I've been playing since launch and still don't have a legendary. Not that interested in jumping through the hoops necessary to obtain one either. From what I hear getting the precursor and crafting your legendary has been made easier with HoT so that should please people who care about such things.
I haven't crafted one yet but it looks like it would cost me 1/3 of what it used to, if you farm and craft many of the required materials yourself. Even the other mats are not as bad anymore since many of the T6 stuff has been dropping in price (for now).
I did make a juggernaut once. It took 3 years and in the end I traded $50 in gems for gold to finish it off. By the time I had finished it HoT was about to come out, I was sick of my build and I sorta hated the damn thing for sucking up my resources for the past 3 years. So I sold it. Best move Ive ever made since it funded much ascended crafting and probably my next legendary which will cost far less :P
That is what i don't like about mmorpg grinds,they lure you into coming back to grind out some epic weapon then for what?After all that work i bet you likely feel excited for about a week,then there is nothing left to grind for so the game ends up boring.Well that is until they notice people have their epic loot,then they add another one to keep you coming back.
I feel Epic loot should be in form of drops ,yes i like crafting,but this is not about crafting it is about the hook and lure of grinding out longevity for one item.
I honestly don't know how to fix the whole idea of crafting and BEST loot,i feel we should just get rid of BEST loot completely.IMO there should never be a best item/loot ,your wares should vary depending on what you are fighting,there should be more interaction in combat with lots of skill choices to make it fun and challenging.
Circle strafing or running backwards while firing some automatic machine gun bow is not good gaming.Same thing for any weapon,your sword should not be the skill YOUR SKILL should be the skill in combat.Mobs/Bosses should give subtle tells that you need to react to and that doesn't need manual aiming either,it can all be done with tab combat.There should be player to player combos that are needed to take down bosses and those combos are NOT fixed,they should vary depending on mob tells.
This is what is missing from combat in our mmorpg's not epic loot.BTW a rolling somersault does NOT fix/help the idea of good combat what so ever.

The problem is not the grind, the problem is that after you have grind for a particular drop for a while the game punishes you by slowing the amount of drops you get, to the point that you would not get any drops until 24 hours later that SUCKS!!!!!

Also, now a new player can buy the expansion + old original game in one for $50. So we got screwed for backing them early, I quit long ago because of the bad loot/rewards in the game amongst other things, now I was thinking about giving it another go, but $50 again? come on.......
If there is some cheap way that you current players know of to get me back in with the expansion, please PM me.

I enjoy being able to earn them or craft them as I prefer. I had the dubious joy of making 3 legendaries the old fashioned way, and actually making them by farming the materials. I did always buy my pre since luck hates me but I never had an issue getting the gold by playing the game with friends, so I never understood the people who cried that playing the game became work. It was always something that we did as a side goal as we were doing other things, not the sole reason we were online together. THAT would just be boring. Now I can't wait to have my Nevermore and my Astralaria eventually, that I will undoubtedly get while playing the game that I enjoy. No grind, just enjoyment. And some mindful chopping down of trees while I'm at it.
I've been trying to craft Zap since HoT launch. I constantly run out of Iron, so I'm constantly unable to craft Deldrimor ingots, so it's really a tedious process. In addition, one has to do a bunch of WvW (I don't really mind that) and PvP matches (thank the maker for daily maps) for the mats. Plus, there's the Mastery involved, and unless you've been VERY busy, you're just not going to have all the MP you need to advance the Legendary track. I've never made a lot of gold playing, so it's all precious enough to me that I tend not to spend what I have. Basically, it'll be a cold day in hell before I finally finish the damn thing.
Funny - I thought it'd be a lot easier to get this done when I first heard about it, but I was terribly wrong. I just don't play enough per day to get it done in a timely fashion.
Isn't crafting in this game more like buying items, only you need to have enough points on your preferred client card to buy the item in question and the currency is just a bunch of random stuff?
I am just not interested in legendary items. In fact, I don't even think about them. Hell, I am not even all that interested in ascended. Making us craft 1 item per day for a part that goes to make an ascended, is imho, PATHETIC. Especially when that part is account bound, so it is not like we are going to make tons of them and sell them for profit.
I just wanted to play GW2, I did not want to grind anymore. I had my toons where I wanted them and enjoyed just playing the game. I passed on HoT for this reason and have no interest in going back. Tired of chasing carrots.
Ok first off I have been in the game for 3 years and only know 1 person that got a pre drop. I know people get them but I think most buy them and Anet knows that, and this is where we have to see the real intentions behind the Pre crafting.... it's called profit! To craft a pre it take more gold then to just out right buy it oh but wait it's a new and improved pre! Anet knows that there are peeps that just have to have these weapons and they are willing to do all that is need to get it, so this is where the profit comes in! Peeps need lots of gold to do this and Anet knows that most will not do all the grinding to get them so they will need gold and the know a large % of these peeps will not grind to make gold so they will buy gems!! Aah there the hook!!!!! 3K, 4K gold, and more will be spent which is a few 100 dollars that they know a % of peep will spend just to get the gems they need for they gold need to buy these items. Yeah sure there is a % of peeps that will farm that gold but there are more that will spend the $ to buy the gold and Anet knows that!

Seriously... I can not even comment intelligibly on it at this point. That's how overdue it is from the time Linsey Murdoch first teased us with it ....and no I don't blame her, I know EXACTLY who's to blame and that's a much more important thing all of you should know. ...The guy responsible for it was the SAME GUY who just killed FireFall. That's the true depths of what a total BS decision it was for them NOT to prioritize this feature in the first year that they recognized it as a problem. That is just how dangerous the people are who can't see these things a mile away. They can and DO put whole studios of more brilliant enthusiastic artists and builders out of work and out on the streets.
His Legacy will make Bill Roper's and Mark Kern's look SPECTACULAR by comparison

Nah. It's just another grind just like the previous legendaries, hell it's even WORSE since a lot of what you need can be timegated.

It made it even worse that you were funneled to simply buy the beat gear with cash, or mindlessly grind, or play the auction house.
I'd rather have dungeon drops from certain bosses to earn something legendary, not buy it off an auction house with real money. Yuck.
