Developers are banning players to hide discontent

I'm going to have to agree here.

Are players being banned for "voicing dissent" or being banned for HOW they voice their dissent. 

My money is on the latter as, like you, I have yet to see one of these threads show that the person expressed themselves in any way other than rude, petulant, insulting and demanding.

I knew that was why you were banned because you said above. Very few games allow you to talk about infractions because you can say whatever you want and they cannot do anything about it without appearing unprofessional or bringing up privacy concerns. Also, you brought up the claim of being unfairly banned without anything to back it up but a vague statement (I am willing at accept you were banned :P) I could claim I'm a 30 foot dragon but you not being able to prove that that isn't true doesn't make it true by default.

I showed the last post I got as an infraction.  Posts showing dissent weren't banned...the person doing it was.  For reasons they make up as they go.  All I can say is read what I posted on the forums.  Look at the threads I started.

I would do it soon though as I assume they will delete all trace of me soon.  Especially if people start questioning.

It can also be that you were being to effective in your dissent.  An articulate and effective dissenting community member is probably one of the worst case scenarios for any developer attempting to gain positive karma and support for a game still in alpha stage readying for release in a few months.

See this I can agree on.  It was a foolish decision to go live in July.  You should be able to disagree, or what is the point of the forum? 

Hell, I even tried to help them by starting threads on both towns and the map to bring attention that they need work.  Telling them I love them and want to  give them a hug is a disservice in my opinion.

It's in the op, this is my official infraction I got before the overall ban, now it's not my first infraction but it is the quality and what they infract me on.  Before you say I should have dealt with the customer service, I did and found out that the person I was having problems with was the person I was dealing with on customer service.

My guess, and granted I don't know you but it's my guess, is that if we were to look over your post history, your actual posts, we would fully understand why you were banned.

I'm an ex-supporter. Sold my Knight pledge back in December. Smartest thing I did was to walk away from that abomination of a game.

The best thing about SotA is the uninstaller. I highly recommend it.

A, I thought that was an addition of another moderator talking about you but ...

B, I suspect that your ban wasn't for that specific post as it in and of itself is not heinous (though you are essentially calling out someone else) but for the entirely of your post history. It's my guess that they just got tired of you and that was the straw that broke the camel's back, so to speak.

Guys, I have over 4500 posts on that forum with over 8500 likes, that means for every post I have about on average 2 likes....does that sound like someone who only posts things to cause problems and not add anything?  Is there that many people who like that there?

Oh I'm sure they got tired of me.  That's not the question, but I think they got tired of me because I felt they should be held accountable for decisions they made that changed the game.  Getting tired of someone is not a reason to ban, unless you are a child.

That type of infraction is the norm for what I got....warning people to be careful talking about money invested also got infractions.

Now, this isn't the norm on there.  I got much worse then that said to me on daily basis...the reason I posted that line was because another poster(a high backer) stated that this other person didn't ever complain so his comlaints should be immediately addressed..(and another high backer) I just posted that it was not the first time he made that same thread to bring clarity to the issue.  Problem being I may have upset a couple of high backers in the process and here we are.

I totally get what you are saying though that a lot of time people complain about banning when they totally deserve it.  Does someone deserve be banned because they do not agree though?

I'm not even sure how you prove something like this other then to say hey man, this happened to me.

Well, no it doesn't work that way.

I'm not going to say they are saints but let's look at it a bit more logically.

If you are getting bans constantly, eventually they are going to think that you are a poisonous person. Again, we only have this one post of yours which again, isn't heinous but you are essentially throwing a negative at another person. It's really more a warning post.

BUT, I really think if I were to go over your post history I would find enough posts where you would probably be considered acerbic and not a good member of the community.

And "again", this is not to say they are saints, but let's say they were as professional as professional can be, no forum, NO forum, is going to tolerate a person who is constantly being warned and banned. It's just not done.

Now you might have had legitimate gripes but I think it's the flavor of your post history that got you this final ban.

Well, you can search my stuff on the official forums(until they make it disappear)  that's all I can say.  Look at the threads I have made.  I was literally attacked by their high level backers.  I was pretty much one of the only ones holding them to their promise on storyline and quests etc. 


The problem with constantly warning and bannings is when they don't follow logic.  They should honestly be infractions otherwise it looks and smells fishy.  All I can do is say what happened to me there, you can chose to believe me or not.  Like I said I got an awful lot of likes for someone who didn't post good things or added a lot to the conversation.  (Likes are when some agrees with what you say).  I got twice as much likes to posts.


I think I would have been able to post a lot worse then that if I had backed to a higher level.  I sold off most of my account last year, and that was part of the camel back breaking I think.

I also think they tied me to another forum thinking I was posting there in order to do this.

Seeing the infractions I got I tried to deal with customer service to find out why I was getting those when other posts were clearly worse, they told me they would look into it and never responded to me on the issue again, even after I sent a couple of reminder emails.  I was trying to see what there was to be done to fix the issues, they did not communicate with me.  This is why I sold off most of my account.


I'm not the only one these guys have done this too, and you can see what high level backing does as well as the current state of the game.  They dragged my name through the mud and I'm obviously not happy with them at the moment, hence why I posted this info out onto the web.  I'm of the mind if you play dirty your laundry should be exposed.

Shards Online will steal Shroud of the Avatars thunder. Ex Uo development team takes on their old boss and have in my opinion come up with the better game, even in their pre alpha stage.

Same with me, I got banned for saying that, the game looks bad. I didn't troll or anything. Just one comment... And the famous Chris, banned me a week after I posted my comment. There is a big problem with those devs...

Just the way things are now accept it and move on. I would attempt to get my money back by going thru your bank. Also would check the BBB site to see if anyone else has complained about them.

Heck we all get banned at some point. Hell am banned over at Official ESO forums their FB and Reddit page. But the good thing about that ban is they started to take more notice of players complaints. They haven't keep it up but then again I didn't expect they would. Personally to me they are the worse developer team I have ever dealt with or seen. But damn the game is good but will never be great yet I still sub to it hoping it will.

The days of pointing out bug problems with games and directions devs are taking is over. They only want to see good happy posts and make others believe they are making the best game over. The industry is going down hill fast and nothing the gamer can do but use their wallet to get back at them.

The dispute here is with the company, and bringing that dispute to the MMORPG.com forums is only going to invite scorn from people...Scorn for the company, the original poster, and randomly anyone involved on either side of the debate as people argue over whether it was "just" or "unjust".

OP, you should take up your dispute with the makers of Shroud of the Avatar, there are likely official avenues to dispute this if you truly feel you have been banned unjustly.
