imageHow to Make ESO's Progression Even Better

Leveling up through an MMORPG is probably one of the best experiences. It’s all about improving your character, learning new skills, trying different styles to see which one you like best or which is the most effective. Yet once you hit level cap that journey is finished, you’re no longer advancing your character with the exception of gear. ESO was supposed to change this mentality with the ability to morph skills as you got better.

"So why am I so upset if I got what I wanted? Because when I pictured these morphs I expected them to take time to earn. In ESO you can fully max your skills and earn the morphs well before you come close to level cap."

yes!- but you cant use em all at once- you need to choose wisely or experiment to your play style. and dotn forget the Champion system which take a very long time to learn.

iam ok with it. what i would like to see is a deeper spell crafting & ability systems which could be found throughout the world of ESO exclusively.

say when one finishes killing a world boss it grants you a 'special' ability or when you finish a dungeon you find a special spell book in a chest in IC....things like that exclusively by doing things ingame.

A skill has 4 levels, then it can be morphed to one of 2 "better" skills. What I want is to be able to spend another skill point to learn both morphs, so I can put either one on the hotbar. This "refund 250+ skill points because you want the other morph" is pointless BS. Too many of the morphs are "this one for PvP, that one for PvE" and it's just annoying if you're into both.

I think MMO should give up on PVP balance and do what POE did give people material to build with ...if its amazingly OP nerf a little if it fucked up just try again ...

Limiting class development is very dull and boring and destructive for game also a lot of development time is waste in void ...an clear example is WOW and WITH balance fix every single patch ...

JUST build content class development content skill content
with dozen of random morth not 1 not 2 but 5 10 morth for each skill ....and screw that balance and the end of the day in World pvp most of the time ur ganked by 2 3 4 or struck by cho cho train

Balanced skills that are supposed to fit both gaming aspects likewise will never happen, ever, in any game. That's "Mission: Impossible".

Could just give up on balancing skills to fit different aspects and make separate skill sets for each class - one for the PvE and one for the PvP part - locked for use only within the corresponding aspect. That's "Mission: Possible".

Again, I can't stop thinking about the Alternate Advancement system of EverQuest. At max level you would still level up, just more often. And every time you leveled you recieved 1 point. The points you use to buy different advanced skills of which some changed what your character could do, and some (in small increments) how "strong" your character was. There were a lot of AA skills and down the line they became more and more expensive, but still...you felt your characters advancement 1 point (or 1 mini-level) at the time and therefore it ALWAYS felt like you were improving and changing your toon...even after max level.

I've seen this system copied before, but never in the same way, where it would have the same psychological impact on your experience of moving forward.

I actually prefer MMO's that let you have multiple builds and switch between them as needed as long as you're not in combat. I also liked how the other Elder Scroll games worked. The more you used a skill the better you got at it. XP and crystals to instantly get skills points is so old it's a step backwards.

No, but he starts with a vast amount of skill and knowledge, and will beat you in minutes.

There's a ton of skills to learn. You have class skills, armor skills, weapon skills, guild skills, alliance war skills, various additional world skill lines, and a number of crafting skill lines. Are you seriously telling me you've learned ALL of those? There are 517 skills to spend points on and 348 points you can use, along with 501 champion points to earn to customize your character even further and make them stronger.

That's an insane amount of skill points to use and earn. I find it hard to believe you've earned and used all of those. It takes a long time.

Besides, a system with no progression caps introduces a LOT of problems. If you want that sort of absurd imbalance and focus on hardcore grind that will push away 90% of ESO's fanbase, then you are free to go play Black Desert Online where you can no life it and earn skill points forever and be better than everyone else because you can grind harder and thus are "better".

It would be nice to come up with a personal fun build that's just as effective as the fotw builds.

I enjoyed playing through my factions quests but I really struggled with Cadwell's silver ( but finished it ) but just lost heart to go through Cadwell's gold . I just wish their had been a way to advance through pvp in a timely fashion rather than be forced to do other factions stories . That killed it for me .

I've recently gone back to ESO just cause i'm bored atm and i just don't get where the OP is coming from. I rerolled a DK and just hit 50 and in that time didn't come close to maxing out all the skills i'd like. There are whole skills lines like the Mages and Fighters guild i haven't even touched yet.

I've now just gotten into the Champion Point system which is completely new to me and another nice way to advance my character.

There seems an abundance of ways to keep advancing my character if i really want. Sure i might eventually max it all out but they can always add new skill lines with DLC.

Its still a poorly designed game even if they put out DLCs with storyline every 3 months. Storyline is not what makes an MMO and MMO. Instead of having a virtual world they share with other people, people who play this game are just getting storyline after storyline thrown at them like a single player game.

That's not at all true lol. They add a ton of content with each expansion. The stories are only a small part of it.

You forgot an obvious one, stop selling content patches as DLC.

I have 5 guilds now and Im still soloing. Now I don't know whether its my fault or the game. I know I don't like pugging with strangers but I don't want to be lonely all the time either but heck its hard to find anyone just to do normal questing with, like a buddy up or two or three or to be able rely on in dungeons. Every horrible pug experience always sets me back. Oops I meant to say the relevance to this thread. I think progression would be better if it actually encouraged teaming up with people. Just give and extra 7% xp, loot drop RNG and gold for normal questing with other players and make normal mobs more time consuming so a team goes through them quicker.

More active skill lines and morphs would be fine with me. Though once they eventually get spellcrafting in that will open up even opportunities.

First of all you don't build QUALITY xpacks in 3 months lol. However what i have seen across the board in game discussions is most people have much lower standards than i do.

As to end less progression, you'll never have endless because there is actually almost NO progression in any game. The reason is simple, yes you might be getting a better player but the game nullifies it by creating new content that is also getting better,so it is always a stalemate throughout the game.

The best way imo is the way FFXI did it ,still to this day 13 years later many or most players have never leveled up all the classes 23 of them. You create a sub class system with slow leveling. You need a diverse set of mobs to fight,to match the diversity of skills that a sub class system offers. You also NEED slow leveling because too fast means levels are 100% meaningless and in that case why even bother with levels if your handing them out like candy?

Then what FFXI did after end game levels and players maxed out many classes was add in added stats and a few added skills to further diversify your player. These stats could slightly make your player O/p but after years of grinding levels over many classes, players deserve it.It takes a LONG time to get to that FINAL end game point, unlike other games where players reach the pinnacle within 1-2 months which is a joke.

Same thing could be said about FF14. Only in FF14 they want to try and be a 2004 raiding mmo. ESO is designed better because it lets all styles of play do what they want. That of course offends the mmo-dinosaurs who feel that all games should be designed around them and everyone should play their way.

Or its a good example of two games catering to different crowds. Neither one is invalid just because you dont like one.

I did not enjoy ESO, but that doesnt invalidate it as a product? of course not, I am glad it has its audience, more choice = better choice, I am tired of MMOs that try to be all things to everyone

I mean really does it bother you that much that some people like me really enjoy FFXIV? does it some how invalidate your preference of ESO. Is it too much to accept that different people like different things and that its ok to do so?

Have they added diminishing returns to abilities that allow for knockdown spamming ? Nope. Post 50 upgrades... oh look I can increase my block chance... 1% ! Awesome I'm so powerful now. Whatever at least its free to play.

"I realize we live in a gaming world where if players don’t receive rewards for their time in the game they find the game boring and will move onto something where their instant gratification needs are satisfied."

    - Shouldn't player reward come from gameplay rather than chasing gear, stats, and new skills? I do not believe in the grind, I believe more in purpose driven gameplay with the purpose centered on the content of the game. Forget about chasing stats, leveling, grinding .... just make the game about what your actually doing and why you're doing it.
