The Secret World question

rojoArcueidrojoArcueid Member EpicPosts: 10,722
I have not played TSW in a while, my highest "level" character is just right after Blue Mountains. I just saw that Steam has the game with all the issues (1-11) for $20 bucks. I rather get this sale and buy the game again with all the issues included (which i dont have) instead of buying all the separate issues.

My question is, if i buy the game on steam, can i link my old non-steam account and keep playing my characters?

I dont mind starting again since im not too far into the game but linking accounts would be nice.

Thanks.

Yes, you can, the game asks you to log-in to your Funcom account inside the game and you can enter any Funcom account, regardless of your steam account (they are not linked, just two separate accounts).

    REALITY CHECK

Ok, I'm like a broken record about steamy Gabe and his bloatware ( ), but in this case the counter-question is even more valid:
if your account is a non-steamy one, why on earth would you want to hassle with that lame webshop?

FC has a sale as well on the Ultimate edition, just go to your account page and you'll find the Upgrade version of the same deal - so no need to link it or anything, buying that will simply upgrade your account into an Ultimate edition (with the Issues up to Issue#11, and the extra fluff).

And if you'd say "but that's more expensive, since has the same price as the steamy one and it's only an upgrade instead of a full game", the upgrade has a box key included, which you can use for mule, or gifting away for a friend (that's a base game key, so only has the first four Issues).

    Thanks for both answers.

@Po_gg, the reason why i wanted the steam version is because of the sale that includes all the issues. It would be more expensive to get all the issues separate, but you say FC has the same deal on their site so im OK with that too.

As for steam itself, yeah, if i could by all my games physically (which i do on PS4 for most of my games) i would never touch steam. However, because mmo servers are bound to die some day, i really dont care where i get them digitally from.

Yep, usually if someone outside FC puts up a sale, they follow it with a similar discount. Not the exact same amount (just checked it on steamy site, it's cheaper than FC's by about 2 Euros), maybe because of the extra game key - I think there was a thread about linking steam version to existing account, and with that you only get the content unlock, so that way the base game part is "lost".

Purchasing through the account page you'll get the key separately, as stated at launch:

"Those who already own The Secret World and wish to buy the Ultimate Edition, can upgrade their current account with all the contents in this pack and will receive one extra copy of The Secret World base game. The extra copy key will be delivered through email."

That upgrade sounds more appealing so i can give the extra base game to a friend who wanted to check the game out too while i get all my dlc issues. Sounds good to me.

Man TSW is so interesting and fun when you're first starting it. I wish I could erase my memory and start it all over again. Beyond Funcom being the joke it is, it had the best questing I've ever played ever... EVER. Most interesting and cool story, EVER.

Have they changed the combat in secret world?  Something about the character development and combat always put me off.

... while i get all my dlc issues.
Story-wise, correct. But actually there's already Issues 12 and 13 too   (12 is mostly endgame stuff with Nightmare tiered raid and dungeon - there's a preview post in the TSW section. 13 was said a pvp-oriented update, but then Shambala arrived as free to everyone, so 13 is just a couple extra missions, which aren't move the story forward really after the closure in Issue 11)

The tutorial and the early gameplay was revamped a year ago, but the combat mechanics are the same and unchanged.
