Need Gaming laptop aprox 900$

filmoretfilmoret Member EpicPosts: 4,906

I'm looking at the gaming laptops and I cant figure out if they will run the newer games like Witcher 3.  I only have around 900$ to spend so I have been looking around and this is what I found.  The graphics cards don't look like they can handle the newer games but i don't know much about this so any help will be appreciated.  Thank you.

For a gaming laptop, you definitely need a dedicated GPU in there, and the 940m is, a bit naff imo, a 950m or an 860m would be a far better option, an i7 is probably wasted, as you'd be limited to medium settings on games just to get 30 fps and probably struggle even then, its not really a good option for a laptop thats going to be used for gaming.

I found two sites that give me a lot of information about cpu's and gpu's.  It helped me look at numbers and make a better choice.  That laptop I was looking at will barely run Witcher 3 at lowest settings.

This other site was awesome giving me an idea of what laptop graphics card will do with what game.

Ok want to update for anyone interested.   I found this site with laptops that are 400-500$ cheaper then bestbuy and Dell.  Same specs and you can either get them brand new or refurbished or open box.  I'd suggest brand new because open box is iffy.

Let's start with the obvious question:  why do you need a gaming laptop?  How are you going to use it?  And why wouldn't a desktop work for you?  You can get a nice gaming desktop for $900, but not a laptop.

100% this.  You can play older games on a gaming laptop but anything newer is going to struggle no matter what you do.  Laptops are not built for gaming unless you are willing to pay out the noise for one.

I was actually looking for a prebuilt desktop for that price. Any suggestions?

I'd suggest starting your own thread rather than derailing someone else's.

Some questions to answer on your own thread, though:

    1)  What does it need?  Just the case and everything that goes inside?  Or do you also need new peripherals (monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, surge protector)?

    2)  What does "prebuilt" mean to you?  Does that mean you're not willing to use a screwdriver to assemble it yourself?  How about buying from a site that lets you pick exact parts and then assembles the computer for you and ships it to you?  Building it yourself typically lets you stretch your budget about 20% further or so.

Sorry, didn't mean to derail the thread. Just saw you mentioned that you could one for around 900 so I was wondering if you had a site(s) in mind.

    Hi Filmoret,
I personally prefer buying from bestbuy.com, but also amazon is my priory for purchasing.  I was searching on gaming laptops under $900 and found this forum. May be you can get anything useful from this list listed here for gaming laptops.

Now this response has got me wondering.  It is obviously automated.  So there are programs out there searching for stuff in forums and tagging them then creating accounts.  Man to think this entire response and account was automated.  That is some excellent programming.
