There is no endgame,  if you want to GvG, you can.  If you want to do  PvE, you can.  If you want to start a trade empire, or be a fisherman, or hunt whales, or breed horses... You can.  In the end, everything is just a means of making silver.

The open world PvP is non consensual, but the non consensual bit is extremely punishing to the agressive party; and completely harmless to the victim.  It's few and far between to see players doing it... Most players will utilize guilds wars for their open world PvP fix.
Not true, the PVE player will lose xp if they are killed. The PVP player loses Karma, if they kill the PVE player, but little else.
While its probably true that a lot of players will get involved in the GvG thing, its untrue to say that a significant proportion won't also prey on anyone they can find, PVE players included.

I don't think it is in so far as I don't think it was designed with a clear PvP design brief from the outset.  messing with Karma systems to try and make open world palatable at this late stage is evidence of this. I don't think it quite knows exactly what it wants to be.

There is plenty of end game PvE, of which the most interesting thing I'm looking for is Whale Hunting :D
Whale Hunting that's easy you'll find them in the cash shop of course

Personally I will PvP during the bi-weekly node wars, when a guildie needs help fending off gankers or when I'm getting ganked. No more than that. There's PvP in this game, but whether it's the game's focus is up to you.

@MightyUnclean , you will find a niche in this game, but it will take time.  There is an abundance of content to keep you immersed and help level and such, and that doesn't end at 50.  There are plenty of PVE objectives in the game (daily quests, crafting, gathering, mount taming and breeding, trading between towns, fishing, the list goes on and on).  I have been above 50 for a little bit now and I can honestly say, I have yet to run out of things to do.  So my answer to you would be no, this is not just a PVP endgame, its a PVX type endgame.
Crafting,Dailies is that actually FUN gaming?

Trading, your already doing that from day 1,no way can that be anything but boring by time you hit 50.

Mount/Breeding that is ok content but shouldn't last long each day,i definitely could not login every day just for that.
Dailies i actually never like that reasoning in gaming,it is not a role play aspect.Crafting since your at 50 does crafting actually serve any purpose?I know the game is suppose to be endless cap but i can't see any of the game designed around ideas post 50.

For me at least, the longevity in games was only influenced around your player and also imo a game NEEDS to have sub classes because it gives your player a versatile  choice in how you play your player and gives advancement and longevity some meaning.MOST or many already have a mount/pet you hit 50 i dont see a lot of use of any of the systems anymore, why even bother to get currency, not like there is an abundance of housing to buy up.

So from what I'm reading here, you lose experience if killed in PvP?  Does that mean you can de-level or just slows you leveling process?   Never liked the ability to de-level in any game.

Secondly, are there other penalties for a PvP death?  In ArcheAge, trade runs across risky areas could put you at risk of losing everything.  Heck, every bridge blockades and such could really impact a play session (or just having my darned internet crash--poof there goes everything).   What else can you lose if you meet an untimely death at the hands of another player?  The experience I could live with (to a degree).  Losing all my stuff during a trade run is a bit more frustrating for me.   The consent/nonconsent system sounds fair and a deterrent for outright ganking.

I'm sort of sitting on the fence with this one.  One of my MMO friends does have a buddy key which they will send me to try it out.  I'm still enthralled with ESO although things are getting a tad bit stale for me right now until Thieves Guild hits.   I'm a player that does like many non PvP things---fishing, exploring, trade, crafting, etc so what I'm reading sounds kind of nice.   As much as I like ESO, it doesn't have enough of the sandboxy things for me to do.   I've been resisting jumping into another game.  I did enjoy ArcheAge quite a bit but some things got really old for me like the labor system, feeling tied to my plot (hated seeing my livestock starve if I wasn't on every day feeding them), playing rent on time, etc.  I felt like I could never take a break from that game.  Not sure if BDO will be my cup of tea.  Suppose with the minimal investment of the game, it wouldn't hurt to try it out.

You do not de-level like L2. I can only verify this one

What's the combat system like? To me, along with actual content - combat is the most important thing. Doesnt matter how great everything else is, if the PVP isn't remotely fun, I'd rather play something else.
What's everyones opinions on the combat?

Kinda Vindictus action combat where you can dodge and block attacks.

Incorrect.  First off players do not lose experience in PvP, only PvE. Second, if your in negative karma and you die, you have a high chance of breaking crystals, gear, and losing enchants off gear. You can even lose an item as your corpse will be lootable. In every other version of the game released so far(Korea, Japan, Russia), random PvP ganking is rare because the karma system is extremely punishing.

No, you don't lose experience in PvP deaths. Only PvE deaths make you lose experience.

You our lose absolutely nothing in PvP deaths -unless- you have negative karma.  You get negative karma by attacking and killing players who have positive karma. When you die with negative karma, you have a very high chance of breaking crystals and losing enchant levels off your items, you also have a chance of completely losing a single item that will become loot-able from your corpse.  At high levels of negative karma, you have the chance for gear to be destroyed entirely. You also will randomly respawn In the region as opposed to spawning at the nearest node.

The karma system is extremely punishing and random non consensual world PvP is quite rare in every released version of the game as a result.  If you want to PvP, you generally utilize GvG mechanics

Not heavily at all. got myself many times to minus 500k karma, takes about 4-5 hours of farming mobs to get back to positive karma.

Is this not a PvP game? When you get to level 45 you are PvPing if you want to or not? Some people were posting that GvG is not optional as well. Not sure how true that is.

I think on a weight factor from what Jean-Luc has said it seems like its more of a pve game then a pvp game

If you are forcing people end game to PvP, its not a PvE game. May have some great PvE but to be considered to be a PvE game, you would need to give people the option to opt out of PvP. All roads in this game lead to one thing... PvP. Its not a bad thing but own what you are. Its the market they are shooting for.
  • cheyanecheyane Member LegendaryPosts: 9,404
Any time you reach a point in the game where PvP is forced on you then it's a PvP game from that point because it will then dictate every decision you make from that point on.

but from my understanding the penality for doing PvP is extreeme and most likely not worth it.

as I said, and I will say again, there is a LOT to not like about this game there is not reason to try to bend space and time to make that point

no..not true and to be frank sounds like something random you just made up.

what if it takes you 10 years to get to end game? opps there goes your definition into the crapper

But you ding 45 and your forced flagged PvP. There will always be hard core PvPers who dont care about the penalty. So once you are 45, at any time you can be forced to PvP, want to or not.

so in your mind if 10 years of a game is pve but after 10 years is pvp then its a pvp game to you.

well you go rock that but I think that is terrible defition
