Why does every Thempark MMO have a quest where you dig through poop?

As if it's not bad enough slogging through a linear quest-hub solo-centric themepark, I believe all of them have at least one quest where you have to dig through poop or collect poop.  It's borderline abusive!

It started with WoW- they have like 10 poop quests in the game.  OK, WoW can be kind of childish at times, that's fine, but it seems like literally every MMO since then has had at least one.

I'm playing Blade and Soul and yesterday, sure enough, I stumble on a quest to collect turds.

Why???

    Never seen one.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is bad.

Just played one in Blade and Soul like I mentioned.

Even Archeage has one and it's not a traditional themepark...

I honestly can't think of a single MMORPG I've played that didn't involve my hero, the supposed savior of the lands, at some point either digging through poop or collecting it.

Everyone's always complaining about these shitty Theme Parks.

I think the worst one was when you had to pick the berry out of crap in Nagrand and then you had to eat it to breath underwater.

But honestly, who writes this stuff? I can see some basement dweller holed up in some cubicle just sitting in there chuckling to himself as he makes this thinking he's funny as shit.

Complaining about a poop quest is 1/10.

Why do movies aimed at 8-10 year old boys tend to have ample poop jokes?  It's pretty clearly pandering to a specific demographic.

obviously its a poop fetish. Its why two girls one cup exists, there is a poop fetish epidemic on the loose. More and more people are enjoying poop. One day, there will be no science, and current religion will be replaced by the worship of poop. The amount of people with a poop fetish has increased by 2.8 percent world wide, which seems like a small number but is quite large when compared to billions of people alive today.

As for why poop and why its aimed at young boys? Obviously the increase in same sex has to do with this. Now I voted FOR it, since I don't care what people are into. Plus it helps control overpopulation. but...there are more men on men relationships...more poop fetishes...seems like they might coincide with each other. And young boys are increasingly finding themselves to either be a girl or/and into other men.

For me, I'm not into poop fetish. But I have no issues with people with a poop fetish. And it might seem like a joke, but its a serious statement by the developers, you just need to think deeply on it and get high to figure it out like I just did.

It's because in the end of the day, the journey of hero is sometimes about doing things that aren't so glamorous.  We all have poop in our lives we have to dig through once in awhile.

There was only one poop quest in BnS thankfully.

chuckling to himself as he makes this thinking he's funny as shit.

I see what you did there, buddy!

On topic:  I'd have the same complaints about TV shows.  Just about every TV series ever made has had some mindblowingly stupid episode that all other TV series before it has had.

Ex:  A man dreaming he's pregnant, fantasizing about being cowboys, women giving birth, etc.

And don't even get me started on that stupid infamous scream that is in basically every movie that ever gets made in the last 80 years ----  so lame.

Odd indeed. I can see a few, but hmm oh well. Some comedians do a lot of bathroom humor.

I think I'd rather go for the immature jokes compared to the overly serious and bland text in most cases.  A lot of times I'm reading through the quest and it reads like an old history book.  Then I start to fall asleep because it's not real history and I know that learning it is kind of pointless.  On the other hand lewd stuff will occasionally give me a little shock factor and wake me up.  I haven't really experienced the poop in WoW.  I played the game a lot for a few years so it must be something new.

There were a couple poop quests in Burning Crusade. There was that one with the felhound at the start of it too, iirc

I don't get why this has to be a thing either. Maybe it's some writer's sadistic fantasy, making people sift through or collect poop.

I always assumed every quest was about poop - but then again i stopped reading quest text after EQ1 and when games added ? Above npcs i never read a single quest.

Its been all poop questing for the last 10+ years with the exception of like 5 TSW quests that were actually worth reading.

Even games i love and play today with poop questing - i have never read a single word, i mean i click next next next and just move on.
I actually find the opposite.  Usually the quest text is rather plain, drawl, and devoid of humor.  It's usually fairly politically correct.  If there was some immaturity to it I might enjoy it.

The main problem is there are just too many quests in general and they are over too quickly.

Not really missing out on much. A lot of it is filler activities that don't actually have any bearing on, well, anything outside of statistical progress. Pretty much as fire and forget as they can make 'em.

If you have "never" read a single word you really don't know if the quests were good or not.

Ok,  so there's about 10 quests in wow involving poop.   How many quest does wow have in total ?   It's a fraction of a percent of the quests that's about poop.  Not all quests can be about the same thing,  they have to try to keep them different.

Realy it's just a game.   It's just virtual poop.  What's the big deal.  It's no worse than all mmo's having a rat quest.

Poop quests are a subtle mockery that Adventurers will do anything - in addition to murder, theft, and genocide, for a few paltry coins and a marginal boost to experience where in real life we would turn our noses up and look down on those who dwell in the muck.

That would be a crime if it wasn't instanced in a themepark. Imagine if you only got one shot at it?

I'm waiting on developers to realize this trend and spin it on its head by creating a quest where, through misadventure, your character begins pooping uncontrollably and you have to fetch anti-diarrheal ingredients.

I don't recall poop gathering. Probably because I read didn't wow's quests. But what made me quit GW2 was a quest that made me feed bees to the cows. It was one of those "I'm too old for this shit" moments.

Because Jurassic Park did it.   And if something is epic enough for Jurassic Park, it's epic enough to copy and paste into a game.
