So I was running around Heidel at level 20 doing some quests to get the last few contribution points I needed to link it to Velia and Olivia so I could sell my potato crates there at better prices. I was getting ready to start helping a fisherman (or rather fisher otterman kinda critter) by the river near there when I noticed someone's unattended horse (or so I thought) being attacked by some aggressive goblins.
Having just had my own trusty steed killed on the road by other goblins while I finished a boss quest half an hour before, I thought "what the hell. I'll see if I can wipe the goblins and help till the guy gets back." So I did that... and then I noticed that the horse itself didn't calm down and kept running away from me too and ran right into a partially fenced-in cow pasture... "damn, that's a wild horse" I said to myself. Hard to actually tell these early access days since most people lucky enough to have gotten their pre-order horses are still riding bare-back and they all look like wild horses when unattended except for their tether.
Well the BDO gods were smiling down on me since it just so happened that just prior to that quest I had finished the one in Heidel that has you make a couple of sugar lumps for some contribution rewards + a taming rope... I had just the one rope with me and coincidentally no mount since I was still a bit gun-shy after the recent first death my noble steed, Ghost.
"Ok. Here goes nothing I thought." Well those RNG gods just kept right on smiling because the wild horse had gotten itself inside the cow pen and as I approached it it sort of backed itself up against a corner allowing me to get much closer to it than I would have otherwise.
First lasso attempt... succes! I was happy about that but figured I would probably bork the mini-game based on my previous frustrating experience with fishing (auto-fishing FTW!) I approached a bit more and then the horse reared up and the "spam spacebar" mini game started... son of a gun, success again! That allowed me to approach close enough to give it the sugar lump I had crafted in the previous quest... still doesn't guarantee success but I was starting to get hopeful. The moment of truth... I pressed the "R" mount key just as gently as I could and, damn, success again... must have been all the positive karma I generated when I thought I was just helping out some random guy's mount.
So I rode my beautiful (to me anyway) light brown with blonde mane horse to the nearest stable in Heidel and started the registration process. The way this work, you know neither the tier nor sex (many, many more stallions than mares in the wild) of your horse until you register. I figured I had probably used up all my luck for the month just getting the damn thing there... but no, those gods were still smiling and I''ll be damned if she didn't turn out to be a tier 2 mare!!!
So just like that, out of the blue, I now have a T3 preorder-bonus stallion and my tamed mare. Now I'll just have to ride and train both for a while (the chances of a better-than-their-parents higher tier offspring improve if you breed them after they're level 10 or, better yet, level 20) then put them in a breeding stable for a couple of hours and let them do their thing.
It's the start of my Behind the Bit Stables empire!

I just travel the world, talk to people(NPC's) in search of snipsets of knowledge and story. I am allready level 24 witouth a single moment of grinding, but the world has become a living breathing place to me.. I know NPC, and they know me and i know their stories..
In Heidel, a little boy spoke up to me, he wanted to become a sculpter, and he urged me to go and look at a huge sculpture by a famous easterling in the center of Heidel.. Story moved on from there.
There is also fun things in the game, i found a little girl hiding in a hollow tree, and she wanted me to go and catch "Roadrunner" Now figure out how to catch the beast yourself.. For some time i felt like a coyote
Next to the great story, ther is more then enough non combat gameplay to keep people in our guild social and talking and helping eachother..
By the way, there are also people grinding their way to max level, and fun thigns, its exactly those people the hardcore archievists that dont understand the game, and still go for magic level numbers all the way..
I am level 24 now, and i havent "grinded" a single moment, i just live the game as someone would in a real world.. figuring things out, exploring and helping out people... and along the way, i kill enough mobs to make some progression...
I think this game looked at the good old EQ, and started from there instead of taking WoW as a starting point, and it really shows and gives people a somewhat fresh experience.
