Why do people keep saying BDO is gorgeous?

MaurgrimMaurgrim Member RarePosts: 1,331
Yes the game looks sweet to some degree, up close sure it has nice details and sweet graphics but you cant really say overall graphic is gorgeous due to view distance sucks really bad, you either have it blurred out or if it's not It's very pixilated and poor AA you cant really climb up on a mountain and say damn what a view It's all a blurry far away and no details.
You got flickering shadows and object sometimes popin, there is so many things that really kill the overall graphic experience, as I sead sure up close and you are standing still looking about 20m infront of you it does look sweet, try climb a hill next time and try to enjoy the vista.

Fact is it looks extremely good in screenshots the photo mode is rad and there is even a heavy bokeh DOF effect only for it which can't be used during normal game play so ppl just look at those screenshots and say the game is gorgeous which is true.

Why do you care if others find it gorgeous? It's not like everyone likes the same thing.

Some like scenery and some don't. I was standing on Elders' bridge when the sun was setting. Just awed by it. Not everyone's cup of tea but then...

The focus and AA can be adjusted in the settings menu, the flickering shadows problem is probably with your own PC. I personally have not experienced it.

I missed that. flicker is probably because the person is running Windows 8.1

It might help OP if you gave us your computer specs.

Computer specs AND game option settings are needed.

Many people just dive into a game without looking at any of the settings or config options for the game. Sounds to me like many of the common BDO complaints arise from this approach.

The view distance  in this game is far better than in  any game, online or offline, that I've played. Maybe Vanguard comes close.

Agreed. Clearly there were major tradeoffs and I'm not sure they were worth it.

I agree, it looks good still.  As soon as you move though the game looks like ass due to all the pop in and stupid short draw distance.

Black Desert's visuals blows all other mmos out of the water.

View distance sucks? Can't be serious, unless he really has a crap PC and didn't enable high end mode.

Yes I'm serious, sure you can see far but it aint pretty.
I have evrything on max except high end mode, I didnt notice much of a difference with it enabled only its a fps hog.

Yes up close, objects far off are low rez and pop up if you ride fast or even at some places when you run.
Hell even BDO own trailers shows that.
  • BlurBlehBlurBleh Member UncommonPosts: 162
For blurry distance objects, press ctrl u then ctrl down arrow repeatedly to bring distant objects into focus. But yeah in crowded areas the NPC characters do get rendered rather slowly. Currently only happens to me in Calpheon while riding fast

"This game's view distance sucks! I have everything on MAX except view distance!"

TIP: High End Mode=Improved Distance=View Distance. Use it. Don't come here and complain because you didn't max your view distance in settings.

Some if does - some doesn't

Lots of low res textures on rocks etc... for example TSW with full tesselation blows BD out of the water in textures on roads etc...

ESO's lighting looks way better in outside areas.

Black Deserts character creator blows most out of the water

    etc...

There are areas that other games do better.

    Disagree with everything you said.

ESO has better lighting in outside areas? LMAO

ESO and The Secret World both look like average console games.

    And still,

Black Deset's visuals blows all other mmos out of the water.

I simply don't agree with this at all.

I've watched quite a few videos on this game and scrolled through hundreds of screenshots.  If this game is anything at all, it's great looking.  In fact, I'd say that compared to the vast majority of MMO's out today, it's fantastic looking.

This game's "issues" as far as I'm concerned lie with core game choices, the cash shop, and some of the game mechanics but certainly not in graphics department.

Because it has got some very nice things about it and people have been crying out for something new for us.
However i have not bought it as i dissagree with the pricing structure. They seem to think that the dollar is worth the same as the euro (thats fine as there more or less the same) but to class GBP the same worth is not right when it means a 50% increase in cost to us.
So with that, i am with all the other GBP people and not getting this game as it would be $45 to us and not $30

Well if this game isn't simply stunning to view there is an obvious problem either with the persons musheen or the operator of the musheen. Kinda strange how folks will say the game looks like crap even when viewing highly rendered screenshots on a shitty monitor or with their graphic options not set correctly.
  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662
    All games do that manestream.

I'm from europe so I get your annoyance but sadly it's been like this since forever. Even subscription prices are the same regardless of your currency.

Can't say I'm impressed with the graphics either. But then again I'm only running on medium settings. What I do find is that everything is clustered as f***, both in the UI and in the game world. Too much "stuff" everywhere, can barely make out the mobs in some situations. The extreme darkness of night time doesn't help either and the torch is so bright it's blinding so I don't use it.
