A smiling face...

When games give out free trials, they should look into hiring someone to hang around and welcome people, answer questions, point things out. Maybe they could use veteran players - give them a free day if they volunteer.

I've been jumping around trying different trials lately and nothing is more wierd than starting in newb town and there is no one around but NPCs.

This isn't a problem during initial launch, because everyone is new and there are usually tons of people running around trying to get started just like you are. But after a year or so, when all those new people stay in high end areas hardly ever to be seen, newb town becomes a ghost town.

Instead of having a newb town, perhaps have people start out where everyone hangs out. I'm thinking in SWG have newbies start out right next to a popular cantina entrance.

This is especially important in a game like Saga of Ryzom. It was such a beautiful world but it was me and maybe 2 other people.

There are usually newb chat channels that can be helpful, but when you are logging in to a game to be a part of a massive multiplayer world it can be a turnoff to walk around like the last person on earth.

I think this is a big reason why people say get in a guild - but unless you are coming with friends from another game, you usually aren't going to jump into a guild right away.

Maybe it is just me, and this is probably not economically feasible. Its just a thought.

There's non-financial ways to compensate people...like free gametime. When you're in a level based game, it's hard starting at a noob town, when it comes to finding other people. When it comes to a skill based game, it's a bit easier, you just need to ask where people go ;)

I agree with you , thats why i dont usually like trying an mmorpg after its been out for more than a year or two unless its really popular , cause usually the newb areas are so desolate and empty you dont even feal like playing or even bothering to try to get high-end to catch up with 80% of the community.
