Can I be a Auction House trader?

Without the ability to direct trade in this game, is there any way to be someone who plays the Auction house, makes money to pay for gear that way etc.?

Like buy low - sell high?  I don't think so, everything sold on the market has a min-max set price and that is controlled by the games economy.

Not 100% on this but it looks like you need to get into actual trading not stock market trading.

    I.E.

Making or buying local goods and then transporting them via horse or wagon or ship to another location where you can sell the trade goods for a profit.

Exactly,  Their is no money to be made by playing the Auction House game (buy low - sell high in the AH).  But you can make a crap ton of money doing the Trade Market (selling goods from one town to another).

The whole concept of "buy low, sell high" in BDO is somewhat different to other MMO's, because the AH price ranges are regulated by the devs.

So even if you're offering the only item of a particular type, you can't price it higher than the max price for that item as set by the developers.

You also cannot undercut others if they are selling at the lowest specified price for a specific item. The lowest possible price is fixed, no matter if there's 10 or 10000 of those items on offer.

You also can't avoid the regulated prices on the AH by spamming WTS in chat, because most items can't be traded directly between players.

I guess it's possible to try and buy at the lowest set price and then hope you can one day sell at the highest set price, but the profit margins aren't going to be spectacular.

I thought the AH prices were different in each city?

No. Not sure how the tax is in EU/NA, but on the KR side each sale has a 30% tax (less if you play at a PC cafe though), coupled with the system controlled price ranges, making money via market manipulation is simply not feasible.

    The simple answer is no.

Certain items you may be able to hold onto and will potentially go up in value though, but it would take quite a bit of time.
