boring if you put a lot of time into it and exect it to play like any other mmorp out there. i dont like saying this sorta thing, but GW feels a lot like diablo in more ways than its point and click style of RPG... the towns and cities are more like graphical lobbies, where you can group up before going into the game. dont get me wrong, its fun, but thats why we have so manyarguments over "its not a MMORPG"
personally im hooked on EQ2, it has its flaws, but im having fun.
my advice to you though would be to get some free trials downloaded before you blow you cash on a whim. saga of ryzom is worth checking out, and has a free trial, so does EQ2 (its free trial kinda sucks comapred with most other games though), EVE online also.
i've said it before to other people, but its worth repeating... if you can state what you want from a game, how you want to spend your time in game... etc then people that want similar things to you can relate to you with what game they play... better chance of you finding a game that suits you that way.
This has to be one of the most straight forward and easy calls to make in mmorpg gaming. WoW is a game of leveling, aquiring gear, and getting in the best guild to aquire the best gear. PvP is an afterthought at best, and yes the graphics are cartoony.
Guild Wars is not about leveling, yours and your opponents gear is going to be exactly the same no matter how much you play, and joining a guild is completely unnecessary unless you want to create a standing PvP team.
I had a level 60 on WoW before I quit, and Ive been playing Guild Wars quite a bit since it was released. I find Guild Wars to be much more entertaining, not to mention the superior graphics. You need to have some real skill to be good at Guild Wars. The better PvP teams all use teamspeak as the pace is too quick to do otherwise. Compare this with the fact that my dog could get level 60 on WoW in a couple weeks and you have a very large difference in gaming style indeed.
If your focus is like mine and you prefer to compete against other people then definately go with Guild Wars. If you were a big fan of Everquest and know thats what you like then try WoW.
Personally I found WOW shallow and GuildWars may not have a subscription fee but watchout for the price of those expansions that you'll need to stay competitive. (Trust me on this, the ONLY way they're going to make money on this game is sales of expansions).
I prefer a lot of depth to an MMO with a great deal of customization, roleplay, variety of things to do and, most importantly, a skill based, non-linear progression for my character. For those reasons I enjoy SWG most of all current MMO's available.
But if I had to pick WOW or GuildWars I'd go with WOW.
Personally I Think EQ2 is a little better than WOW, however. But I'm biassed since I play EQ2, essentially, for free with my SOE All Access Pass that I have for SWG and PlanetSide.
