Add to the new-and-improved "you just don't understand game development" lexicon...

"assets" will hereby be known as "features".

They're going to have this business so convoluted by precedent, some great portion of the redditsphere is going to argue mocap as "gameplay" soon, I'm sure of it.

Best quote from the internet so far today...

"I'm starting to feel like SC is really an avant-garde art project attempting to destroy the meaning of language around software development. After ~3 years I think the terms 'open development', 'pipeline', 'design', 'refactoring' and maybe a dozen other words have been so conceptually obliterated that future software teams will be reduced to grunting and rude gestures to describe their process."

    Exactly correct.

    Clarification:

When the OP mentions "New Backer rewards in Hangar!" he means the "My Hangar" section on your personal account page. Things you have unlocked as backer rewards are listed here. The "news" is that the list just got longer for most people.

The OP does NOT mean the hangar in Star Citizen, where your ship is parked. The items listed at present do not yet appear in THAT hangar.

    Have fun

    PS:

Personally i am interested if the BB-12 Manned Maneuver Unit looks like this (the Shuttle MMU or its modern, stripped down version, the SAFER)

I think that is a given since 80% of what they sell does not exist in the alpha test yet.

But... to quote glorious leader, "The first 80% takes 20% of the time and the last 20% takes 80%..."

Does this mean we should see a SC mmorpg in about... 15 years? I really don't know much about game development, but I understand we'll have humans on Mars by then.

...and some people say the game development is not progressing:

    Have faith!

I find the idea that increasing the size of a list in a player's account equates to development progression to be rather dubious, honestly.

Unless you mean "development of getting players' accounts up to date" or something, I suppose.

(er, or unless your post was entirely sarcastic, in which case, if it was, I gotta say that's pretty hilarious.  It's just hard to tell sarcasm in regards to Star Citizen cause some proponents of it are actually serious about the zaniest things...)

I find it funny that you are putting EQN in the same boat as SC.

    EQN is offering free dreams...

You are exactly the player which SC needs.

It's nothing wrong to improve revenue on a REAL product. It is very wrong to improve revenue on something which ... might come to light .. someday.

Also, advertising on google, instead on real game websites , is clear that their are aiming for people who does not actually knows the whole story of SC , or "new" people to the gender.

Because they have enough revenue for making a game they promised to many, many other people, far, far more than originally was anticipated for the need in development. It's dirty, very dirty.

edit: Also, it means they're using "development funds" for further advertising. Rotten.

I think it is called diversifying the potential customer base (or some such... My marketing speech is getting rusty these days) because to be fair the amount of people you reach with a single google ad pretty much wipes out how many you reach if you advertise on ALL the gaming sites... Not to mention that most gaming sites have run SC stories from day one... So that is kind of redundant. It would in essence be to toss money on the grill. Google ads are fairly cheap for the reach they have.

This have been a good conversation

CIG is using developer funds also to create more concept videos. The game doesn't look like this. There are not spaceships flying around in planets' atmospheres chasing each other through canyons.

    https://www.facebook.com/215475438505750/videos/983573301695956/

They should use the money, which is more than they said they needed, to make what they said they were going to make, not to make more misleading commercials.

Don't compare google ads with gaming sites ads, when we speak about a game.

You reach many more people with google ads, I know that, but the conversion it's very low in comparation with ads on gaming websites.

That's why I said that they are aiming for "new" , "noobs" , etc type of (potential) players, because those are much more easier to make them purchase their "product" .

I am not against this whole ads think if they would have had a real product, but they don't have a product. Plus, money spend on that ads, are actually money from the players, which they already funded the "product" long time ago.

I would reply to the random fanboys and give them X reasons as to why this whole SC story is smelling dirty, but it wouldn't change anything.

This is the most important part. Crowdfunding for your dream is one thing. Advertising a product on google which is not a product is a garbage act of desperation.

Yeah but it is not like they are a unkown on gaming sites. Low conversion rates and all it makes muhcmore sense to do google ads.

You are correct in that it is about new customers... That is kind of why you market.

Market what, tawess? What are they marketing? Say it.

Don't say "game". There is not yet "a game". What are they marketing?
