While I agree with you that f2p doesn't make a game better, the cartooney art design was not the issue.
Disagree a bit with this, the art design IMHO was a big problem for many people. It clearly was not the main reason this game struggling, but it contributes and remains an issue for many players.
People have issue for many reason is like any mmo out there. But the Art Design it's was less contributes as WoW Art Design very small % of the problem but not close to add the contributes problem of the game to keep there player base.
If it all ends ? The gaming world learnt a valuable lesson, the majority of today's players are not capable of doing, and don't want content they can't face roll
So fans think that it may continue operating? Not a chance those doors will shut soon. Sadly the potential was there it was just kind of ajumbled mess for myself.
People don't seem to get the basics of this, Wildstar cost a ton of money to make but not anywhere near as much to run.
Why would they shut it down when they can run it cheaply and make some profits? Sure it's not a massive success but some money > none.
They only close games down if there is a reason, as in competing with their own new titles or the profits are so laughably low that it costs money to run. That would be impossible with wildstar, it has enough players to sustain itself.

The only problem with Wildstar is that it should have been F2P from the beggining.
I think they should have tried something new and went with say three price-tags for different packages. Something like 6,99 -> 9,99 ->12,99 from basic login incl. one character slot to full premium.
I am going to create a brainwashing machine that directly links a persons fun factor to how much money they are giving me. that would be awesome. (hidden meaning in that)
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
