I'm interested to see what people think when they reach endgame. There's tons to do in the game and most people don't seem to be rushing to level cap. But they'll get there eventually, and from what I understand the game plays a lot differently (focus on grinding mobs and PVP).

But yeah it certainly is a different approach to an MMO and I think it's paying off right now.  They spent a lot of resources on fleshing out side-systems in the early and middle of the game.

I've read lots of posts on various sites from people having a great time and they're level 25.  I haven't read one yet of someone who's max level saying the same thing.

Not saying people won't have fun at max level, just curious how it's all going to play out.

Yea, like I said before, people can enjoy crafting, they can enjoy PvE, and they can enjoy exploring.  But unless the developer is on the ball with those aspects, eventually the crafters will run out of things to craft that players will actually want, eventually the explorers will finish exploring, and eventually the PvEers will have killed every monster (or at least, every gameplay variant of monster).

And from what I hear of the Korean version, the developers haven't really updated any of the crafting, exploration, or PvE elements significantly.   All indications I've heard of people who've reached level 50 is that there isn't anything left besides PvP, which logically would mean that the crafting isn't in too high demand, the exploration is finished, and all the types of mobs have been killed (which isn't too surprising as it's not like there are any super-difficult raid mobs that would take a while to figure out how to kill.  At least, as far as I know?  I could be wrong).

Again, what I heard could be wrong about that as pessimistic people tend to be more vocal than optimists, but even Daum's "We're doing small updates instead of big updates" statement seems to imply that.

Since it's kinda hard to make significant crafting and exploration updates with small updates, I've seen.  I can't imagine the last MMO that gave small-but-frequent updates to crafting and exploration.  That's more of a PvE kind of thing at best, and I haven't been hearing good things about BDO's PvE for latter versions of the game.

Even if you take things slowly, you're still going to run out of places to explore, things to craft, and monsters to kill eventually if the game doesn't have that much of it in the first place and the developers don't produce any more.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Daum realized that, which is why they went buy-to-play for this version after learning their lessons from prior versions (get people to pay up front so you already have their money once they leave after they're done exploring, crafting, and killing monsters that you aren't going to further update the game with).  That sure as heck is the profit-making lesson I would take away if I were the developer of the game looking at the trends of my prior attempts, assuming reports from the players of other versions are true.

Is it really a sandbox, I see people arguing both ways, I thought it was then I thought it wasnt and the devs of mmo's say anything for a sale. If anyone is willing to gift me a seven day pass i'd appreciate it.

I would like a 7 day pass as well, I never got in the beta and would like to give it a try before I buy!

I am so good, I backstabbed your face!

People just make up shit to make it feel like some special purpose game,it is doing nothing except adds in a LOT of automation, meaning your NOT playing the game and some node marketing with again automated workers. The whole system uses a point system that you have to donate, really just another goofy idea.

It seems developers have completely given up on creativity every single game is using some form of energy or point system ,put a point there, put a point here, there a point here a point everywhere a point point Old McDonald had a farm ee i ee i oh.
Then the best game design of all time, instead of logging out, just go fish bot, automated fishing you don't do a single thing except load a fishing pole and go to sleep and dream your gaming.
No if only we could get that system to work in real life, instead of going to work i just automate it  and stay home and watch movies press T press Space bar press "," press wasdfq  lol doesn't get any better than that makes use of several letters of the alphabet lol.

“We can’t ever provide enough content at the speed our customers consume it”
You see devs throw this out there when they do want to invest in content.

You don't have to. What you should be doing is producing content at a rate where players feel they are getting their moneys worth or in the case of F2P at a rate that gives them a reason to log in once in a while. It all comes down to value. Whether we are talking about time or money, provide players with value for their investment(time/money) and you will keep them. If you fail to do so, you won't.

I'm 26 and still look the same as level 1. I don't feel any rpg in this mmorpg. I'll keep poking at it and see how things go.

Lol yeah this is so true. I say a couple of months from now. It will be fun to come here and see what people think then.

Agreed, there's a lot of fans in this feedback section who haven't reached end game yet. The business model is to turn pvp on and make you pay for cash shop items so you survive.

Honestly I have been done with this kind of game for quite a while. Lately I find myself really wanting to try this game! I don't know what it is about it that's taking my interest.

I was on the store page several times debating on springing for the 30 beans to buy the game. I'm close, but still gonna try and hold out for a 7day pass from someone.

    ****Note****
THANK YOU Urncaller for the pass. I'm downloading the game at this very moment. Nice!

    Your welcome

It's way too early to say it's been well received. Wait a couple months. If Russia and Korea are any indication, this game's population will also be dropping off in the western release. The lack of PVE endgame will end up killing this game for long-term players.
  • tom_goretom_gore Member UncommonPosts: 2,001
There's just so much to do every time I log in sometimes I don't know where to start. That's the best part of the game.

And I have no illusion that the PvP is the end game and that I need to git gud in it. I'm prepared to do it, as I love PvP anyway. I also have no illusion that I won't be contending with the top dogs, but I hope there will be enough people on my level of play that I can have fun.

Again, BDO has no end game to speak of.  The same PvE activities that are available to PvE players at level 1 are available to them at level 50+, plus much more.  That said, rushing to end game to then jump on a +1 dungeon/raid gear treadmill isn't much of an "end game" to begin with.  Yes, the PvE types who can't shake their WoW-clone game play hamster treadmill addiction will leave.  The rest of us, who are glad to be rid of that tiresome and mundane end game mechanic, will stay and be all the more happy without it.

It was never that themeparks were inherently bad. WoW vanilla was great, and I can attest after recently playing WoW Nos it still is one of the best MMO's ever. However WoW stopped being WoW when it released TB, and TB stopped being TB when it released Wotlk and so on. Every few years blizzard would cut a piece out of the heart of their original masterpiece. Their efforts while admirable are ultimately unsustainable. They gave up depth for simplicity. Even though they added continent after continent, the world became smaller and smaller. Being the industry leader these fundamental design failures have rippled outwards to other games as well. I think it is a damn shame that so many games will probably never reach the kind of potential they could have. Good games can last not years or decades but centuries. Chess is still going after 1500 years. Blizzard made something that they could keep people interested in for a very long time, but they have probably already blown it and lack the vision to rectify the mistake as will many others. BDO is a great game. In the next few years the whole continent will be made, and we will likely see more layers added in the form of sandbox features and whatnot. Given the advanced graphics and engine in BDO they certainly are in a position to be ahead of the curve for cement a solid playerbase.

Numerous games have claimed there are no such things as end game and that contents available to players at level 1 are also available at max level. It turns out people consume contents way faster than developers can imagine and more end game contents are still much needed. The no end game excuse is simply a disguise for the treadmill mechanic that you despise but is actually the core of MMORPGs.

    Well received?

    By what the aspergers community?

It's an asian grinding game that's already having a massive population decline.
  • PersistentWorldPersistentWorld Member UncommonPosts: 26

bit early to start praising the game no? from what i understand it's been out for a couple of years in Asia and it got a lot of stuff missing that they got over there.. or am i mistaken?

Lots of stuff is missing, but it's only the expansion content (all extra stuff) that should be arriving very soon.

Honestly, it depends on the mindset of the player. A lack of dungeons and raids doesn't bother me at all as there's plenty to do outside of that. There's also the new content on the way in the next few weeks/months.

Metacritic is hardly worth much, really. Even some of the best games released have done poorly - don't get me started on user reviews :P

There's a reason traditional endgame PVE is popular though.  It can't be dismissed just because you don't like it.

PVE endgame such as dungeons, raids, gear treadmills, etc, keep people around, because despite popular opinion that the majority dislike it, nothing better replaces it.  PvP has limited appeal for endgame, as well as superfluous activities, such as cooking, fishing, etc.

Archeage is a prime example.  Another would be GW2, and if it didn't have dungeons, the majority wouldn't have stuck around.

It has not actually. The playerbase dipped sharply after the first week.

Here are a few reasons players have stopped playing the game:

There is no end-game dungeons for PvE players. The end-game is that of arche-age where it is trade packs and pvp.

The interface was designed for consoles but when they scrapped that idea they didn't bother to fix their UI.

The combat is reminiscent of TERA, which wasn't great to begin with.

Yet another sellout article, but that's what $500 for positive media will get you.

Honestly, it's entirely normal for any MMO to dip after launch - BDO is no exception. BDO is also harder to track users because it's buy to play, not subscription. On that basis, it's more about active accounts made and revenue earned from the shop. As for the UI, I can't say I have a problem with it.

As for "sell out" - is it a problem someone genuinely enjoys a game you don't?

this is the only problem i have really with the game
it seems so solo centric but the fact of the matter is that if you want to be able to stand your own ground in a zone at high level, you WILL need a group due to all of the zone bullies and their guilds. the penalty for getting griefed is worse than the penalty for being a griefer and that's just something I'd like to see changed.

other than that, the game's just fantastic. it can engage me for hours and if i so choose, can leave the game in the background to do some of the more mundane tasks. plenty of stuff to do and i like some of the management aspects. i was hesitant on buying this because opinions were too varied and i felt it was too much of a dark horse to make that initial investment, but i'm glad i did.
