Roleplaying an Evil Character..

Just curious as to what you guys think about this..

I've been thinking about hopping back into EQ2 in the next couple of weeks, but on one of the RP servers. I've also decided to play one of the evil races, just for a change of pace from my usual.

Thing is, I'm not sure how to go about roleplaying an evil character without alienating myself from other players. I mean, I suppose you could constantly send whispers or tells to people letting them know that you're just roleplaying and not really a jerk, but it seems that would get tedious real fast. I wouldn't mind rping an evil character..I just don't want it to have a negative social impact on me in the game (as in finding groups, etc.).

This is coming from someone who is no stranger to RP as far as pen and paper goes, but I haven't really done any of it in an MMORPG. Basically I'm just wondering how playing an evil character would work in the MMO ettiquette sense...

    Im not sure if you know this or not, but there is a command (forgot what it is srry) that lets others know that you are role playing. It puts the words "Role Playing" in purple over your characters name. Hopefully when you do RP, people realize that you actually ARE RP'ing instead of being a jerk :)

    EDIT: I looked up the command. All you need to do is type   /role   while in the game :)

    I would think if you 1) have /role activated and 2) make sure if you decide to pick on someone, make it something about their in-game race so they know your referring to their character. Make it blatantly obvious that its their character and not them. Helps if they are a non-human, I'd think.

    Thanks for the responses. I'm not necessarily looking to play a total jerk, but someone who is not exactly personable, and generally distrusting of others.

    PLEASE SOE MAKE A CLASSIC EQ SERVER. Shadow of luclin was a prick in EQs side. PoP Was a gun to the face.

    Don't forget you could start off as a good guy and betray Qeynos and head to Freeport via the Betrayal quest.  You could easily work in RP-wise any race to being evil. Just thought I would mention that, so you wouldn't limit yourself to jsut the evil races. I had alot of fun starting off as a high elf healer, then slowly but surely turning evil, betraying Qeynos and taking my place in Freeport as a Inquisitor. And I RP'd quite a bit during the betrayal period, it was alot of fun. So much so that I took an evil race and went the other way to Qeynos. Now I have a Dark Elf Monk. And RP'd the whole way.

    Anyway its just a suggestion.

    Hmm..thanks for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind =)
