These happen to be my first 3 MMOs. Haven't had a home since.
I am in accordance, other than Vanguard,to me everything has been copy paste from EQ2/Wow. I know and i am sure everyone else realizes this site usually feeds BS lol.Like every single game they are working on advertising money from is doing the genre DIFFERENT,that is simply not true at all.
Linear questing is linear questing,i don't care how you TRY to twist that as being different ,it is NOT.Then when EVERY single game is giving xp for linear questing, they become 101% eq2/Wow clones and that is 99% of the genre right now.
IMO FFXI is the ONLY game that really stood out as being different, sub classes,Renkai ,chain bonuses, elemental resistances many other reasons.FFXI is the ONLY game i have ever played where the class does not feel locked out by math.Other games your class is simply NOT going to win if the simple math says your not,but in FFXI with various sub classes and many class tools you can solo stuff never meant to solo and no other game can do that.

Really can't believe Everquest isn't on your list. It was the foundation that all others built and expanded on.
Well ALMOST true,we actually go way back to DnD as well a few other influential games/ideas. However since DSL and mmo's became mainstream EQ does hold the torch except not over FFXI because FFXI is based almost entirely from FF3 a very old console game 9 years prior to EQ.
I pay attention very close to the genre at least since about the mid 90's and the ONLY influences i seem to find that Square took was crafting and a few ideas from Dragon Quest.DQ started in 1986 "hard to believe"that is 30 ,yes count them THIRTY years ago lol.
However as i said MOST of the core foundations come from DnD,but as i said FFXI took those ideas in a big time different direction and improved on them including taking simple die rolls and turning them into complex formulas.

1. EQ - It was my first MMORPG 2. Eve Online - Introduced me to sandbox and PVP 3. Darkfall Online - sandbox ..ish, very epic pvp. 4. SWG - I came in late on the emu's and wish it had a dedicated server again - pre everything of course. On of my most memorable because it is what I want in a game. I just can't play on those terrible servers.
1. EVE Online: Played that one for 10 years, if I ever forget about a decade of my life I should get tested for Alzheimer's I guess. 2. WoW: I used to run a guild which landed among world's top 10 regarding raiding and all. Guess it was memorable. 3. SWG: Made a lot of friends whom still playing with and some of them are my partners in various projects, kinda hard to forget them! 4. UO: For obvious reasons.

Good list, really hard to pick a top 3, although SWG would have to be in there and UO which got me started in the genre.
Anyone notice that none of the newer games are being mentioned.
Robert Lashley: ( I then was killed by a rabbit. I spent a lot of my time doing /sea and looking for members to create leveling parties with. We would then sit there in place and spend more time chatting that killing..When you said that, you got me back to those time ,really memories!
My 3 have to be: my first :1.EQ.. 2.Final Fantasy XI..and 3. D&D online
Everquest Darkfall WoW (Dispite i disliked the way it took the genre i did play it for awhile and still remember things not nearly as much as the other two games though)
I have to say the only memorable one for me was UO, the opening song still tugs at me. Honorable mentions go to LoTRO and pre-BC WOW.
I have played and still play many others, but really, those are the only ones I have truly fond memories of, though to be honest I never did do EQ due to the view and I avoid all sci-fi or modern day type games largely because I just don't like their worlds.
I dislike first person view games which does limit me so for now I'm just cooling my heels in AA but am bored silly.
Without a love for pvp there's really not much to do in most of the current crop of games, I might as well be back in UO trying to run through the Fel gate with a load of ore.
