Why are you grinding quests? You're only supposed to do the ones that relate to what you're doing at the time. Also the quests are pretty funny if you read them (most of them).
Quests give you either A. contribution exp B. skill point exp C. gathering exp D. life skill exp E. level exp (rarely)
You can select not only what kind of quests you want shown on your quest tracker but also what kind of quests you can actually see above the npc's heads and such. If you feel like leveling up your gathering then do some gathering quests etc.
Couldn't agree more there. BDO is something totally different from most other MMOs on the market. I am even very sad that a lot of activities give you level XP (even gathering stuff does also give level XP), while I am specializing in trade and alchemy right now. Of the latter I've just hit Apprentice 10 and I'm #10 on the server (shows how little it's used).
Yes, I do kinda feel a quest grind at times. Going back to Olvia every day to pick up certain daily quests to craft/gather stuff that I use almost on a daily basis might feel like a drag, but hey, you need the stuff anyway, so why not get some XP for it at the same time?
I really do feel bad for the people who want more MMOs that revolve around questing and story, I mean, they've only had every big-budget MMO made in the last 11 years to choose from. Life is rough man.
What alternative there is? Mob grinding?
I've DungeonMastered a few D&D games in my day, it was never about "grinding" it was about the adventure. Figuring things out and being in situations were everyone's skillset gets a chance to shine.
That sort of thing never happens in MMOs anymore. You kill, literally, a million mobs or do a million quests.
I think an MMO that played out a little more like Dark Souls were you spend DAYS trying to work your character (or group) through that one tower over there that has 12 mobs/traps/puzzles in it. Wher eyou "die" a lot and that's normal and it doesn't send yo ubackwards
This if anything indicates the game lacks adequate hand holding for a Western audience...
And that right there is just so frikking nice for a change.
While there are some who love the thrill of discovery, I have to say, in this market, it probably works against BDO for the majority.
Nah, real gamers love it
