imageAlleged Former Employees Describe Flawed Development

The bad news for WildStar keeps piling in. Following on from news of an atrocious financial forecast from Korean investment firm KDB Daewoo Securities, alleged former employees of Carbine Studios have been recounting their own experiences in a NeoGAF thread, including accusations of inexperienced management and significantly flawed development procedures.

I remember when so many people I knew bailed from ESO 4 months after launch to go play this. I'm glad I didn't succumb to the hype and never wasted any time/money on this product. The biggest problem with so much mmo development is "human error" if only there was a way to cut us out of the picture lol.

If they put their names - they'd never get hired by any game company again. Game companies are very incestuous - publicly they are competitive but privately they are a very tight knit industry as devs and employees end up working at many different game companies over time.

Everyone knows everyone in the gaming biz, and nobody likes a whistle blower.
This is very true for the art team since they pretty much just do costumes and vanity stuff, so they're mostly freelancers.

The state of this game is a bigger testament to 'flawed development" than any outcry from former employees could ever be.

Then you keep your Fin mouth shut .. .. So apparently a tight knit industry of cowards ... And i call BS there are people out there that would think more of a person that stands in front of there statements .. Just like any other industry ...

Well long story short....rushed games, poor directors/producers pretty much what ive been saying about all these games.

Look at Semdely, the guy is out a month or two and already has an entire game designed planned out?ROFLMAO ...IMPOSSIBLE.I believe i read within the first month of leaving DB he already had a new game studio.

All these devs see one idea then auto think "Lets make a game".
Only part i don't agree with is the term "experience".Just look at this situation,IF we are to believe all is correct, then this management team can claim they are experienced,so they go to start another game project and all is the same mess.
Whomever is the main guy in charge, the money guy,he needs to sit down with his chiefs of staff and lay out the entire operation, this shoudl take several months to properly plan outan entire design.

Geesh how long does it take for a writer to write his book, year or two? Then these devs think they can spend 1 week and have an entire game planned out with story and systems pfftt they are all amateurs in my book.

LOL don't get me started on Blizzard,i cringe like seriously cringe when i hear some idiot like Reynad for example make a statement "Blizzard are the best game designers in the world" i just want to reach in and slap the dumbass. OH but former Blizzard devs made Torchlight...umm yeah amazing game .../not.

Blizzard needs to shut down so all these other dumbass developers quit copying bad ideas. That is what happens all these devs see Blizzard turning out low poly cartoon graphics over and over , they think it is acceptable.I don't want your 1990's technology, this is 2016 step up or stop making games.

Oh well maybe i'll reenter life in the year 2150,see some real game developers ,living in a bubble with low oxygen of course and eating food from a pill because everything else is irradiated :P.

Really? I give them until July, and that's being optimistic. They're a western developer published by NCSoft. I'm honestly surprised they've lasted this long, or were even given the opportunity to try a free to play business model before being shut down.

this is just another example game of free to play for western mmorpgs being on life support because of bad decisions and overall quality sucking. Rift EQ2 LOTR online the list goes on and on and into new years. About the only success story is SWTOR and that was literally a few seconds away from death when they went free to play. When are devs going to finally come to terms with their egos and accept that if your game is forced to go free to play its usually because it sucks not because everyone is cheap.

Technical and performance issues, game play features which turned out to be nothing but gimmicks, catering solely to super-hardcore raiders whilst alienating and acting in a condescending fashion to other kinds of players, combat amounting to a field of telegraphs to avoid, grindy and convoluted raid attunements... the list goes on. Turns out they should have put some of the money and effort they put into the (admittedly awesome) trailers for the game into the actual game itself.

Oh, and they signed with NCSoft, which views western developers as being somewhere between a cockroach and belly button lint in terms of worth.

It's like they've never worked out in the real world before.

The community manager that backed up some of the info publicly mentioned how it made him not want to work in the field anymore.  Probably why he was so open about it.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Typical of NCSoft products...after my experiences with Arenanet I decided I'd write off this set of companies entirely with their Nexon rules behind the scenes and series of hyped up media nonsense on the forefront. Typical. Can we say Atari ET all over again? Why yes yes we can.

Oh, please. Anyone in the industry knows that paper pusher execs are just as chicks**T to openly hand out pink slips. Half or more of the team come back to find their key cards are no longer valid, and they're lucky if they get to take one or two boxes of their belongings home. A little anonymous forum revenge is about all they have as an option after they slightly recover from the betrayal.

I liked the art liked the character of the game. The fun faded fast though mainly because there wasn't a playerbase left to do things with. I played the game for about a year and never even got to do a Warplot.

Management loves the code of silence. It means they can do pretty much what ever they want to employees and everyone will just take it. No Union oversite, everyone divided and on their own.
