Kingdom Games has put out a nifty ARPG called FIVE: Guardians of David that sits squarely in the style of Diablo, Torchlight and Titan Quest. While those games boast evil denizens of the underworld or mythological underpinnings, FIVE puts a new spin on ARPGs with its foundation in the Bible, namely in the Old Testament stories of David, of Goliath fame.

Looks pretty cool. Love a good ARPG. Which I hope it is.

    It IS an action RPG!

I hope not. We don't have discussions about demon worship when speaking about Diablo and this game categorically does NOT preach at players. It's a fun historically-based ARPG with largely optional Biblical text.

im really wondering why mmorpg has not looked at grim dawn yet?

Its a much better arpg than even diablo 3, and its not mentioned on mmorpg ?

As much as I enjoy reading a text Bible or interactive software-based Bible, I've been wanting to play an actual video game based on it.

Arpg's aren't my thing, but I do like the idea of a biblical time period influenced rpg. We have one about everything under the sun, and the time period which the Bible was written is full of wonder for us to dream about, even if we don't take it literally.

We will be! This game is a released product with Grim Dawn heading that way soon. Look for a review in the next couple months.

You mean Goliath right? He was defending his lands against invaders who would destroy his people.

My issue is I asked on the steam forum prior to release if there was character mechanical customization/progression. They said yes, which I absolutely need to be remotely interested in game. I figured at the worst it would be rpg-lite, but there was absolutely none. So I refunded. I really love the new refund policy as it doesn't matter what lies developers tell, like with Sword Coast Legends. We can buy and see for ourselves and have two hours to figure out if the game is for us or get a full refund reasonably fast.

And it didn't take long for that. The Philistine empire was very kind to the nations it subjugated and the people it enslaved. Darth Vader was just trying to defend the Empire from those rebel terrorists. :dizzy: :D

You have your history backwards. Look at what happened to the Cannites and the Midians. It was the ancient Israelites who were the Empire in your analogy. Unless you think genocide and sex slavery are moral.

Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him. But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves. Numbers 31:7, 16-17

The Philistines were right to defend themselves against such monsters.

King David based game, definitely has my interest.

Here is a good book if you find that you enjoy the stories about David, this book is an accurate depiction of his life. Quite an interesting person and a realistic character from the bible whom many would easily identify with.

I was immersed into this book and I am not much for reading books, but this book had me. When/if you read it, just imagine being in his shoe/sandals :-)

Great! No such thing as too many ARPG's seeing the sad state of the mmo market at the moment (Here's hoping for Black Desert). Still working my way through TW3, Grim Dawn and Titan Quest so will probably wait for a summer sale.
I've always had an interest in Greek and Egyptian mythology so games like this and TQ are most welcome.

    Fully agree.

The setting looks interesting, but I wonder if the RPG elements are strong enough to warrant a buy?

Diablo is also loosely based on religious text (Book of Revelations) but no one bitches about that. I for one am excited to see more games based on biblical references. It's a great source to pull material from for RPGs.

"The Society that separates its scholars from its warriors will have its thinking done by cowards and its fighting by fools."
