Drama Llama: BDO Bible, Praetorian/Legacy, and BDOFoundry

I'm sure everybody has seen the "BDO Bible" that supposedly got accidentally leaked and everybody is using now. They had already noted that some of the information was pulled from other sources such as BDO Foundry and Incognito guild. However, Reddit today has brought us some new developments!

It all started with Reddit user Ecchii trying to do the community a service and offer the content in new, easier to use formats for those with slower internet, because trying to load such a massive document is hard for some people.

Then comes the drama in the comments!

Praetorian/Legacy GM Freelancer chimed in defensively explaining his guild's usage of a document instead of other formats, with ideas as to putting it on a separate website.

We did not intend to restrict people, we were asked kindly by a major author/website not to provide a download link, to which we obliged.

1.7 is already finished (6 new charts, including our luck/drop rate charts) and a few more guides. I cannot promise we will make it public if we cannot follow the wishes of authors we include in the doc.

As a possible solution, we added a donation link in the doc, as we really would simply like to rent a VPS server and host the guide on a proper website. I don't see any other options at this time, except a few offers of fan-sites hosting it (for their own ad revenue I assume). It sort of takes away from the whole point of it being "one link for all guides" though. We'll see.

Followed up by Sarah, founder of BD Foundry with some very upset accusations:

We asked you not to make it downloadable because over 200 (150**) pages of the 260~ page guide was written by BDFoundry. Yes some of the guide is written by yourselves, but when we gave you permission, we stated that it is only allowed on a restricted website for your members only. It was one of your members who leaked it originally and at the time you said you would "make it up to us" by letting us host 1.6 and future versions. Over two weeks ago, you also said you would place our watermark on the sections which we wrote.

We let it pass and thought "nevermind it's not a big deal" but now you place a donation button and state that you've had a "few offers of fan-sites hosting it (for their own ad revenue I assume)" when you didn't write most of the content? We've been quiet about this far too long and aren't going to sit back and let people steal our content. Please either remove the sections written by us or stick with what you originally promised us. This is me asking nicely.

Then the OP Ecchii pops in again asking Sarah for clarification and providing some supposed background.

Hey, OP here.

Only reason I was okay with copying that and offering a download link to people was because I knew that a large majority of the guide wasn't original content by Freelancer/Legacy/Praetorian guild, so it wasn't theirs to own anyways.

However the claim that 200/260 pages being out of BDFoundry is pretty substantial. If you can provide some sort of proof for myself and the other people here, I'll be more the glad to replace the download links with links to BDFoundry. Because that was a lot of work and you guys do deserve all the traffic and credit which if true was stolen from you when the original "BD Bible" was posted, and mainly because I'm personally against this kind of crap of people ripping others off.

This isn't the first time Praetorian/Formerly Legacy pulled shit like this. I remember during the Korean open Beta they pretty much copied "Loki's English Patch" (Shout out to Loki-Enla btw, completely unrelated) and added a few Google translate lines to it and "gave it to their members but it got leaked so they released it to the public calling it the Legacy Patch".

Geez, how does this sort of stuff even happen! It's just snowballing and it's a bit crazy. But thank you to all involved for the entertainment. And of course for the useful guides.

Was a part of this guild in ArcheAge. Freelancer is a complete ass hole, and a frequent liar. Constantly makes up silly little white lies to make himself look cool. Would not recommend.
