DI2 is being moved to another developer since Yager got pulled off the project. It will likely still come out, but we'll have to see if it hits its 2016 release.

Dwarves are quite possibly my favorite fantasy race of all time. Glad to see them getting another game.

Agreed! @MikeB hate's them, but he's WRONG. There's no opinion to the contrary, period. :pleased:

That said, I really hope the game turns out stellar.

I did not realise that The Dwarves was based on the book of the same name.

Sadly, the book was extremely linear and predictable and the main character, Tungdil, wasn't particularly interesting. Never the less, Dwarves kick ass so here's hoping an open world RPG will be more engaging than the books.

Now, if only someone could get orcs right....

Some look OK, but even so its more anecdotal evidence that MMOs are dead. More companies are focusing on RPGs, many of them are decent, and are simply a better option for these companies to make a profit.

Not to mention theyre multi platform and despite platform they can be multiplayer. So it does scratch the MMO itch. Especially since most MMOs players these days play solo and just like having a chat feature and an AH to sell junk they collect or make.

Generally graphics are much better and performance isnt usually an issue either. And more and more are incorporating the features MMOs layers want to see in their games.

And an irony of a lot of RPG games is despite them being 'close ended' a lot of people have more time invested in them than most MMOs they try out. Especially if the RPG has multiple options and/or endings. Even in RPGs where you play a specific character and not your own player made avatar.

Funny thing to me is games like DIvinity:OS, have far more multi-player functionality as well as innovation than the genre devoted to multiplayer play. From the Co-op dialogue, to the way in which skill sets play together, nothing in the MMO scene has taken things that far in terms of player to player functionality. D:OS2 promises even more innovation in these departments, especially with the way they plan to work in character backgrounds and motivations tied to them.

RECORE , Has sparked my interest, no pun. Does it not count as an rpg? I seem to think it should.

Pillars of Eternity: The second part of the White Marsh Expansion comes out soon as well. Not a new game, just an expansion, but one of the best RPG games out there.

Following are the games I look forward to in the near futre and dates given by the developer.

    Dragon's dogma january 15th
Darkest dungeon full release january 19th
    xcom 2 february 5th.
    Grim dawn in february
    Dark souls 3 april 12th.

Also hoping for divinity OS 2 and kingdom come but those will take a while. Feeling skeptical regarding mass effect andromeda after bioware butchered dragon age.

Is it just me or have a lot of these "upcoming" games been out for quite some time...like Grim Dawn has been out since 2013 and Darkest Dungeon has been available on Steam for like 8 months or something.

They've been out in Early Access, true. But this is their "official" launch year.

That's fair. Good article, I learned about some interesting games I'd never heard of before too!

So, first we start seeing non MMO's and now we're getting console games? WTF is going on with this site?

Maybe it's time the site just admitted defeat and renamed itself to something more appropriate because it's obvious that MMO's are no longer the focus.

So excited for the Mass Effect: Andromeda. Have to look more on that Dragon's dogma if it ends up interesting.

It's already been out for quite a while on console, it's a solid game.

That already happened when they started covering RPGs and other games. Is it their fault great games are being released to console? Are we supposed to pretend not to like those? Do you want them publicly flogged for trying to stay relevant?
No, I think the site name used to be relevant and representitive of the games they used to cover years ago but not any more.

If they want to cover a wider spread of games, more genres and additional platforms that aren't the usual home of MMORPG's then perhaps a more suitable name would reflect better what the site is about now.

Let's face it, most of the games being covered here are not MMO's and it's been that way for a long time. "All Things RPG" would probably be closer to the truth.

On another note, I don't pretend anything about consoles, they're like giving in to the Dark Side.

Will you people just STOP already? They've been covering other stuff for over a year. Get over it or go somewhere else. At the very least, stop posting this whiny crap.

Dragon's Dogma was great, but I'll probably wait and see how the PC port is. Got burned on a couple of crap ports last year, and I'm done buying them at release. Bombshell also looks interesting, but I'll wait for reviews on that as well.

Other than that, not much interesting. I backed Numenara and Darkest Dungeon, but I regret doing so on both. Numenara mostly because while it looks like a good game, it's not really the type of game I normally enjoy. Maybe I'm wrong, but with scripted combat and the like, it's really just a glorified point and click adventure game.

I haven't touched Darkest Dungeon for a few months, but last time I did it was a hot mess. Characters completely freak out over the tiniest crap, dungeons are linear with little exploration and exist only as a series of monster-filled rooms, and the difficulty of the game comes mostly from obtuse mechanics which make the game a chore to slog through. It wasn't a good game at all. I'll give it another chance at release though.

Nope, I'll post whatever I like, thanks very much. I come to MMORPG.COM to see news about, erm let me think, MMORPG's. Fuck me, there's a surprise.

I don't come here to read about single player games, FPS games, Flight Sims, Multiplayer games that pretend to be MMO's or console games.

As long as I'm allowed to express an opinion I reserve the right to do just that. If that opinion just happens to be about the name of this site no longer reflecting the games it's reporting about then guess what? I'm gonna express it.

I was playing some Grim Dawn last night before I went to bed, pretty fun stuff. I still think the whole UI is weird though.

I really like how Diablo 3 did their UI, or even PoE to some extent.

And a bad UI makes or breaks a game for me.
