@GeezerGamer Exactly my thoughts, I'll probably pick up WoW. I'm also interested in its lore^^
WoW certainly has that, in abundance.
However, the other two I mentioned don't exactly fall short in that category either. But for lore and content as well as smooth game play and class balance, I think WoW has them beat. WoW also has them bead hands down in the area of play style options for healers. All of which can play other roles too.
I did try my hand a being a raid healer for a little while back in the Wrath expansion. That was as a Shaman. It was a solid healer and had some very interesting mechanics. Excellent as a PVP healer too. It also had 2 options for DPS besides healing. Melee and ranged caster DPS. And while the melee DPS builds were IMO some of the most fun mechanics to play with, that build has been up and down as far as effectiveness in the game....mostly down.
@Jean-Luc_Picard would probably be in a much better position to recommend which class based on what you are looking for. There are always the forums too. There are almost always threads on people asking "What class should I play"?
Cool. Am thinking of priest, but I'll also check out some youtube videos. As for its lore, is there a list or anything similar on what to read in orderto understand the story behind the game? Thanks!
The downside to SWTOR is that everyone gets a companion character (like a pet), meaning you can solo most of the content. Hence, you won't really get to support people most of the time.
Only when it comes to solo content and small scale group stuff. Healers are VERY much desired in warzones (PvP) and the team who has some is often the one that wins (for obvious reasons). Similarly they are very much a requirement for hard mode flashpoints (dungeons) and operations (raids).

Too bad you missed out trying Vanguard healers. They were by far the most combat active healing mechanics I've yet to experience in an MMO. They didn't stare at health bars, they healed by engaging in combat, especially the Blood Mage and Disciple and to a lesser extent, Cleric and Shaman.
I take that back, the Disciple of Khaine and Warrior Priest from Warhammer Online were also very combat active healers.
ESO is a very specific game experience - you'll have to decide for yourself if you'd enjoy the game. It is quite similar to single player RPGs, which is why I actually enjoyed that one playing solo. It does not feel awkward going through the content on your own. In many other MMOs, the questing feels like a filler between the fun stuff. ESO was the opposite, which was a nice change. ESO also lets you mix and match skills, meaning you can be half healer half fighter - quite useful if you're on your own.
Just want to expand on this a bit.
Healers in ESO are essential in both PVE and PVP... much more so than tanks since in a way, everyone has to tank a bit because the aggro mechanics are soft and most bosses have special attacks that either go after everyone or a random group member. Adds are hard for a tank to aggro and hold. There is no "tank and spank" in this game.
But a party without a healer just can't make it very far in dungeons or in PVP.
It's also very easy to have skills for different situations and swap them in and out of your 12 skills you can use whenever you're not in combat. By the time you get into your high teens you'll have enough skill points to have different skill load-outs for different situations: solo PVE, group PVE as DPS, group PVE as a healer and group PVE as a tank as well as any role you want for PVP. You can only use 12 skills at a time (10 regular ones and 2 "ultimate" skills) but most players have skilled and can use 20 or 30 active skills plus passives. No need to ever feel like you've gimped yourself for other things just because you want to play as a dungeon healer.

I honestly don't know. I picked up Lore over the years by playing. I think WoWWikki might do a good job of expanding in-game history
Am I the only one who's gonna mention Rift or even likes Rift for the fact that any class can play any role including healer?! To many people mentioning the same games such as WoW in this thread >_>

On wow you are all healing, on Tera you are a lot more active.
