Thanks again for more recommendations and keeping the conversation going.

@blueturtle13 you have a good point about the story heavyness. I admit I don't love that aspect but I also accept that a game dev/publisher is not out there to make me happy but to attempt to make a game that will suit lots of folks and in many cases, a worldwide player base which is a large net to cast in a pretty saturated market which led to me ask the questions in the first place. I never expected to find the perfect game and to be fair, I'm in the trial version. Far as I'm concerned it could still go south and I'll be on to trying the next one. I do thank you for your recommendations.

I'd suggest a game called Perfect World.  It has fantasy like graphics, it was made in 07 so it is a little dated.  I know a couple of people that were married together and played PWI, then got married in game.  I enjoyed it till, they released r9.  Basically overpowered gear that can only be bought or farmed but would take many years to farm for it.  It has a Cleric and some other classes that I like to play with.  To be honest if It wasn't for R9 being so OP id still play it.  But no way am I going to throw down $750 for a full set of r9.  Aside my rant lol, ill tell you the classes and customization I really enjoyed.  Take a look at it if you'd like.    P.S. I played it for 6 years.   to this date I play every once in a while.

I think FFXIV was a good choice but without looking at very end game,FFXI was an even better choice.
Simple reason is a duo couple in FFXI can rock, the game is very user friendly now,you could easily have a fun time for a full year and just drop the game knowing it was worth it.

Furthermore ,,FFXI would be that one game were you actually discover a different type of game design, instead of only living life having known Wow clones.

I no longer play FFXI nor FFXIV but imo both good choices.

sadly i don't see a lot on the horizon, hopefully Pantheon ,hopefully COE,everything else can get the heck off my boat :P

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I wouldn't game together unless she's a wife, otherwise she'll end up being an ex.

Lots of good suggestions - IMO - pretty much ANY mmo will work for a duo if you both like the game.

Not true at all. My wife have played many a MMO together and some dont take into account playing teamed for everything. Some MMOs trying to quest together to level has been an utter pain. ESO was one that drove us nuts (We may revisit as some say its been fixed somewhat). Best game my wife and I have played teamed thats not 10 years old is SWToR. In settings you can click an option under social to be able to take part in each others story. Any part of the quest that there is fighting, you can team together. Its what my wife and I are playing now. Having a blast.

Yep, I mentioned LotRO above which is quite friendly in this matter, you can take your teammates everywhere, and while the game is more solo-friendly now, still every class kept their roles and skills for grouping (team buffs, debuffs), especially if one of them is a healer like OP is planning to. And the FM system is fun - true, in a small fellowship of two people, the combinations are limited - still fun.

TSW is / could be awesome for teaming. Not a good fit for OP, since it's modern day setting instead of fantasy, plus it's kinda twitchy. But the deck building mechanics are great for dedicated teams (or couples playing together), with building not only a simple character but a team as a whole. Unfortunately (it was a frequent topic in the game), it has the flaw Nanfoodle mentions, during the "leveling" the team often gets separated into Solo Instances... Too bad, since for dungeons and endgame it can give an extra layer of theory-crafting, building decks which complete each other and together form a synced, optimal team balance.

(on a sidenote since not fantasy either, CO has a similar setting for character building - if you have Freeform - and don't have TSW's issue of separation, you can do everything in a team, instances are scaled depending the team's size (and all has solo option too), plus if someone rushes ahead with the leveling, there's a sidekick option for synchronize the levels across the team. Good game for couples, too bad everyone's leveling through Alerts nowadays)
